Storm Benjamin

I thought it was reported on the lunch-time news that Storm Benjamin had passed over the west of the country and was heading for East Anglia.

While there were initially four Met Office yellow weather warnings, external covering large swathes of England and Wales, these have been whittled down to two - for rain in Norfolk and Suffolk valid to 16:00 BST and wind across eastern England until 15:00 BST.

However, as the rain continues across Norfolk and Suffolk, there is still a low chance of some localised flooding.

Strangely, here in the west of the country, the winds increased about an hour ago, the rain started and is lashing down out there!

What's the weather like in other areas?

We're north of the yellow warning zones. In the North Pennines it's breezy with showers. DS lives in Essex and it was pretty horrible there this morning - rain had started 5pm yesterday.

We weren't in one either 😲

No rain and very little wind here in Berkshire. Another storm in a teacup ?smile

The teacup is here! 😁

Just starting raining here in Stockport, quite sharply actually but we have had a quiet morning and the sun broke through briefly.
I don’t think we were on the storm part of the weather map I saw this morning.
Too far west.
I hope those affected are ok.

Sunny in Bedfordshire

It was windy during the night here, chilly. We went out around 7am and it was not too bad and even brightened up a bit during the morning. Then it started to rain about 1pm, but it has stopped at the moment. Still windy. In Dorset.

Very gusty wind tbis morning in NSurrey. Light rain. Then a very sunny afternoon, but the clouds have gathered now although the wind has dropped. So far not as dramatic as forecast here. Just a blustery autumnal day.

Here in the West Country it is raining heavily and rather windy.

Giving storms names and going into panic mode over the weather is something I find extremely irritating.

It's been a very blustery day here in East Kent. There are endless roadworks here, and the storm has blown over many signs telling of " road closed ahead" and indicating diversions. There are some fairly confused drivers practicing their skills at " turning in the road, using forward and reverse gears"

Never encountered a hurricane or cyclone then Desdemona?

Or been caught in a storm, flooded, lost a roof, been unable to get to an important appointment, had a tree crash on your house in this country?

It's not panic mode, it's enabling people to take precautions.

Off and on showers, cold at 9.5, I was collecting a friend from Southampton airport, landing aborted first time due to the cross winds.

We are just up the road from uttb
Sunny here this morning. Mild enough but that wind got up around 4pm when I nipped into our larder. Brr!
No rain nor showers as yet.

S W Wales. The odd sunny period now with short showers. Before lunchtime…heavy persistent rain from about 9 o’clock.

We’re in SW Scotland, it’s been a lovely sunny day, but a bit nippy out of the sun.

Rain from yesterday evening until about 11 this morning. Quite windy in the night and all morning. Strong enough to blow the grandchildren’s slide over and an empty compost bin to roll around the garden. I’m in Essex. Still breezy but bright and cold now.

Tempête Benjamin, our first Autumn storm, really got going here in Herault, by mid-morning, together with random drizzly outbursts. Afternoon, with blue sky and sunshine, the Med’ coast suffered ‘knock-you-flat gusts up to 140kph in really exposed areas and mostly 70 otherwise. Lovely warm day to dry a raincoat? Sadly not. It kept on leaving the line and clearing off to hide anywhere else in the garden. Too dangerous to go walking and to drive, so we’ve been reading and listening to rattling shutters.

Very heavy rain overnight but sunny with a chill breeze today here in Lincolnshire. DH had got himself in a panic yesterday and sandbagged the driveway. We are slightly downhill in a cul de sac and occasionally have had water running round house, ( though fortunately not in).

Nandalot Thu 23-Oct-25 17:40:39

Should have added, thankfully no problems this time.

Raining here now in south Manchester. ☔️

Bright and sunny in West Kent, but cold and very windy!

Torrential showers in Carmarthenshire. With sunny periods, but cold and windy.
