Clocks go back an hour tonight. ⏰

I’ve just done all ours! I love a clock in every room. Plus we have a garden clock outside our front door. Good job we only live in a small apartment! I’ll do my (several) watches tomorrow. Bit of a faff isn’t it? Lighter mornings now and the nights draw in. I always think I’m not going to like it (I love sunshine, a summer born baby) but I admit I like the cosiness of lamps and drawn curtains around now. Do you?

Sorry if I've not read every message properly but can someone please tell me WHY we change the clocks . My guess is for the working people and school children leaving home early to get to work/school . Yet my memory seems to think its something to do with the farmers/ or wartime Britain .

It was started in the war, to give more hours of daylight to get the work done, to make the country more productive.

I hate it and it takes about a fortnight to get used to.
I get up when I wake, so that’s now 4ish. The cats, dog and I want all our meals an hour before the damned clock says we can. Long before the clock says bedtime I’ve crawled wearily upstairs at the time I went when I was at primary school.

I forgot they were changing.

I woke this morning and checked my watch and thought I was getting up at the usual time. A little later I looked at the bedside clock and it said it was an hour later, and I was really confused - my brain was chugging away trying to work out how it had taken me an hour to clean my teeth. It was only when I checked my watch again it dawned on me that I had overslept and my watch had automatically changed. Duh.

Well, I wouldn't have known either!

Now, just remembered, must check the time difference with Australia!

The time difference where DD is in Oz is 11 hours ahead of us.

I usually try and speak to her at 5pm their time, as that fits in with her preparing their evening meal, but think it will have to move to 6pm, her time, as 6am every week is a bit too early for me.

I've been awake since 5.30 but had had my 8 hours sleep so a long day if I stick to my usual bedtime.
A friend who has had a new smart phone was pleased it preferred to turn itself back.

I’m feeling a bit of an idiot now, as I spent half an hour this morning trying to figure out whether my flight home from holiday was going to land at an earlier time than it said on the travel info after the four hour flight because of the UK clocks going back, although it didn’t say so on the ticket. Who knew that the clocks went back in Greece too last night, as I eventually clicked, so the info was right. Oh dear.

That pleases my inner Virgo tendencies.
Just Googling Virgo characteristics; DGD is Virgo too

"Perfectionist" - that figures!

I’m very grateful that dh does all ours. If our ancient top oven hadn’t recently died, I might have put a rice pudding in for him, but I’m going to need the big oven hot for a roast.

From our verandah - the town clock across the way is set at the right time (one face anyway). That pleases my inner Virgo tendencies.

I like that Maw I’ve just shared it with my sister!

I find I spend today ‘converting’ the time forward in my head! Anyone else. I looked at the clock on the wall in our bedroom for example, saying 8am and immediately thought “it’s 9am”.

Yes Crosstitchfan I knew it was the wee small hours of the morning that the hour goes back. It’s just that I imagine most folk do it before they go to bed.

Goodness, I am a grumpy cow! My responses lately have been snippy on occasion and this isn’t like me! I blame the medication I am on - as it can’t possibly be my fault!🤣
I will also make sure I proof-read more often.
This is the second time I have apologised for my responses and I really must take more care.
Apologies (again) to anyone I might have offended 🫶

Aw that’s ice of you to spot your grumpiness CSF without it being pointed out to you by anyone. A nice change. I did kinda think ‘wow’ but thought best not to respond - and here you are, self regulating and sweet natured once more! ✔️

Good to know that I'm not the only one with a basic Doro 'phone FGT grin.

Kindred spirits Smileless!
I’m not a Luddite. I’ve banked on line for over 20 years etc just that a phone is all I need when I’m out? I use my iPad (like now) when I’m home.

Himself has an up to date Apple phone. He has a “wallet” set up with debit cards etc. and a Ryanair app with (when) boarding passes are needed. It’s just me. I must be used to staff in another life.

GMT all year round would suit me.
3 manual clocks in the house here.
DH doesn't bother with the car clock.
I need to twist the sundial though!

Don’t bother twisting the sundial 🤣- read this!

All my clocks done either by me or automatically. I can now remember how to do the cooker without getting out the book and my car will change on its own after I’ve driven a few miles.

I leave the outside clock on BST for obvious reasons reasons.

Most of our clocks change automatically just the cooker clocks, kitchen clock and a few others to manually do. Actually I’m just realising we have clocks in every room!! I never wear a watch though anymore. My car clock is always a faff I can never remember how to do it!!

Mine too, GrannyIvy, but at least it shows the right time for half the year! 😂

Kalu Sun 26-Oct-25 09:16:14

It doesn’t help when I have a touch of brain fog atm due to strong pain relief meds I looked at my watch which I changed this morning, it was 8.50, a few minutes later I looked at the clock on the kitchen wall and it was 9.55! Completely out of sync today losing track of time. 🤪

Cooker, microwave, kitchen clock and car yet to be changed. I can change the one high on the kitchen wall with a broom handle, the others……eventually.

Don't forget the oven and microwave!! 😀

Just done our ovens & Kent clocks, rest are radio controlled.

I was as ever, confused by the change, had to repeat to myself ‘fall back’ as I found my various clocks as confused as I am. I never bother with the microwave or oven clocks, The electric ones like my iPad, phone and car magically fix themselves. The worst of it though is heading for dark by 4 pm

Franbern Sun 26-Oct-25 08:36:04

I detest this twice yearly clock change. Not the actual changing of the clocks by me (only four I need to do by hand these days), but my body clock.
Seems I am part of a huge majority of people across Europe who feel like this - research in Uk and many other European countries seem to show more than eighty percent would like it stopped.
Totally outdated idea and totally unnecessary - research also shows an increase in road accidents during this first week after the change.
