Good Morning Everyone ,
A dark start ,but with moisture on the paths looking outside here in Brackley .
Today I will get a even earlier bus to Bicester, as I plan to watch the 2026 Tour De France route presentation on TV later this morning.
My health OK ,
I am still baffled with digital phone , I want to revert to landline as I feel if I had an emergency at the moment I have no way of contact to my sister etc, obvious bt are unaware that I live in a block with 50 plus apartments with older people .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s raining in South Yorkshire at the moment and the weather maps cannot make their mind up whether I will have a window with the walking group or not. I suspect not.
I feel peculiarly unsettled and close to tears at the moment and I don’t know why. I had two moments of pure panic yesterday when I thought I had lost my phone. The first one, I had left it at the gym (phew). The second, it was in my pocket all the time. I didn’t enjoy writers group in the afternoon as several of our usual members were missing and a couple of new members were rather hard to swallow. I did produce a decent piece of work but couldn’t wait to leave. This is not like me; I’m usually welcoming and inclusive with new folk, remembering that two years ago, I was new too. Just a bad day I suppose. They will come along. Today will be a ‘suck it and see’ day.
Have the best day you can folks

Good morning from a very wet Suffolk where the weather is just as predicted. High winds expected soon which are forecast to last all day.

I have my stretch class shortly and I expect to be blown home. Yesterday was lovely at the coast where the cafe was very busy. It now has a quite an extensive menu including specials. I had one of kiln roasted salmon, linguine and a white wine sauce…delicious. DH had haddock and chips, the portion so enormous that about a third of the fish came home for little dogs tea, minus the batter.

We reminisced about how the original cafe was, about half the size of the present one, which served only fish and chips and had a donut making machine in the corner. The donuts were always a highlight for the children when we visited about 40 years ago when we relocated to Suffolk from London.

Hope all have the best day possible especially those with struggles in their lives at present.

Morning from a lightening S Hants, rain and wind due.
Yesterday we had the cooker hob cleaned, both are now pristine. A quick ten minutes in the dentist confirmed all is well, then my garden helper came, she is so patient, the garden is set to be composted, then left alone.
Impatience is a good sign dragonfly!
How ethereal peli very clever.
I’m collecting our friend from his Majorca trip later Pantglas, his daughter lives there, so he’s a regulus visitor.
Best wishes to those recovering from procedures.

Good morning from a wet and windy W Kent. Interesting day out yesterday with DD2 and DGS5, shopping with a teenage boy is different! We were successful though and had a nice lunch out. The early appointment with the physio was very useful, I had thought I needed insoles but he explained to me why they would possibly cause different problems and to stick with what I use.
Today is art group so a bit of painting and a lot of chat
Love the photo Peli clever idea
Best wishes to all

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s grey and cloudy
It’ll be good to get your house warmer again karma
I had another busy day with our visitors yesterday, they went out walking most of the morning, back for a late lunch and then we all had a quick blustery visit to the beach at Nairn in the afternoon. We rounded off the evening playing the card game Skyjo. They’re leaving after lunch today so I’ll gradually get the house back to normal although I’m going out with my pal tonight to an early festive evening at a local garden centre
So sorry to hear about your sore painful feet grandmabatty hope you can get some rest today
Enjoy your holiday Pantglas and NannyJan enjoy the show tonight
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning everyone from a very wet and windy Northampton. Yesterday stayed fine and I should have done some washing, but by the.time I thought about it, it was too late.

I am entertaining three ladies for coffee this morning, (one neighbour and.two ex-neighbours). We have known each other since these houses were built when we all moved in during the same year, 1993. There will be lots of gossip exchanged and I have home-made tea-loaf and fruity flapjacks to keep the wolf from the door!

Well, yesterday I used the newly installed shower for the first time, and it was indeed lovely. It was so nice to use the en-suite properly again. The plumber had done a really good job. I can now give the main bathroom shower a really good clean and keep it for guest use.

May pop to the shops after lunch as it looks dry then.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 23-Oct-25 07:49:23

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It’s dark and I’m still in bed.

I will listen to the final two lectures of my V&A course this morning. Then OH and I will drive to a pottery about 20 minutes away. There is a lovely cafe where we’ll have quiche and cake for lunch and a look around the shop. Not just a look - I always buy something!

On our return home we are going to clear out our two-drawer filing cabinet. A task we have been putting off for probably years! We have a shredder but we might end up having a small fire.

Have a good day everyone. I’m thinking of the FGT2S and others with difficulties.

Kalu Thu 23-Oct-25 07:47:10

Good morning all. A dry day ahead for Glasgow and still quite mild.

A lovely meet up again with TopsyIrene yesterday catching up on each others news but goodness Waitrose was colder inside the store than outside.
Those particular machines have been around here for years in Scotland Ash. I haven’t had a need to use one as my W/Mc is large enough to take a super king duvet but DD uses them.
Hairdressers this afternoon is my only set plan otherwise, the day is my own to do as I please……foutering around at leisure sounds good.

peli Such clever artwork. Those dresses have a beautifully ethereal effect.

Very best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

GrannyIvy Thu 23-Oct-25 07:46:29

Good morning from a dark very windy Cambridgeshire. I am still sleeping in my spare room due to ongoing decorating which is making extremely slow progress due to DH being distracted by other things…….

We have a landline but tbh tend to just use our mobiles now. Could you use your mobile Mick.

Yesterday brought good news regarding our neighbours tall leylandi nuisance tree it is official with a Court order for it to be cut back very significantly and maintained to that height is now in place for the life of the tree by whoever lives in that house.

Today is my Pilates class and then tackle the ironing pile which is growing steadily. DH will I hope be busy decorating before escaping to an evening meeting 🤞

Wishing a good day to all.

Redcar Thu 23-Oct-25 07:40:54

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s getting light out but is wet and windy as forecast. I shan’t be going for a walk today. I did very little yesterday but feel a bit better this morning so may do some light housework.
Enjoy your holiday pantglas, a lovely photo.
karma I hope your boiler is successfully mended today and you are able to warm your house to a comfortable temperature.
Best wishes to all those who are suffering in any way.
Have as good a day as is possible.

NannyJan53 Thu 23-Oct-25 07:37:27

Good morning from a rainy Black Country.

Thursday walking group this morning, but doubt many will attend. It is going to be shorter than normal anyway as the rain was forecast.

This afternoon we are off to Birmingham, check into our Hotel, as we are going to see Sunny Afternoon this evening. A musical based on Kinks songs. Part of my birthday present from MrJ

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Georgesgran Thu 23-Oct-25 07:34:42

Good Morning from Durham - a cool, wet day is forecast. I’m waiting to hear from both DDs who have severe Covid, luckily their DHs don’t and no sign of it in their little ones, but a nuisance for half term week and Halloween.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee at 10am, then a bit of food shopping.
DHL said they’d attempted to deliver a parcel yesterday, but no-one was at home. That’s totally untrue, but another attempt today and I’ll leave the porch door wide open and a message pinned to the front door during the time window.
I think my gardeners might turn up today for the final time this year. My garden bin is already full with my own leaves and the huge sycamore in a neighbour’s garden has yet to start dropping its leaves - it’s a bl**dy nuisance. When the garden bin collections cease soon, I have to keep its leaves in black bin bags until Spring.

Hoping there’s a bit better news from our unwell GNs and the carers for others.

Best wishes to all. X

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Oct-25 07:33:28

Good morning from a breezy S E Essex, we are due to get the edge of storm Benjamin, so rain and wind is today’s forecast.

My cleaning fairies are back today, hooray. They can only do upstairs, downstairs isn’t finished.

I am off to the hairdresser (lowlights and a trim) then I shall go into the big Sainsbury’s.

The 10yr old is here tonight for a sleepover.

I hope Gingster is comfy after her cataract surgery yesterday 🌸

Thinking of all with trials and treatments 🙋‍♀️

Grandmabatty Thu 23-Oct-25 07:27:00

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 6° and seems damp out. Marydoll dgs2 loves making fruit salad but won't eat it! He likes to take it home for mummy. Dragonfly I'm pleased to hear how well your dh is doing.
Yesterday was a quiet day and today will be even quieter. I've had a rotten night's sleep and my feet are so sore that I'll probably go back to bed at some point. So no art class for me. Have a good day all.

kittylester Thu 23-Oct-25 07:25:20

Good morning all from a dark North Leicestershire. We had heavy rain in the night.

I had my eye injection yesterday. I find the post jab restrictions hard to remember. Pre-op today and Sainsbury's delivery.

Have the best day possible all.

Marydoll Thu 23-Oct-25 07:11:38

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is a chilly 6°C

I would be lost without our landline and am dreading the inevitable.
I prefer to use it for medical appointments and DH never answers his mobile!
Mick, surely you can use your mobile in an emergency?

Yesterday was a quiet one, with little to show for it, apart from the fact that once I eventually got out of bed, I naughtily and foolishly made some toffee apples and pears. Not the most sensible ideas, when you have crowns, but I had such a craving for one!
I have to say, they were as good as my mother's. I did cut up the fruit into small pieces 😉.

I had planned to do some more culling for a BHF uplift today, but had to abandon it, I felt too unwell.
I was delighted when the driver phoned last night to ask if he could pick up the bags last night, instead of this morning.
The spare room is full of Christmas gifts ( I'm doing it slowly, for fear I will be too unwell) and I wanted rid of the bags.

Yesterday afternoon, my spirits lifted, when a certain young lady appeared in the conservatory after school. I didn't hear the door!
It was unexpected and once Dollie had been fed and watered, she snuggled up to tell me all the gossip. ♥️

DH and I had such a laugh last night. After my bath, I came downstairs to find DH had made tea and a hot water bottle for my aching back and hip.
We had settled down to watch TV, when I got up to get thread for some sewing I was doing.
I realised both my pyjamas and sofa were soaking wet, DH hadn't tightened the hot water bottle properly! I thought I had had an accident. 🤣

DH's friend had his bone marrow transplant yesterday, God bless that young donor in Australia.
I think the whole cul de sac must have wept tears of joy.

Today we have Babydoll. We won't venture far, just some scooting wearing her new Spiderman helmet. She will love it.
DS2 keeps making suggestions of what we can do, he doesn't understand my limitations at the moment.
Unfortunately, there will be no pancakes for breakfast. I just haven't the energy. 😒 DS usually takes some home to eat, while he is working. He will be disappointed!!
I plan to make fresh fruit salad with her ladyship, the only problem is, that she likes to test the fruit, before it goes in the bowl! 🤣

I wish you all the best of days. Prayers for the Dragonflies and FGT's.

dragonfly46 Thu 23-Oct-25 06:57:49

Good morning from a dark East Midlands, I hate the dark mornings.

My sister in law went back yesterday as her DH needed the car so went to see DH on my own. He has had the epidural out and would now like the catheter out. He has an en-suite room he cannot make use of. The consultant doesn’t think he will be out until Wednesday.

Hoping every one has the best day possible.

peli Thu 23-Oct-25 06:56:14

Good Morning fr MS, sunny & 26c. We're going out for the day to a town about an hr away. It's a farming area & I like seeing all the animals grazing in the fields. The photo I posted is not done by me, but some clever person built these ghostly shapes out of chicken wire, sprayed w/ glow-in-the-dark paint to show up @ night. However a few yrs ago, we did build a gigantic 6' spider🕷️, which was waaay more work than we anticipated, lol

Ashcombe Thu 23-Oct-25 06:41:03

Good morning from a very cold and windy corner of France. Our plans for shopping are postponed because the wind chill factor is making it very much colder with the risk of fallen trees on our route to Bonnétable.

Yesterday's jaunt to wash the duvet at the supermarket facility was very successful and I was surprised that a few of you had experienced using one of these machines either in France or the UK, particularly in Scotland. It even texted DH when there was five minutes to go on the programme! Clever!

Lovely view, Pantglas2; enjoy your holiday! 😎

I hope the boiler behaves from now on, karmalady.

Stay safe and warm, everyone! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

RosesandLilac Thu 23-Oct-25 06:40:17

Good morning, it’s damp here in south Glos with rain forecast later so at least this morning’s dog walk should be dryish.
I had my flu jab yesterday, my arm is a little sore but pleased that’s one illness I’ll dodge! There’s a lot of Covid around here at the moment, I know of at least 7 people who’ve been really poorly with it.
I had a double art classesZoom yesterday, two hours in the morning and three in the evening, so enjoyed it! I’m really getting back into it and loving the learning.
Today it’s the usual routine, I will roast a chicken for dinner I think then that’ll feed us for several days 😋
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

mum2three Thu 23-Oct-25 06:36:23

Good morning from Lancashire. Dry at the moment but waiting for wind and rain to arrive later.
On the subject of phones, my landline is still working normally. BT hasn't upgraded this area yet.
I need to buy a new heater but it's difficult to find one which is not a fan heater. I wanted something which looks nice as well as being functional.

Bellasnana Thu 23-Oct-25 06:16:13

Good morning from Malta where we expect a high of 25°C.

Yesterday was hot so our walk along the promenade was a bit of a struggle and we soon dived into the nearest air-conditioned café for refreshments!

The boys visited with their mum and were delighted with their Lidl kitchen which I had bought them, poor DD3 had to assemble it which looked very complicated but, thankfully, she has inherited her father’s tenacity and soon had it done. So now they have a kitchen at Nana’s house as well as the rather worn out one at home which I bought for their first Christmas and has been well used.

No plans yet for today but an outing of some sort will be on the cards. My friend leaves on Monday so we need to make the most of the next few days.

Enjoy yourselves in 🇪🇸, Pantglas. Hope you get your phone sorted Mick. I no longer bother with a landline as nobody called on it except wrong numbers!

Glad your boiler is being fixed at last karma, you’ve managed very well under the circumstances but it will be good to have normal service resumed I’m sure.

Thinking of all ‘mountaineers’ and hoping for a good day for everyone.☀️

Pantglas2 Thu 23-Oct-25 05:47:42

Buen dia 👋 from a dark Palma, Majorca where the sun is due to make an appearance shortly - here’s yesterday’s view while supping my morning reviver☕️

Have only scanned all your news but good to see that health challenges are easing somewhat for some…wouldn’t a magic wand be marvellous (I’d volunteer for morning waving shift🤗)

Meeting our friends again for lunch (they’re staying further up the coast) no doubt some 🍷will be imbibed which will have a ruinous effect on this evening 🤦‍♀️ I’m such a lightweight, renowned for ‘can’t hold her ale’…

Safe journeys to all fellow travellers, home and away, and hope Mick sorts his phone out soon!

karmalady Thu 23-Oct-25 05:46:56

Good morning from s somerset, colder again today and lots of rain, windy

Not a nice day today but the heating engineer is coming at 8.30 with the boiler part. I have seen how difficult it was to get access to that part in my ariston so am expecting the repair to take a longish time and I have transferred money from savings to my bank account.

I am looking forward to having hot water and a warm house, been without ch for 3 weeks. To be fair the bedroom temperature has not dropped below 17.9 with no other heat input. I did close all my window vents, which made a considerable difference to staying warm and have looked upon the whole process as a learning curve

Braised red cabbage ingredients are all prepped and ready, I will assemble and cook when the plumber has left. My fridge smells of onion, which is chopped and in a zip lock bag, which I accidentally did not close properly. I can see me having to empty the fridge later today and give it a good wipe, probably with a bicarb solution

Today will be spent getting back to normal, my living room is a mess, I am surprised at how much I had stuffed into the manifold cupboard. I am going to put up a new hook system in the garage, for my shopping trolley, which I have not used for 6 years but it is in good condition and is a rolser so I am keeping it. No point keeping it handy in that hall cupboard. I will do a little de-cluttering from that cupboard today eg the henry tools can go into that trolley, I have hardly used them either and I only keep old henry behind the sofa, for the cold stove ashes during winter

Have a good day

grandMattie Thu 23-Oct-25 05:35:43

Good morning from a dry Bristol. I don’t think we’re much affected by the forecast storm.
There is nothing you can do about your digital phone, Mick. In their wisdom, BT has made all landlines digital. No use if there is a power cut. The only thing to do is to keep a portable charger full up at all times. Meanwhile the alarm caller you have in your flat is safe from power cuts.
Yesterday went well and, until the afternoon, all was fine.
I got a letter from the solicitors dealing with that scam. I am getting back only some 10% of the money lost. The solicitor said that the chances of an appeal being successful are vanishingly small. Please , please, please, NO comments. I need time to lick my wounds.
I’ve got tai chi this morning. I shan’t be going to DD’s this evening after all…. A shame but c’est la vie.
Hugs to our mountaineers.
