Good Morning Everyone ,
Its dark but the ground is moist here in Brackley .
My usual routine with a bus trip to Bicester , and return to visit the local chippy for Fish & Chips .
Digital phone working OK ,clearer voice than landline .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning from a bright and mild Suffolk after the gloriously sunny day yesterday. The weather for half term has been better than was predicted and everywhere around here has been very busy.
I’m off to London for the weekend til Monday to meet up with my 4 very dear old school friends. We met when we all started grammar school in September 1957 and have been friends ever since. Because we all live in different parts of the country we saw less of one another when are children were growing up but now meet up at least 2 and usually 3 times a year for a few days.
We are going on a ‘Behind the scenes’ tour at the Royal Opera House on Sunday which we are all looking forward to but the majority of our time together is spent chatting and laughing…..a real tonic and much valued.
I hope all have a good weekend and I’ll catch up with your doings on Tuesday.
Morning Mick, morning All from a damp looking corner of Somerset. Showers forecast daily for the next week.
A busy bobbing about day yesterday had its frustrations, we got to the you have to laugh stage.
Admin with my name on it this morning. I’ll go slowly, little sleep isn’t good for creaky thought processes . Not sure whether to do a grocery top up today or tomorrow. See how it all goes. A friend. (the daughter of the recently deceased couple) is coming for the day on Sunday, I’ll be in search of relatively healthy treats if there are such things. She’s very fitness oriented, enters triathlons, best if I don’t sabotage her.
Mind that gap karmalady
. Safe travels sar. Good luck with the GP grandmab. Those biscuits are super bellasnana. Best wishes for your move aldom.
Thinking of the mountaineers. Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from a damp W Kent. A shopping day today and that’s about it. We are both unsettled by the clock change last week and feel very lazy. Art group was interesting yesterday as the lady who runs it is moving. She isn’t going far but is 84 and insists she will be driving backwards and forwards. We have decided to start later to help but I am not sure how it will work out.
Best wishes to all
Morning all from West Oxfordshire.
Yesterday’s book group was fun. I’ve finally persuaded someone in the group to read The First Circle by Solzhenitsyn. One of my favourite books - the others in my top three are Pride and Prejudice and Remains of the Day.
OH went to see his bees for a final tine this year. On Sunday we are going to a Car Boot Sale with about 60 jars of honey to sell.
We are popping out to lunch today to a pub in a nearby village. Afterwards we’ll drive into Oxford where we’ll look for paper Chinese lanterns for the lounge.
We have admin to do too. We need to complete an online application for free congestion charge passes for driving into Oxford. We’ve also decided to cash in one of our insurance policies. It’s our Golden Wedding next year and we might have an extra special holiday.
Have a good day everyone. Thinking of the FGT2S and others who are going through harrowing times.
Good morning all from North Leicestershire where it is misty but not cold.
Dd2 and Co will leave after breakfast and then DH and I want to go to see an art exhibition in the local museum.
Then a but sit down. A Nigel Slater pork recipe for dinner.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning from the Essex coast. It's dry at the moment but the forecast is for rain later.
I'm going to stay with DD2 and family in Kent for a long weekend, getting the train about 10.30. It will be good to see the girls.
Bellasnana I love the cakes.
Enjoy your day everyone, best wishes to all xx
Good morning all and I’m earlier than usual as the plumber is coming to service the boiler. I had to make sure the heating hadn’t come on. The thermostat thingy is so complicated to adjust. 🤯. It’s probably just me being dim but Dh can’t seem to do these things now 😥.
I love the pic of the little witch Peli 🧙♀️.
Dd took DGD to a pumpkin farm where they have lots of things for the children to do, craft, marshmallow toasting, treasure hunts etc. DGD went as Miss Penny Wize.
Lovely day out but ,gee wizz , these places charge a small ransom these days.
Today we’ll meet our Friday pals for a catch-up .
Those cakes and cookies are beautiful Bellasnanna what a clever daughter you have.🌟.
Take care all and have a good day 🍂🎃
Susan I hope your dgd is better soon.
Good morning from Shropshire.
We didn’t get to Liverpool yesterday as DGD didn’t seem very well so we shopped and had lunch locally.Luckily we did as she went downhill rapidly in the afternoon🤒
Today DH and I are going to drive over to Ludlow. We have been wanting to visit since Pantglas mentioned going there earlier in the year.
Beautiful cakes and biscuits Bellasnana.
Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a cold, breezy morning in North Yorkshire. Can see the outline of the tree, but closed the curtains again as there is such a chill breeze coming through. Up to now have been using a fleece blanket to wrap round so as not to have the heating on, but just have to accept that I must put the radiators on now, as it is too cold to sit up without them. Also my aches and pains are worse in the cold, and cannot move briskly to get warm these days!! Have had a wretched night , little sleep, and both my back and my right leg ached and nagged at me all night. If I had had a big enough knife last night I felt like just cutting my stupid leg off!! If it is not going to work and let me move faster, at least it wouldnt be there to add more pain!! Oh well, by the time I am able to move about and go and sit in my shower, warm water will help and when I have heard my Bach and had my coffee I might be less of a grump! Sorry to be such a moaner, but thanks GN for being here and allowing me to whinge to you and get it out of the system.
Lots of halloween decorations and well done shop windows, which does bring a bit of cheer to the high street, but I shall not be doing anything with pumpkins neither eating them , nor decorating them! I hope that the children enjoy making things and dressing up, but have to say , whilst I can see the fun , going to friends and grannies etc to show off their costumes, if they go with an adult, I think it is totally mad that we spend our time as parents and teachers warning children never to accept sweets from strangers or visit strangers houses, yet we are happy to let them go totally against these rules and go round , totally unsupervised, knocking on who knows whose doors and accepting sweets and sometimes money for fireworks etc etc. They get something positive out of something that they have been warned about, so who knows how this lets them behave? If they then meet someone in the street or in public and remember the face and that they gave them sweets, they will no longer see them as a stranger, and not think of this important rule. I hope that I am not being a spoilsport and I do think it is very good for children to speak to many adults and become happy to take part in any sort of meetings and occasions but surely safety is the most important thing, that we need to reinforce. Well sorry if I sound like a female Victor Meldrew, but it does concern me.
I am looking forward to bonfire night as I love the fireworks, especially the wonderful star bursts . However I dont like the big bangs which seem to have got louder over the past few years, which I think is unnecesary . Today am going to see a friend who has a dog, who is very frightened of the fireworks, and the problem is that whereas if there was the one night to deal with they could cope with that , but they are having irresponsible people letting off fireworks over the past few nights so the poor dog is very scared, and also with their higher hearing levels, hears more than humans, and there is very little you can do , but be with them, put the radio on to mask some of the sounds and just be there for them. It is a pity that they cannot have a law, where fireworks could not be bought before the week of the bonfire night. Responsible people would still get their fireworks and obviously could order and pay for them to be collected at the right time, and it would help to stop stupid people causing upsets and taking risks with unsupervised fireworks. I do not really want fireworks to be only allowed at big set ups, but do want things to be safer. Dear me I am being quite a misery this morning!
Well, hopefully today, I can get out in the car if I am not up to walking far . I want to enjoy the autumn leaves before the wind swirls them all off. I also intend to go to Thirsk to admire the wonderful work of the Yarnbombers with marvellous rememberance poppies and lovely tops of bollards knitted tops. They manage to be both respectful of the occasion and wonderful to admire their great efforts . Some are so intricate I wonder how they even devised the patterns to make such clever things. Lovely to admire such things and I do tell people how worthwhile they are to look at , and know that many people do visit to see them, which also brings in some trade for the shops and the cafes in the town. So today will have to be looking from the car for most of it, must remember to put my binoculars in, as they allow me to look closer at the things, but I used to enjoy walking round and looking at all of the many clever scenes. However I shall enjoy as much as I am able to look at and also award myself a coffee in Cafe Nero, so this will be an enjoyable trip to look forward to, and to encourage me to make the effort to get going soon.
Mick, hope you enjoy both your trip and your fish and chips. Great that your phone is working better than the old one. GrandMattie, good that someone has got onto the MP. Perhaps you could write out a time line, from the first time there was something going wrong and you informed the agent. If you can show the lengths you have all had to go through and the trouble you have had to take it will add weight to the situation and who knows maybe some sort of compensation (although I wouldnt hold my breath on that one) Karmalady you have my sympathies. I also have a pull out thing which is in need of sorting, but so far have managed to ignore it with thoughts of things that are more important, but the day cometh!
Well I am very cold, and too near the window, so time to stir my stumps and get into the shower and start the day properly. Wishing everyone a good day, and the chance to do something nice, whether that is curl up with a book and coffee, or meet friends or be with Mick and go for the fish and chips - which is increasingly seeming like a very good idea to me for today!!
Good morning from a damp and drizzly Black Country.
A 3 mile through our country park yesterday with the walking group, then coffee and chat in the cafe. Luckily it didn't rain until the afternoon.
Today I am meeting my daughter as she is treating me to Afternoon Tea. My belated birthday present from her. So no lunch today, and will be starving by 2pm
A warm welcome to WhiteSwan63
Wishing you all the best day possible.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s cloudy and looks a bit damp out. Yesterday was a lovely sunny day. I had my back X-ray in the morning, no results yet obviously, but my achy back didn’t enjoy being forced to lay flat on the X-ray table. I had hoped to plant the last of the bulbs into pots, but decided it might be too much for me. Hoping to do it today.
I think a showery day is forecast.
karma be careful! I always wanted one of those pull out larders, but not so sure now!
bellasnana I love the cakes and biscuits! Your daughter is a very talented lady.
Thoughts as ever with those who are climbing mountains at the moment.
Have as good a day as is possible for you all.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and looks like its been raining
Take care Karma we don’t want you getting stuck
I’m off to the gym today, an aerobics class then a FitSteps dance class. There’s time in between for a quick coffee with pals - that’s one of the best bits for me
Beautiful baking bellasnanna what a talented daughter you have!
Hoping the GP appt goes well grandmabatty
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and damp, although the Bbc weather insists it's dry. Bellasnana gorgeous biscuits! Enjoy your day with the boys. Karma you made me laugh too. White swan welcome to you. GrandMattie enjoy the parkin. I'm not sure I've ever eaten parkin.
Yesterday was a pottering about day and resting. I did some washing and housework and slept. Dgs2 was at hospital and was told he probably won't need an operation, however dd got a phonecall last night to say he needs more x-rays today to be sure. I had a chiropodist appointment first thing which always makes my feet tender so I didn't sleep well. I was up at one o'clock watching a documentary about Liza Minelli.
Today I have a doctor's appointment at ten. I'm hoping he will give me something for my eye infection which is still making me look like a goldfish. Afterwards I will sort Halloween bags in case I have any wee visitors. I'm hoping dd brings the boys. Have a good day all.
Good morning from a still dark S E Essex
Bellasnana your DD2 is very talented, I love them all!
Off to the gym first thing, then I shall be pottering. Out for dinner this evening at our local Malaysian restaurant.
(((Hugs))) 🙋♀️
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a rather gloomy South Yorkshire where I doubt we will see the sun today. Yesterday was lovely; a nice walk in the woods on a route we haven’t taken before but the ground is heavily carpeted with fallen leaves which means that tree roots and other hazards are not so easily seen. We had coffee afterwards at the Woodland coffee stop where the proprietor was dressed as Dracula! I had lunch with DD and then a couple of hours with my niece on the way home.
A quiet day today - some shopping and I shall make a curry.
Have the best day you can folks.
“If I am not on here tomorrow, I will still be kneeling on the floor with my head well and truly stuck in the gap”
That’s my laugh-out-loud 😂 for today Karma, thank you!
Good morning all from a dull, cold dreich day here on the east coast of Fife. I’m off to my local community club today and when I come home I’m going to be making lentil soup it’s my favourite , if I’ve time I’ll make mushroom soup as well. Those frozen onions from Sainsburys are delicious vand saves my carer from crying while chopping up carrots I’ve fresh carrots they’ll get grated - it’s really a piece of cake making lentil soup. I’ll freeze some for later.
Have a good day my friends don’t do anything I wouldn’t do 🤣🤣
Bellasnana, love them all, the Noah’s ark ones are so sweet.what a clever lady! Enjoy the little dog’s company…
A hurried good morning from Malta where a high of 28°C is forecast with clouds and possibly rain. We didn’t get the promised thundery showers yesterday.
I’m waiting for the boys to be dropped off by their daddy as DD3 has Parents Day today (she’s a teacher) so there’s no school for the boys today.
I will have to take them with me for my hairdo but they usually behave!
Later I will be having their little dog and the canary for a few days whilst the family goes off to Sicily for half term.
I’m looking forward to the company!
DD2 (in the USA) has made some lovely cookies and a cake for a Halloween themed baby shower, thought some of you might like to see them as well as the sweetest set of Noah’s Ark cookies for a birthday party. She has such patience (unlike her mum).
Wishing a good day to all. ☀️
Good morning from s somerset, showers, cloudy sky and cold E wind today
Today I am going to be on a mission to try and sort my pull- out larder, which I dislike. It only pulls out 8 inches and I cannot see what is in there. I am going to completely empty it and first job will be to check that the runners are not blocked and that the screws are still fixed in place, I am hoping that it is something simple. I will have to poke my head in and use a torch
If I am not on here tomorrow, I will still be kneeling on the floor with my head well and truly stuck in the gap
Sock knitting later again with a nice warm fire. Meals are sorted, kitchen tidy but this larder job is going to bug me
Have a good day
Good morning everyone from the East Coast. We are forecast a mild breezy day today.
I think I may go to the gym later this morning. We were supposed to be meeting friends at a tearoom today but we are free now tomorrow so they are coming to us and we will cook a hot buffet instead. I will do an hour in the gym later this morning. My DH goes to the gym to socialise but I like my music through my headphones and off I go preferably speaking to no one so I can get on with it. DH says I’m unsociable. I’m not.
Tonight being Halloween I have a big bowl of lollies ready to give out. We live on a busy road so I will be up and down like a yo-yo answering the door but I love to see their costumes and excited faces. My 7 year old DGD came skipping through the door yesterday excitedly showing her new dangly ghost earrings her mummy had just bought her. She opened a lolly took a lick and declared it Yuk and I looked and it was a caramel pumpkin flavour. I had bought Halloween themed lollies so they are different flavours. Oh dear.
Anyway hope everyone finds some sparks of joy today. Thinking of those who are struggling. 💐🎃 x
Good morning Mick and Peli - what a lovely picture for Halloween!
A trot out today to Abakan’s with a friend for a rifle through their fabrics and some lunch later 😋 - looking for some fat quarters to make new cushion covers for the conservatory- dratted 🌞 fades them so quickly!
How awful Harrigran to return to their nest and find such a mess - coming home from a holiday is such a joy for me, I know I’d struggle to enjoy further breaks because I’d be fretting what I’d find on my return🤯
Hope everything goes smoothly with the house move Aldom and you feel at home instantly in your forever abode 🤗
Hope weather and happenstance is kind to all this weekend x
Good morning from a damp hillside in south Glos, it’s chilly too.
I didn’t sleep well, no idea why 🤷🏼♀️. My sleep patterns have gone to pot recently, just one of those things I guess!
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours emptying my wardrobes and filling three bags (so far) for the charity shop. There will be more 👏 I have far too many clothes that don’t get warn.
I had the last of a series of journalling Zoom classes yesterday evening, I’ve really enjoyed them.
Today I have art group, looking forward to seeing everyone there, I don’t know what I will take to do but there’s plenty to choose from in my stash!
Chicken in cider sauce for dinner, mashed potatoes I think and green beans, DH can sort out cooking the potatoes.
An early dog walk with tiddler, I will probably take her to the village for a change of scenery.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹
