Use the phone camera to take photos of lots of things in awkward places. Model numbers on machines; plumbing/electric connections; nice hair cut on lady across the cafe! etc etc

Hello and Good Morning Gransnet

I think the post about small fonts sizes was excellent and the solution very helpful. I too cannot read instructions on food packaging anymore.
Fonts seem to have shrunk at a rate of knots over the past free years.

Plus l had a cataract operation on my right eye two days a go. So life is difficult at the mo, as l live by myself.

Does anybody know if font size for people with sight difficulties is covered by the Disability Discrimination Act. DDA.?

I think it is now called the Equalities Act.

Or, if any of the main organisations who represent Blind or people with vision problems are or have done any campaigns. about font size?

Enjoy your day.

I’m the odd one out here 😀. I’m 72 and for some reason I can still read very small print without glasses but I do need them for distance. When I’m shopping with them on I get frustrated when trying to read prices and have to whip them off and either walk round with them in my hand or put them in my bag then later wonder where the blooming things are 😂

I’ve been doing this for a couple of years but I wonder what else the phone can do that I haven’t a clue about but would make life easier.

I’ve got a magnifying glass app in my phone that I’m always using.

.

Magnifying glasses come in handy.
I carry a small one in my handbag and keep a larger one on my bedside cabinet.

Not expensive.

Good for meter readings and seeing what is hiding in dark cupboard corners.

I'd rather shut the cupboard door!! 🕷

It’s the only way to shop these days

My son told me to do this quite a while ago but I usually forget at the time and only remember once it's too late.

I have a friend who unfortunately has MD and she has been doing this for a long time. She magnifies everything but of course needs to.

Duvetdiva Fri 24-Oct-25 14:19:39

You can also just use the photograph app to magnify the image

I've been doing the same for a while now when trying to read the very small cooking instructions on a lot of food (obv it's not my eyesight, it's the teeny tiny fonts) 🙃

I am partially sighted, so as you can imagine, I have a significant problem.

I agreed to be part of a research project, and the American company funding it sent all of the paperwork in regular font. Even the ophthalmology consultant looked embarrassed as she hadn't noticed so she had to fill mine in for me.

That is a great idea! Thank you.

My daughter showed me how to do this…..she wouldn’t admit she needed specs!

My brother sent me a beautiful Italian magnifying glass for my 60th!

Nowadays I do the photographing and enlarging thing.

Excellent idea. I feel I need a Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass when shopping to read tiny print on cans and packets

I still have my Mum's magnifying glass. 🙂

However, that's a good idea, fancyflowers.

Great idea isn't it!
I did the same recently when I was trying to read the care label in a pair of trousers 🙂

This morning I have solved the tiny fonts on my tablet bottle. I took a photo of it and then enlarged the photo so that it was easy to read. I thought I would like to share this handy tip.
