It's not clear why the stove suddenly exploded. It had not been lit for a long time - I wonder if it had accumulated dust?

I have had one from Imaginfires for 10 years. Love it. Warms my very large living room and makes it cosy.

We stayed in an apartment in the Alps which had one an open type one rather than a stove (it was Glamm fires) and the heat would put you out of the room!

Very useful info here. I was thinking of replacing our wood burning stove with an ethanol one as we are going to have to make our chimney higher (thatched roof!) in order to get house insurance. Will bite the expensive bullet and get the chimney done now. I like a LOT of warmth!

I've got a small table top bio fuel fire that I use on my balcony in the evening. It uses a litre of fuel in a couple of hours which is far from cheap and it doesn't give off a great amount of heat. I can only imagine it would be very very expensive to heat a room, not at all economical.

AuntieE

We had one of the type that more resembles an old fashioned paraffin stove on board our boat and were very happy with it.

It gave off a good heat and no smell of burning fuel.

The store where you buy the stove should have specifications telling you how large a room they heat and to which temperature.

There’s no place nearby that sells them, to look at. Some info online. They say approx 2-3 kw, nothing like the heat of a wood burner.

DD has recently replaced their electric coal effect fire with one. Quite frankly I would be disappointed if it were mine but they seem happy with it.
The flame reminds me of a fire which hasn’t quite got going. It’s not a cosy looking fire IMO but I would never say so.
I have no idea how the cost of the fuel compares with electricity.

Does anyone have a bio ethanol stove? We’ve just moved house and can’t have a wood burner here. Do the bio ethanol ones heat a small room, or are they more for the look? Looking at something like this -
