On July 12th 1937 I became a Daughter, Granddaughter, niece and cousin.
I was never a Sister.
As life progressed I became a wife, DiL, SiL aunt by marriage.
Then a MiL, Grandmother, Widow and now I am a GGM
Quite a collection.
Do others think about this and do you have other titles I may have missed or not been “ entitled to”?

As an only child, I’ve never been a sister, niece or cousin - no regrets there. My friends are my extended ‘family’. Doubt I’ll get to be a GGM. I’ve been a bridesmaid a couple of times, if that counts.

Grandma70s Fri 10-Oct-25 17:43:23

I’ve been all of those things, including a sister, except a GGM. I can’t think of any other ‘titles’.

Apart from widow and GGM, I have had all of those titles plus sister, Goddaughter, 2nd cousin, great neice and great aunt. I've also been a girlfriend and a bridesmaid.

I have also been a friend

I was a DD, GD, sister (big and little), niece, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother etc.

Apparently, I was entitled to call myself Staff Nurse although I never did as I never worked as one.

According to the local chip shop and some restaurants, cafes and several shops I can call myself a senior citizen.

Oh I forgot OAP!!
Also ex MiL x2!!

kittylester Fri 10-Oct-25 18:22:20

Oooh, I'm an ex Mil x 3.

TheatreLover Fri 10-Oct-25 18:27:49

All of the above, plus I am a GG aunt, and also a step-GM.

kittylester Fri 10-Oct-25 18:35:59

I'm also a Great great aunt and a step grandmother - coo it's complicated.

Allira Fri 10-Oct-25 18:50:37

Granddaughter, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, wife, mother, great-aunt, great-great-aunt (😲), sister-in-law, step-aunt and step-great-aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother.

So many hats!

Ps how do other posters refer to their DILs' and SILs' parents?
I don't mean face to face, we use their first names, but if mentioning them to others?

Yes, me too.

I have heard The Outlaws as a suggestion!

Allira Fri 10-Oct-25 19:22:47

Well, of course I was a Niece too and a God-daughter and God-mother.

And, as my lovely God-father said - a dear little thing.

Allira Fri 10-Oct-25 19:23:40

And Great-niece

So many titles.

Anyone else been a Concert Mistress? (I am also a lurker or quiet corner reader!)

Llamas99 Fri 10-Oct-25 19:33:27

Sorry, Concert Mistress is not a proper response for this thread!

kittylester Fri 10-Oct-25 19:41:17

We have 2 daughters out law but I ignore that complication.

AGAA4 Fri 10-Oct-25 19:45:58

I have been most of the above except GGM or concert mistress.

Cabbie21 Fri 10-Oct-25 20:04:51

A recent acquaintance said she was looking forward to being Mrs J. When I queried this, she explained that she was looking forward to the time when both she and her husband were retired, to spend time as a couple, not as anyone else’s anything
( mum, daughter etc).

Llamas99 I think that counts as a title 😊 and if not a title, then definitely as status!
