Oh dear! Never intended using this thread…..message should have gone direct to stilllearning.

Over so many years the list of ‘strong women’ on GN just gets longer. Heartbroken people whose lives we’ve been humbled to share, no complaints, no fuss they (you) just get on with a different life, determined to keep going - and somehow they do.
usedtobeblonde grannysomerset gillgran wishing you the best of days. 😘

gillgran Mon 27-Oct-25 11:59:26

Usedtobeblonde

A new normal we didn’t choose.
What a very apt phrase Grandmafrench and it’s very good to see you again.
We all do have to adapt to a new way of life and how we approach it makes a huge difference to how we cope.
We “sink or swim”
I do know that is easy to say and not easy to carry out but resilience is the key and we read it about it regularly on GN.
Some very brave women walk amongst us.

May I echo the posts from Grandmafrench & Usedtobeblonde,
You've always had a lovely way with words. flowers

That made me smile Aggie, I’d still be tempted to have the biscuits though!

aggie Mon 27-Oct-25 11:25:14

Good morning, i actually overslept this morning
It sunny and blustery now ,I had put a heavier duvet on the bed yesterday , must have been that !
Made up the spare bed for youngest Daughter and her Daughter visiting at the weekend coming
Was about to have a biscuit with my coffee , but a txt popped up inviting me for a blood test on Thursday ! For the prediabetic clinic !
I did a couple of laps of the hall instead 🤣
Hoping for a good day for all

Ilovedogs22 Mon 27-Oct-25 10:55:01

Good morning everyone from the west midlands.
A blustery day here, cloudy but with lovely glimmers of a beautiful pale blue. I harvested my mini-corn and cooked some for a little taste-test. The verdict is....It's vile! For some unknown reason!?
The little cobs looked lovely & were perfectly-formed but they were so horribly earthy & absolutely inedible. I actually spat the abomination out in a rather dramatic fashion, scaring the poor, old dog in the process.
I'll probably stuck with the nice tinned-stuff henceforth!
A peaceful & happy day to you all. I'm off to the compost bin with the crop from Hell. 😶

I was moved to rare tears yesterday. I had just finished re-reading Mrs Gaskell’s “Sylvia’s Lovers” for discussion on Thursday and thought I would see what the Oxford Companion to English Literature had to say about it (not much, the entry is really a plot summary). When I looked at the book’s title page I realised it had been a present from me to DH on his fiftieth birthday.

I was so moved to read your post and my sincere condolences on the loss of your good friend.

But, however strange, it does sound as if hearing her name like that may indeed have broken through some of the feelings of unreality or disbelief you are obviously suffering. Grief has so many forms and stages and we are all different beings who often have to struggle with loss, alone. Talking about her, remembering and weeping - however difficult - may help you a lot just now. And don’t be alone. Share your stories and remember, and be with people if that helps.

Again, I’m so sorry for your loss and sadness. Please be patient with yourself - it will take time for you to adjust to a new normal that you didn’t choose.

Take care.
Hugs to you
GF x

Another good morning from South Lanarkshire, cold but sunny.

Something quite odd happened yesterday. My friend, who died last week, and I, usually watched mass online on a Sunday morning at a church in Maryhill where we both enjoyed the sermon and general feel of the place, and then discussed it on the phone later in the day. I was just struggling a bit with the thought that there would be no afternoon chat when her name was read out in the list of those who had died recently. I was so startled that I burst out crying and it did me so much good, I have no idea who could have given her name in, the church is miles from where we both stay but it has broken the horrible unreal feeling I had and I am grateful for that.

Yoga this morning and a chat and coffee with some of the group afterwords, hopefully a calm day ahead.

Lovely quilt again grandMattie

Wishing everyone the best day possible and especially those needing extra support.

Good morning from sunny Lancashire. MrB was out early to do some shopping, we’re planning to go for a walk once I’m up and dressed.
Hope your DH continues to improve Dragonfly and hope the appointment goes well for the FGT2s.
Beautiful quilt Grandmattie, I’m sure it will be appreciated.

Happy Monday folks, whatever you’re doing 🌹

Kalu Mon 27-Oct-25 08:26:17

Good morning all. Sunny and dry so far, 6deg in Glasgow.

No plans for today one of those take it as it comes day. If the rain stays away until much later I will make a start on filling pots with tulip bulbs.

Brook I like the idea of a secluded winter area in the garden which on a sunny but chilly day I could use the portable fire pit to enjoy being outdoors, Scandinavian style. Now thinking of roast chestnuts too.

Best wishes to all for a good day with positive news for those with worries and struggles.

Jaxjacky Mon 27-Oct-25 08:13:14

Morning from a bright S Hants, warmer than yesterday, forecast dry all day.
Voluntary phone and I’ll try again for tyres, ringing to check before I leave.
Quiz tonight, oven f&c for dinner.
May you all have a pleasant day, I hope the minor improvement become major ones dragonfly
Thoughts with FGT and himself this afternoon.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I have the heating on so forget how cold it is.
I have an arty day in Edinburgh planned. 2 galleries and a film this evening. I may manage to do some house research at Register House in
between.
Yesterday was pottery with my group. I gave away this set of pasta bowls as they all warped in the kiln and are unsaleable. She will use them as plant stands.

Your quilt is lovely gMattie there's no way she won't like it!

I've been asked by the bowl lady to knit her a sweater and I agreed! I was so flattered.
there's an 8 year old in me too Madeleine grin

All the best to FGT and himself.
Also thinking of the Dragonflies

Wrap up well. Take care everyone.

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it 5°C, I was surprised, when I saw the temp, in Polmont, GMB! 😉 I hope you are successful in getting an appointment.

I had both vaccinations yesterday, I was the only patient in the local Health Centre. As usual, they have affected me quite badly, I ache all over and inside my head, there is a wee man with a pneumatic drill.
I was asked to list my drug allergies, which caused both medics to exchange worried glances. I take it you want both, said the young doctor, given your health conditions. Of course I did!!

My young sacristan friend came in for his "flu jag and we took the opportunity to catch up. It was less than twenty four hours, since we had last met.
The staff asked us if we had come in to save money on heating bills, we were there so long. 😂
Ironically, despite fixing the heating timers we have four locations) on Saturday night, one system has broken down again. and we were discussing what the problem could be.

My only plan today is to go down to church, sort out some money and enlarge A4 posters to A3.
Peter Capaldi has kindly donated his first Dr Who script, complete with personal annotations to help raise funds for the restoration fund., We aim to raise £500 by raffling it,
We even have a QR on the posters for donations, how tech savvy are we?

Hoping to hear happier news of Mr Dragonfly and fingers crossed for the FGT's. I am always afraid of missing someone out.
Safe travels to all and hugs for all, who are struggling.💕

merlotgran Mon 27-Oct-25 08:04:39

Good morning from a sunny south coast. I’m feeling better this morning after a 24hr reaction to the ‘flu’ jab with a headache, dry cough and aching all over. All I wanted to do yesterday was drink tea and sleep!
DD is on half term so wants to go to B&Q. I will go along for the ride and check out some electric coal effect fires. The one I inherited when I moved four years ago was already old and is now starting to rattle. Hopefully they make them quieter nowadays. I only kept it because the style really suited my sitting room.
I hope everyone has the best possible day.

Gingster Mon 27-Oct-25 08:01:56

Good morning all . Chilly but bright again here in Essex.

A long old day yesterday with the extra hour. We were in bed by 9.30 😳.

DS, DIL and DGD popped in with a pyracantha. I mention that I’d like one the other day and 🪄✨there it was.

My other DIL phoned me in the afternoon asking how my eye was and chatting about this and that. She’s very reassuring and put my mind at rest on several things that have been bothering me. Calm, sensible and pragmatic.

Today I’m going to Chimes Group. My eye feels ok to go and after 5 days cooped up, ‘🎶 ‘ I want to break free’ 🎶. 🎸.
Poor Dh can do with a bit of space too.

I’ll pop into sainsbury and M and S on the way home to find gluten free goodies for one of my friends who are coming for lunch on Wednesday.

🙏🙏 for FGT’s and Dragonflies

Love to all 🍂

GrandmaC47 Mon 27-Oct-25 07:55:04

Good morning. Ive been logged out for some reason.
Beautiful quilt GrandMattie.
Wishing Dragonfly and Fgt and their dh’s better news today.

Liberty Mon 27-Oct-25 07:54:32

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk which doesn’t feel as chilly as yesterday. We had a delightful time at our soon to leave neighbour’s and enjoyed drinks and nibbles and chatting to others there.

Today a friend is picking me up to go for lunch at the cafe on the local airfield about 6 miles away. It’s a fascinating place, private airfield where you can watch people having flying lessons in light aircraft. My friend loves flying and she and her late husband used to have planes years ago. I prefer 2 feet on the ground!

Hope today is a good one for all especially those hoping for positive news about health issues.

ginny Mon 27-Oct-25 07:47:39

Good morning. It is fairly bright and dry so far here in N. Bucks.
DH is off to golf soon and I have no plans away from the house. I think I may mix up the festive cake and some other baking for the freezer. First a bit of housework.
My foot has gone from pain to ache now but don’t want to overdo it.
Thoughts with all our ill GNs or their family members . Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Beechnut Mon 27-Oct-25 07:44:10

Good morning everyone.
I’m up early for a change and feeling good about it. I’ve been so lazy recently.

I’m just waiting for the washing machine to finish then I’m going out into the garden for a few hours.

Hope all goes well at the hospital today FGT for himself.
Have the best day you can all 🍃🍂

dragonfly46 Mon 27-Oct-25 07:40:09

Good morning, it I raining here at the moment in the East Midlands.
DH still hooked up to all the tubes and drips yesterday but was a fraction better. I am hoping there are no more setbacks.
Dog walking and hospital visiting today. DS is working from home but will come with me to see his dad.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 27-Oct-25 07:31:26

Morning all from a cool West Oxfordshire.

It is our granddaughter’s last day staying with us. Her dad will pick her up after lunch and take her back to Kew. She starts a half term lacrosse course tomorrow.

I think we’ll pop into a Lego workshop this morning! I love Lego. I won’t have time to do the weekly shop so will do it tomorrow.

Our cleaner should come today. I’ve told granddaughter to move all her things off the floor and put them on her bed!

Have a good day everyone. I’m especially thinking of the FGT2S.

brook2704 Mon 27-Oct-25 07:30:20

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve grey clouds and feels quite chilly
It’s a beautiful quilt gMattie thanks for the pictures
I didn’t get out at all yesterday as the weather was so wet but today we’re off out for food shopping and a trip to the garden centre. I usually make a little winter sitting out area in a sheltered spot in the garden so want to get some hardy plants to add some colour and interest.
Safe travels home pantglas, Ash and everyone else on the move today
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

BlueSapphire Mon 27-Oct-25 07:25:11

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton, but feeling chilly, 9°C outside.

Yesterday was mostly spent sewing together my neglected cardigan; the sleeves are in, and the front edges slip-stitched down - I still have to do the side and sleeve seams.
I then decided to sort out my wool stash and patterns, which involved clearing out the glory hole that is the cupboard under the stairs. (The cats had a field day!) Quite a lot of stuff ended up in the bin, or at best, the garage for storage.

DS and DGD2 then dropped by with her school trousers which need a hem repair.

A quiet evening followed watching the lovely opera programme on BBC4, followed by Mortimer and Whitehouse go Fishing.

Yoga this morning, then bathroom cleaning, and then hope to complete my cardigan after lunch.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Aldom Mon 27-Oct-25 07:23:25

Good morning Mick and everyone.
Only three more sleeps in my current home. I'm surrounded by a mountain of boxes, packed and ready for the removal men. They just have to pack the breakables.
A couple of neighbours are coming for a 'goodbye' coffee this morning. Later I'm having lunch out with a friend.
Thinking of all with worry, sadness or pain.
