Random pink flamingo

One of our loveliest posters has a granddaughter who has scoliosis. The youngster has suffered much pain, many operations and difficult times in her young life.
She had to wear a cage on her leg for a long time and her lovely, caring, talented grandmother made her lots of stylish and appropriate trousers to wear for school and for leisure.
Anyway, to get to the point. One day following one of her many operations, the young girl was given a box of Lego to distract her from her pain. On opening the box she spotted a tiny random pink flamingo, she shrieked with joy, smiled and laughed.
What a wonderful moment from which we can all to learn a valuable lesson.
No matter how tough life gets there is always a random thing to lift our spirits.
Sometimes it’s obvious and sometimes we need to look for it but it’s always there.
What are your random pink flamingo moments? 🦩🦩🦩

Have you been at the homemade elderberry wine, perchance?

My pink flamingo moment yesterday came during a trying volunteer session, for the first time I wanted to be anywhere but there. Suddenly a voice said hello, I looked up and there was our elder granddaughter. The biggest hug had me smiling for the rest of the session and into the afternoon.

My moment was when my five month old great-grandson held his arms out to me for a cuddle. I didn’t realise such a small baby could do this, but he did. He did it the next day too, so it was for real!
I thank my granddaughter for this. She ensures I am a big part of her baby’s life, and visits often with him.
(She has always adored flamingoes, funnily enough!)

There is a Disney nature film about flamingos. There is an album Called the Crimson flight it's the music from the film . I listen to that when I need to completely relax.
Got it on my free Spotify.

I wasn’t aware of the story behind the flamingoes Lauranorder but thank you for refreshing memories. I get it now.

I don't think GNHQ likes the picture on the album cover! 🤣
Try once more.

It was just politeness to let us know he was going to ask her, not for permission as such.

I had no idea what the pink flamingoes were, so thanks for explaining. No kidding, I thought it might be about Manfred Mann at first!

I know it's not at all the same. I have no grandchildren. However my daughter's dear little dog is always pleased to see me and recognises me in a sea of people.

Went to the park today with my friend who is on holiday here. We arrived early having arranged to meet DD3 and my three-year-old twin grandsons.

My flamingo moment was when they spotted me and both came running, arms out, to embrace me with joy on their dear little faces. 🦩 🦩

That's why there's a pink flamingos on some threads! I didn't realise.

I hope the young girl is doing well.
However, I'm a bit puzzled why she has a cage on her leg as scoliosis is curvature of the spine. I do know quite a lot about about this and, if treatment is needed (and not refused by the person because of possible side effects) then it involves metal rods being inserted to straighten the spine as the child grows. I think Princess Eugenie had this done.

I impulse bought a beautiful soft snuggly long dressing gown today. It's a gorgeous colour. I'm so simply happy to have it! 🦩

LauraNorder
I remember several years ago when you started the pink flamingo but I wasn't sure why.

It's lovely to see 🦩

Today I was taken for a ride up to Alston. A cold but clear day and wonderful scenery and views. The trees beginning to turn to autumn colours and the clouds making shadows across the hills. A change to be the passenger, and whilst I was in the car, the difficulties of my leg and back didnt count. There were houses way up on the hillsides and it reminded me of how years ago they would have belonged to farmers and miners. How lonely in particular it would have been for the women, as the men would at least have other men to talk to as they went off to the mine, but the woman would be alone all day and no phones or radio in those days. I have much to be grateful for, and today was a day away from frustration and peaceful and calm. Didnt see any actual pink flamingos but am sure they were up in the clouds somewhere. A day to remember when the going is not so good.

The flamingo energy. I like that.

Jaxjacky Sat 25-Oct-25 13:58:23

Ever since then LauraNorder my GM posts finish with a few flamingoes, I alluded to it this morning, the original a wonderful happenstance.

I well remember that pink flamingo LauraNorderr. I am so grateful that I can still enjoy my daily walk with my beloved MrB.

karmalady Sat 25-Oct-25 13:00:51

It can be hard LauraNorderr like everyone I have sad times, widowed and lost another two family members all within 18 months. The pink flamingos do help to get through the day but sometimes we do need to look for them, even if just going for a walk and putting a smile on a random face via a wave or a good morning or a chat

I give good things away and that alone brings me the karma of flamingo land and yesterday an old man tipped his hat after I had chatted to him. I skipped all the way home. Good things rebound back but only if we are are susceptible to the good energies that are out there. The flamingo energy

Lovely moment Noodlenut. Funny how these moments can make us laugh or cry, joy either way.
Hope your granddaughter is okay now.
Yes karmalady sunshine on your shoulders is often a random bringer of happiness. We’ve had a fair share of it this year.

LauraNorder ( great name)😃
Who is one of our loveliest posters? And won’t she mind all the personal info?
There’s a thread running about nice moments if you want to add this to there.

I’m sure our lovely poster won’t mind as she has shared this information many times.
She posted the story of the pink flamingo a long time ago and many of us have used the symbol ever since including the poster herself.
Those on the good morning thread will know her well.

What a lovely opening post Laura Norderr. Pink flamingoes are going to accompany me on my drive to Wales tomorrow, to help me have a safe journey

Today my random moment was feeling the peace and tranquility in the sunshine on my allotment. No-one else was there, just me, the birds and nature

I have those random moments of joy every day, I look for them and if I don`t find them, I will go out of my way to make them

Yesterday, after a not very nice hospital visit for my GD (5y) we then whet to a garden centre for lunch - she bust into tears as we walked inside and said 'happy tears! - look at all the Christmas decorations!' ... it was so sweet both me and my daughter both shed a tear too.

LauraNorderr Sat 25-Oct-25 11:49:43

One of my many is sitting on the sofa with my eighteen year old granddaughter a little while ago when she took hold of my hand and gave it a little squeeze. 🦩
