A list just appeared on Fb with commonly misheard song lyrics - it got me thinking. Here are ours - what are yours?

I was sick and tired of everything, when you called me last night from Tesco's (Dancing Queen)

Bicycle hut, Bicycle Hut (My Simple Heart)

Sage and onion, sage an onion (Say that You Love me)

I'm a cigarette, I'm a cigarette (I'm a Single Lady)

Go......

Meant to add Peter Kay's Misheard Song Lyrics.

My little one would belt out these hymns-
Gold cherries on the mountain, over the hills & far away and
The urgent Mary had a baby boy

Every time you go away you take a piece of meat with you (should be me)

It was years before my grandmother confessed that she'd been singing the hymn "Gladly the cross I'd bear" as "Gladly the cross eyed bear"! I remember someone doing a spoof of "The Israelites" singing "Me ears are alight" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" - "Beelzebub has the Devil for a sideboard"

Golden brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my mancheros…

I never questioned what a manchero was. If I’d been asked I might have said some sort of tasty snack.

It’s “with my mind she runs”, apparently.

Yes Vice Versa I have now but hadn't when I mistook the lyrics. Prefer the sanitised version anyway.

Don't marry her have me by the beautiful south. I thought it was don't marry her Habean ( and assumed Habean was a name.
Night fever by the Bee Gees, my friend and I thought there was a line, "It's the night for the night bus ride, hurry now and catch it" !

You've not heard the original (not radio friendly!) version of that Beautiful South track then? grin

I always thought that the words to ‘when the going gets tough’ sounded like ‘go and get stuffed’
As an earlier poster said, the bee gees often sing unclear lyrics, and I did think that
‘Feel the city breakin and everybody Shakin’ in ‘staying alive’ was really ‘feel the city baking….’
I thought it referred to baking hot weather rather than everyone watching Bake Off 🤣

I remember a song from the 1960s which began "She's a must to avoid." For ages I thought they were singing "She's a muscular boy."

Sadgrandma Sat 11-Oct-25 18:17:45

When I was very young I insisted the song ‘Greensleeves’ was really Green peas
My DD used to sing ‘Living Dog’ to Cliff Richards’ Living Doll!

My small neighbour would sing 'All through my wild days, my magic sixpence' from 'Don't cry for me Argentina.

I love that 😄 instead of mad existence

We used to call Annie, I’m Not Your Daddy, the Onomatopoeia song.

I don, I don, I don wanna beya, sounds just like,
Ona, Ona, Onamatopoeia.

I am still not convinced that the Saw Doctors, one of my favourite bands, are not singing about Two Injured Swans.

Then there is Neil Diamond singing about that modern cleric, the Reverend Blue Jeans.

grandMattie Sat 11-Oct-25 17:54:42

My sister used to sing “and keep away for ever and ever” (and he shall reign…) from the Hallelujah chorus…

I can't understand lots of words in Bee Gees' songs.
