Good Morning Everyone ,
A dark start ,but with moisture on the paths looking outside here in Brackley .
Today I will get a even earlier bus to Bicester, as I plan to watch the 2026 Tour De France route presentation on TV later this morning.
My health OK ,
I am still baffled with digital phone , I want to revert to landline as I feel if I had an emergency at the moment I have no way of contact to my sister etc, obvious bt are unaware that I live in a block with 50 plus apartments with older people .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s raining in South Yorkshire at the moment and the weather maps cannot make their mind up whether I will have a window with the walking group or not. I suspect not.
I feel peculiarly unsettled and close to tears at the moment and I don’t know why. I had two moments of pure panic yesterday when I thought I had lost my phone. The first one, I had left it at the gym (phew). The second, it was in my pocket all the time. I didn’t enjoy writers group in the afternoon as several of our usual members were missing and a couple of new members were rather hard to swallow. I did produce a decent piece of work but couldn’t wait to leave. This is not like me; I’m usually welcoming and inclusive with new folk, remembering that two years ago, I was new too. Just a bad day I suppose. They will come along. Today will be a ‘suck it and see’ day.
Have the best day you can folks

Good morning from Shropshire. Some early sunshine today then the rain will set in.

A lovely few hours with DGD yesterday evening. Her dance class tried their costumes for the pantomime on so much excitement.

Today a friend is coming for coffee. We met at work years ago and get on so well.We both always feel better for our chats.

I had my weekly call from the specialist nurse yesterday.Blood tests show I have met all the targets the consultant set which I knew nothing about🤷‍♀️but good news. She isn’t phoning for three weeks now and if all continues to be well I will be discharged into the care of my GP, heaven help me🤦🏼‍♀️I will miss her calls. As well as being a lovely person it has been a kind of security blanket during my recovery .

Grandmabatty, I am sorry your feet are so painful. Is it worth trying to get a more effective pain reliever from your GP?I hope things improve soon.

Thoughts with all our mountaineers and Gingster and dragonfly’s DH recovering from surgery.

Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻

Good morning everyone.
Lots of big leaves dancing about this morning as we have a tree lined street.

Is the pottery you go to Aston Pottery and gardens Llfl ?

Have the best day you can all 🍃🍂

Good morning from further down the Solent. Dismal and dank outside and chilly inside as the familiar clicks from the radiators didn’t wake me because the clock on the boiler stuck for some reason so I’ve had to manually correct it. Hopefully it’s a one off but I’ll need to keep an eye on it.
Yesterday’s classical music group was as dreary as anything could be. The leader is away and the man stepping in did a great job but lacked the humour necessary to keep the mood light. We have some new members who sat through the whole thing with mostly blank expressions. Hopefully they’ll warm up next month.
Hope everyone has a satisfying day and best wishes to those with struggles.

Good morning and it’s wet and windy here in Essex and staying that way for the day. It will be a cosy day indoors.

The cataract op went well and is just a little sore this morning, so will take it easy for a few days. I was last but one to have the procedure and was sat beside a man who talked to me non stop for 3 hours. My Dd arrived at 10 , so he had a new audience and told the same tales to her 😵‍💫. I was pleased to get into the theatre for a lie down. 😅.

NHS at its best with caring, friendly staff and professional , informative doctors, all run like clockwork.🙏.

Dd will come over today and get us some lunch/dinner and do any jobs required.
DS1 is in Paris for a few days on business but will help out at the weekend.

I hope all poorlies and carers have a better day. 💐

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast. Enjoyed the opera company rehearsal last night and it was a better turn out. The concert is on Saturday and we really need more rehearsals. I haven’t needed a concert dress for ages as moved from opera, so will dig one out. I’ve put a little weight on too…
My good friend who has rejoined with me, has lost a stone in five weeks on this new slimming thing.

I’m waiting now for the carpet fitter for the spare bedroom, teabags at the ready.
I hope you feel cheerier today Greyduster, glad your op’ is over Gingster, nice photos today and thoughts to all🌺

Good morning from a grey NE where it looks damp.
Window cleaner didn't turn up yesterday, I am up early again in case he comes today. To give him access I have to unlock big metal gates.
DD, SIL and I went shopping, self scanned and when we got to to the till we had to have a rescan. It would have been quicker for me to go through the checkout, which I do when SIL is not here.
SIL updated my two laptops that still have Windows 10 making them okay to use for another year. Will be helpful while I get used to my new laptop.
Washing and ironing today.
Thinking of poorly people and their carers.

Good morning everyone from the Bonny east coast of Fife.
I got my hair washed and trimmed yesterday it’s looking much better. I was beginning to look like a shaggy dog. It’s a rest day for me after my trip to Edinburgh at the weekend where I saw an Elvis tribute band - it was brilliant I enjoyed myself very much

Take care my friends and enjoy the day 💐💐

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a breezy grey morning in North Yorkshire. I am so late getting going that I can actually see the tree, no signs yet of squirrels or pigeons. As I am sick of saying (and having!) another horrible night with very little sleep. I wonder if I could get a prescription for a large hammer and someone to come round tonight and literally knock me out!! On second thoughts no, I would then have a horrible headache to add to the rest of it!!

Yesterday I was struggling to do much, full of aches and pains etc. It was quite sunny and was quoted as the best of weather for the week. I knew I wouldnt be able to do much physically, so waited for RHS Harlow carr opened at 9.30 am , in hopes of them having a buggy avail able, but no chance. Still at least I hadnt driven all the way there and not been able to have one to go round. So fingers crossed, I have risked booking a buggy for tomorrow, and just hope that I am feeling up to going and the weather is not too bad. Next week it is half term, so Harrogate is to be avoided at all costs, it is busy enough at normal times anyway. So hopefully I shall manage a trip round and get to see the lovely autumn colours before all this wind and rain sends all the leaves flying and smashes the plants downwards. So yesterday my halo was shining a little as it turned into a domestic day. The major thing was getting my car insurance done. It does annoy me that you can only renew it on line and pay no more than the price given. If you phone them it costs you more. However , knowing what insurance people are like, about weaseling out of paying up in anyway possible, if there is a possible query about wording, or anything I prefer to check with a person, and then insist that they send me an email confirming any changes decided upon, which differ from the quote. Anyway all straightforward , my actual cost had gone down by a small amount but still pricy. However it keeps me mobile and independent and as long as I can drive safely I have every intention of carrying on. So plodded on doing bits and pieces as I was able, and then went out to get a few things on the buggy. The weather was brighter and dry and so off I went. My last call was Tesco, which is probably the nearest shop to home . Came out and set off home but just along the road a very sudden heavy downpour of rain. By the time I reached home I was drenched. My hair was sticking to my head and dripping down my neck. The top half was covered by my mac, but my trousers were soaked at the front , so wet they were plastered to my legs and soaking wet sox etc. I got home and squelched in and back to dry the buggy a bit and cover it quickly. Then had to literally strip off and change clothes and get the hair dryer out to both dry my hair and feel a bit warmer. Well it was a rain water rinse all right!! At least I looked clean and tidy when I went to whist last night. A pleasant evening, but had to give in and sit at one table instead of moving round, too much pain to manage moving about. Still good to get out and meet people and enjoy the game and take my mind off things.

Today I have already got the washer going full blat with the bedding, and if it s finished before I go to the meeting this morning will chance putting it out to dry. Whilst that is finishing off I am hunting for 2 poetry books , which seem to have disappeared. We are having a session of people bringing in favourite books, poetry or whatever and sharing and letting other people have a look, and we may discover some new authors that we might like to try. I have already put out my purple jumper to wear as I am taking for one thing the Jenny Joseph poem that starts "When I am old, I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesnt go and doesnt suit me" a great poem many of you will no doubt know. Then I am planning to sing that Joyce Grenfell song about the two ladies who have to dance together bust to bust!! It should be a bit of fun and lightening the miserable weather and news , so that for an hour or two we can enjoy ourselves and hopefully discover something new. I have a great Carol Ann duffy book that I am trying to find from the bookcase too. Ah well, it is cheering me up to even think about them, so positive start to the morning. I have heard my Bach and am about to get some coffee so things looking up a little and looking out can now see a lovely golden carpet of leaves below the tree. Must look out for a conker or two. Just love the colour of them as they come out of the shell, but it doesnt last long. Seen some very good plump looking chestnuts on the market yesterday. Not cheap £4! but I do love them, shame I dont have a fire like the old days to cook them under. One of my favourite nuts to enjoy. Like most nuts and when I lived in muslim countries, where there was of course no alcohol if you were in meetings etc there would always be lots of nuts , which I enjoyed apart from walnuts, which I dislike . Today Jessie will hopefully be coming, and she can turn the matress and make up the bed, and give all the carpets a good hoover. I havent dared to even try with the hoover this week, the action of using it is very bad for me, but can usually do a bit, but it all looks a disgrace at the moment. At least now I have my new grabber to be able to pick stuff off the floor. At the moment it is a bit too hard to use , I really have to grip it hard, but it will wear in in a little while and will be a great anti frustration aid, when I drop things on the floor. Have tried it out and it actually could pick up a biro. My old one had got so slack it would lose them as it picked them up. Very frustrating , but now can even pick up my boot to bring it near me whilst I am sat down. So by tonight, I shall at least be sat in a clean and somewhat tidy flat - knowing me I shall manage to quickly drop things and make it look quite untidy in a short space of time!!

Mick I think BT have to keep your hand line in certain cases. I would suggest that you might ring age concern or citizens advice people who will probably know the up to date situation regarding this. I know several people who have an alarm system that depends on the land line and special arrangements have been made for them, so think that may be your best bet. Also if you get them involved, I think they sometimes get more attention from the phone companies than an individual. Karma lady, hope your engineer is hard at work now and sorting out your problems. May you luxuriate in a warm home tonight! Pantglas2 a lovely photo, wish I was there looking at it too. peli loved your photo too, very ghostly and delightful. Mary doll lovely to hear from you and you sound in better spirits, despite the pj's dampening effect. Hope you have managed to dry the sofa too. Lovely for you to see Dollie and Baby doll will no doubt lift the spirits too.

Ah the washer has just finished so think that the washing will get out on the line before the meeting and fingers crossed I get back before it gets rained upon. Hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm and well. Wishing you all a peaceful and happy day

Good morning, Michael12 and everyone!

After another long, weird shift at work, my ''dinner'' was about 2:30 am at home.

I'd made up a cuppa and shoved a bowl of Fray Bentos Meatballs in Gravy in the microwave for 4 minutes, then a box of McCain Quick Chips for 4 minutes.

As I took the box from the microwave, I accidentally dropped it. Thankfully, none of the chips came out; they just landed squarely on the floor. Then, as I bent down to pick them up, a whopping great 8-legged thing came running out from under the washing machine IN MY DIRECTION!

To say I screamed the place down is an understatement! I ran in the opposite direction of ''the beast'', shaking from top to toe!

I decided to have my chips, balls and tea in the living room instead of the kitchen!

Have a good one, all of you!

Grammaretto Thu 23-Oct-25 09:10:33

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I slept badly so am tired. Yoga this morning and plenty to be getting on with.
She never finished anything will be my epitaph.

Sorry you're so down Greyduster. I hope it's temporary. I had a panic over losing my bus pass and passport, both of which turned up. at home

Nearly everyone I tell thinks I should appeal my planning refusal but I don't have the stomach for it .

I'm making plans to visit my DS in Ireland in November which should be a lovely change.

Glad your cataract op went well Gingster. It's great to be able to see properly again.
Good news about your DH Dragonfly
gM no comment but flowers

We have these Revolution Laundries all over Scotland Ash plus old fashioned launderettes. Remember we have all those tenement flats in the cities and tourists and campers and airbnbs.
I found one woman washing all her rugs in the 18kg machine. When she said they were dog rugs I became a bit squeamish about sharing 😂😮

Have the best day possible everyone.

Grammaretto Thu 23-Oct-25 09:13:39

You ought to be able to find lots of conkers Madeleine. It's a mast year.

Blossoming Thu 23-Oct-25 09:23:36

Good morning from a brightening Lancashire. Those results sound hopeful Susan, fingers crossed things continue to improve. Sounds like your DH is well on the road to recovery Dragonfly. I missed that you were having cataract surgery Gingster, glad it all went well.
Have a good day everyone 🌹

A quick Good Morning from a wet and chilly N. Bucks. I’m late and will come back to read all the news.
We arrived home at 2 am. our flight having been delayed .
Today I must try to make an appointment with the GP re. my shoulder and I am also having some problems with my left hand and foot.
Will pop down town for a few essentials, the fridge is bare.
This afternoon is sewing club but I’ll see how I feel.
Wishing all a good day.

Blossoming Thu 23-Oct-25 09:26:30

Good morning, hailing from London. I don't watch much TV so I didn't know Hyacinth from Keeping Up Appearances passed away. Dame Patricia Routledge 😢

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Oct-25 10:23:25

Good morning everyone! Such lovely posts to read on here. Always a good start to my day.

Thank you especially to the witty posters who can help me raise a smile. A cheery start.

She never finished anything will be my epitaph was so dry Grammaretto! Plus something Ginster said (but if I scroll back to find it I’ll lose this). x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 23-Oct-25 10:26:53

It was this:

Ilovedogs22 Thu 23-Oct-25 10:36:54

Good morning from a changeable west midlands.
Looking-out towards a field nearby, sadly it is destined to be covered with hundreds of new houses!
I knew it would happen one day & I pledged to move when it did, but where does one move to?
I was told that "You don't buy a view" & it's just so true, alas!

Kalu Thu 23-Oct-25 11:40:17

Greyduster. I get it….there seems to be no rhyme or reason to those flat days which hit us out of the blue. We know they will pass but getting through those days is so hard. ((((Hugs)))). Hoping you feel more settled soon.

Sueinkent Thu 23-Oct-25 11:51:24

Morning all. Blowing an absolute bull bitcher (as my dad usedto say) here on Kent coast. Can just about stand up. Quite mild though. Watch out for those falling branches.

Sueinkent Thu 23-Oct-25 11:52:47

Re: Pat Routledge, The Talking heads Lady of Letters is on Iplayer. Wonderful performance.

dragonfly46 Thu 23-Oct-25 11:58:35

Grammaretto I am sad your little eco house cannot go ahead. It sounded like a great idea. I wonder why planning permission was not granted. Maybe there is just a small thing that could be put right.
