If you could only do one walk.

We are currently away for our annual walking trip in the Lakes.

The weather is a bit mixed but today is looking good.

Yesterday we did Easedale Tarn from Grasmere, not my favourite walk.

I was allowed to choose today’s walk for the four of us.

I think it’s going to be Tarn How’s from Hawkshead, looking down on the Tarn with the Autumn colours takes my breath away.

If you could only do one walk where would it be?

Well for a walk with the travel we have a beautiful water meadows and a railway walk right at the end of the road. But Bamford edge in the Peak District with Views of Ladybower Reservoir is a favorite when traveling a bit further. . Sutton Bank looking across the vale of York to the Dales.

It would be Gt Gable from Wasdale Head every time. I am sure I lost gold from my wedding ring coming back down the scree route! I wouldn't come back down that route again tho!

I use to walk miles & miles. I would love to just be able to walk to my mums 2 miles away & back, without relying on my car.
I admire people that do these walks, I just can’t anymore.

Easdale,I used that walk to introduce people to the Lakes. Loved it.

Grimwith reservoir in Yorkshire, close to Bolton Abbey, 5 mile circular and so peaceful

Across the South Beach at Tenby towards Giltar Point with a beautiful view of Caldey Island across the water. Bliss....it lifts my spirits every time whatever the weather...my breath caught in my throat recently when I realised I had less time ahead of me than behind to walk this special beach.

The walk around Caldey Island itself is beautiful too.

Let us know whether you did Tarn How from Hawkshead. We've thought about it several times but not got around to it - yet.

Goathland to Gromont in Yorkshire with my late husband,

Whenever we did the walk up to Tarn How we did it via Tom Gill, parking at Glen Mary.? I think it was called, car park.
I remember a little waterfall and it could be wet.
It is now many years ago but to see it in Autumn with the changing colours is spectacular.

Over Rodborough Common overlooking Stroud in the Cotswolds. Beautiful and so many happy memories!!

The walk from Aber village (North Wales) up to Aber Falls. A family favourite we used to do regularly when our children were younger, while staying with an Aunt who lived in Aber.

The coffin route from Ambleside to Grasmere is gorgeous. We also love the walk up to Castlerigg Stone Circle from Keswick. Not forgetting Cat Bells from Derwentwater. Looking forward to our next visit to the Lake District next month.

I just adore the walk around Buttermere. Towering over is Fleetwith Pike which is another favourite walk of mine in the lakes Enjoy your stay and I hope the weather is kind.

Hi I am in the Lakes, too. I attempted to drive to Honister this morning but had to turn back as the road near Lodore Falls hotel was flooded :-(. How about the Buttermere loop which is the most beautiful walk. Helvellyn is straightforward (linear) if you take the route from Swirls car park. Catbells of course. With the weather being so bad today, did a straightforward walk to Walla Crag from Keswick.

Yes, I tackled Fleetwith Pike a couple of years ago from Gatescarth. Quite a challenge with some scary scrambling! Once at the summit, walked on and did Haystacks and then down to Gatesgarth farm. I was pleased to have done this solo (68 yrs). Absolutely adore the LD and return here each year. Enjoy the remainder of your trip,Sago

The Seven Sisters in East Sussex. I just love coastal walking and the cliffs are so beautiful.

Sago Mon 03-Nov-25 20:54:24

Yes we did Hawkshead to Tarn Hows yesterday, I posted a photo on a previous post.
It’s an easy walk, there is a sweet little Baptist Chapel with a community garden and a loo at Hawkshead Hill, always worth a stop.
Roughly 3 hours there and back.

The North Norfolk coastal path for me - I love to see all the migrating birds, the huge skeins of geese and the wide open skies.

JPB123 Mon 03-Nov-25 22:10:28

Buttermere circular walk ,then finish at the Fish or the Bridge for a drink

Camino de Santiago (across the north of Spain) - always wanted to do that. I daydream and wonder I could do it on a mobility scooter :-) I'm sure I could but enough charging points along the way could be tricky.

The walk from Puerto Calero to Playa Quemeda in Lanzarote. Over the cliffs on rough terrain from a typical tourist resort to a small Canarian fishing village with fish freshly caught served in a handful of eating establishments. We loved this walk but since my husband’s ill health we know we cannot do it again.

Similar - Puerto Del Carmen to Puerto Calero and back.

Thank you all.

I have loved reading about all your walks, I have done a number of the ones mentioned, Buttermere crops up a lot, I love that walk.

We go to stay at our apartment in Ripon for a few days on Thursday so weather permitting we will be out again, I think the shawl Leyburn up to Castle Bolton via Wensley and of course the 7 bridges Fountains Abbey will be on the agenda, recommendation’s always welcome.

I thank the Lord for the ability to be able to hike.
For those not so mobile to remember the beautiful walks and the company you shared is so precious.

Finally to the poster who sent me a nasty private message regarding the spelling of a Welsh Mountain, it was not my post and how you could go through such a gentle non contentious thread looking for fault then send such a horrible message?

Shame on you.

Purplepixie Wed 12-Nov-25 15:23:06

I would walk to the bottom of my childhood garden and sit and talk to mam and dad.

I’m so sorry you had a nasty message. You should report them. Take care.

Sago Wed 12-Nov-25 19:50:04

Purplepixie I messaged them back yesterday pointing out the error and the rudeness.
As I did not receive an apology I reported them a few minutes ago.
The poster concerned is very acerbic.
He/she needs to be put back in their box.

It’s lovely to hear you would sit and talk to your parents.

I would feel I had achieved a lot if one of our children said the same.
