I am so thankful for my friends and family I’m really very blessed ❤️
Anyone else being bitten overnight?
I think we all know that loving kindness given and received makes us happy. And gratitude makes us happier too. There is plenty of research evidence to confirm this – but all we have to do is pay attention to our instinctive knowledge to know it is true.
So I have the idea of a thread where we share examples of true loving kindness, and of gratitude for things in our lives, some of which we might otherwise take for granted.
We could grow a shared positive life thread. This is not to deny that we all have painful times – just to say we can have happier lives if we allow ourselves to pay attention to kindness and gratitude, and this will help us in the hard times too.
On this thread you can tell us about kindnesses done and received, and if you are shy about telling something kind you have done, in this thread its ok to say “someone I know/a relation/a friend…..’ or whatever you like. And of course it is ok to tell us directly of kindnesses you have done yourself. We could use the thread to express gratitude for kindness received too.
We can learn from each other and be uplifted by the loving kindness of others.
Gratitude is about paying attention to the good things in our lives and being grateful. Some people keep a daily gratitude diary and write about three things they are grateful for that day, with a word or two about why they are grateful. This thread might become a shared gratitude diary – if others join in, I would aim to add at least a short post about something I am grateful for every day. And kindnesses too but not necessarily daily. We could be cheered by each other and it could become part of the day for any of us who chose to join. What do you think?
I will start with something I am grateful for today: seeing beautiful tall trees beginning to turn to autumn colours. This took me beyond myself to enjoy and feel connected with nature.
And a kindness which springs to mind: I stopped in the street to rearrange a lot of bags and parcels I was carrying, and then walked on. A minute or two later a passerby caught me up – and gave me my handbag which I had left in the middle of the pavement.
Sending you loving thoughts for whatever difficulties you may have and wishing you good things.

Crosstitchfan...I was amazed at a 6.00 magazine. I am so out of date.
Babs, what wonderful news, I am so thrilled for both.
Its lovely reading all the positive posts about the kindness of strangers a lot of them.
Message withdrawn at poster's request.
Hello Crosstitchfan, I do not know what you wrote in the post you asked to have removed, but this is a thread about gratitude and I want to say thank you for doing something difficult - saying sorry. We are all human and we all make mistakes but we can be afraid of apologising . But I think we all actually respect people who do not 'have to be right' all the time - so thank you. I am sorry you had a bad day and hope today is a better one for you.
Apple Gran, your kind words have really helped. Thank you so much 💐
A lovely thought and thread, and long may it last!
My husband often says he’s so grateful to be alive after a serious heart attack in 2020.
I think taking a positive outlook on life is very empowering, it’s so easy to forget our “blessings” in this dark world
My husband's grandmother was always telling us to count our blessings Cossy and I am only now beginning to understand what she meant by it. Today, I am grateful that my granddaughter is recovering well from her op and is back to her happy self.

Was this meant for me? I’m sorry, but I have no idea what you mean.

That is brilliant news! I expect you aged by about 10 years while all that was going on!
Crosstitchfan. The child who received 5.00 from a customer. And 1.00 from the shop assistant to buy a children's magazine. For 6.00??
I was amazed at the price of the magazine, you were amazed that a child's upset behaviour should result in a reward.
Also gone are the days of 6d for a Beano.
However I am waylaying the lovely thread.
Thanks HelterSkelter1. Can’t think how I forgot that I had written that! As I said, it wasn’t a good day!
I just spoke to a freind who recently had surgery and is so grateful to be recovering. We talked about our gratitude at being able to have help from the medical profession which makes such a big difference to our lives. Not very long ago, so many helpful treatments were not possible.
I found these sayings and liked them - I hope others will like them too:
Gratitude turns what we have into enough.
Gratitude doesn’t cost a penny, but it can change your whole day.
You can’t be grateful and miserable at the same time
Has anyone else got sayings they like about gratitude or kindness?
I am very grateful to my oh ,family and good friends who were there for me through my two cancer treatments over the years I have been lucky to have seen my Gc growing up 😘
Excellent, hula hoop. I hope your situation continues.
I know how you feel as I, too, feel grateful after being told yesterday that my tumour hasn’t grown since the last scan.
Crossstitchfan I am very glad to hear your news.
Earlier in this thread I wrote about finding things every day to be grateful for - often very simple things, it is easy to overlook. I said I hoped we could continue to share kindnesses and things we are grateful for and that I'd post most days about gratitude if others joined in. But I have not been doing what I said I'd do and I've asked myself why? I realise its because I feel a little shy ....but I will now do it for some days and hope others will join in. I am grateful for all the posts about kindness and gratitude already in this thread. And yesterday I walked by the sea in a place full of happy memories - I am grateful.
I have 2 daughters who often dont get on, but today the younger one has gone out of her way to help the older one.
It did make me happy.
I understand why you were happy Helter. We all want our children to get on but many don’t. Hope it might be the start of a change in their relationship.

Thankyou for these Applegran, so very true, also-
In a world where you can be anything be kind
Today it is raining and of course I like sunshine - but there is also beauty in grey distances and seeing the trees in the rain and breeze as their leaves turn autumnal yellow and orange. As a child I liked seeing raindrops race each other down the windowpanes and still sometimes stop to watch them. I'm grateful I can still see them, though childhood is a long way in the past!
I was finding that my ankles hurt and made walking uncomfortable. So I have been doing ankle exercises - twiddling them round and also pointing my toes forward and back - and lo and behold! - my ankles don't hurt any more! I am grateful.
So many things to be grateful for. Last December I fell flat splat on my face onto concrete in the street. Tripped on a step. . It was so unexpected that I didn’t use my hands to protect myself, though probably woukd have broken a wrist in the process. Although dignity was sorely damaged, i am so grateful that my none too strong teeth were not.
This morning in the supermarket I dropped a pack of pasta onto the floor and was having a hard time bending to pick it up as I pulled a muscle in my back when at work last week.A small child rushed up out of nowhere ( aged about 3!) and picked it up and handed it to me.It was a little girl whose Mum said ‘she’s always helpful’😃 isn’t that sweet?
Silverlining I am glad you did not lose any teeth when you had that fall. And your name has reminded me of something which made me laugh in my teens, many decades ago - and laughter is something to be grateful for! My mother told me that her hair had turned entirely grey/silver by the time she was 30. Without a thought I replied 'Well, every cloud has a silver lining! ' and then we both became hysterical with laughter......! She was far too positive to be called a cloud.......
