Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but dry start here in Brackley at the moment .
The usual routine for me with the bus trip to Bicester to shop and chat to those who know me.
Health OK ,
Take Care,
Mick

Good Morning, bit late on parade ! It’s a nice autumn day here , I was expecting rain so didn’t do the washing,
Yesterday was full on , the Audiologist checked out my aids , tuned on up at my insistence, it feels a lot better
Then lunch out , as someone said , helpings too big !
Off to our local chain shop and got 8 sets of pj / leisure wear , a traditional gift for grandchildren, even those in their 20s 😆
Next to trawl TK MAX , another successful job done
I got a great card for daughter moving house , but it seems to have gon missing
We called in at the garden center where I stayed in the car , I was exhausted!, plants were loaded into the boot , helibores I think , and some sweet pea seeds to get started
So I was early to bed and late up !
It was morning when I started typing !
Hoping for good outcomes for those with appointments

Grey skies and mood today so will embark on some cupboard sorting once Wonderful Cleaner has finished working her magic - if I feel low tackling some small domestic chaos feels like harnessing the feeling and turning it into something useful. Not really a day for outdoors, certainly.

A late Good Morning from a bright, but damp Durham. I’m chancing drying some laundry outside. My sincere thanks go to Marydoll and FGT yesterday. I intended to PM both, but the time got away from me.
I’m convinced I did too much at the weekend, my cold was improving, as was my back, but today I seem back to square one. DD1 is recovered from Covid and at work - trying not to get too active before her MRI later this month. DD2, also now recovered from Covid is WFH and ‘seems’ to have secured a courtesy car from somewhere - not an ideal model, but at least she’s mobile again.
I had very long calls from my BF, who is down in Cambridge for 17 days looking after her DD’s house and animals, then a call from a young relation of hers, going through a messy and downright vicious divorce. In addition my hyperchondriac friend is ‘at it again’ and has a couple of emergency appointments at our local hospital today. I went to bed drained and exhausted last night.

Wishing the birthday girls and holiday makers a good day. Hope those feeling poorly and their carers have a better day.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from a damp northwest coast. Another quiet day yesterday but useful. I’m doing bits of housework in stages rather than in one big go and it’s working.
In the evening I started watching Hard Times from 1977 on YouTube and it’s very good.

This afternoon to the music club, so a warble before that.
Birthday greetings Greyduster and thoughts to all 🌺

Good morning all from a dull but dry day here on the east coast of Fife. My gardener is coming today to mow the lawn and prune all the bushes and a general tidy up. Due to the high winds the leaves have fallen off my cherry tree. My carer will be in around 9 to help me get up I’ll have cereal for breakfast with fresh orange juice there’s no bread but I’ve ordered rolls and bread from my local Ramzams shop, they’ll deliver very soon.
Have a good day be safe and smile 😊

harrigran Tue 04-Nov-25 08:42:29

Good morning from a slowly brightening NE.
The weather is very mild for this time of year.
Another quiet day for me sorting paperwork in the study, mostly old utility bills for our second home that we sold 5 years ago.
I too have been filmed Marydoll, my surgeon filmed my parastomal hernia repair to use for teaching purposes.
Happy Birthday Greyduster.
Thoughts are with poorly people and their carers.

Good morning everyone from a very grey and damp Northampton, with showers expected all day.

Apart from yoga, a quiet day yesterday. I investigated the Premium Bonds website and also used their internet chat to find out that I cannot buy bonds as an 18th birthday gift for my grand-daughter. In fact you cannot buy them as a gift for any adult unless you have POA for them or Court of Protection powers. Having then consulted DS, I will now put a cheque in her birthday card, so that she can buy them for herself. Disappointing...

Carried on knitting my stuffed cat, and as I am now using two colours for the face, entails a lengthy stop every couple of rows to untangle the wool!

I may or may not venture out to join my walking group after lunch, depending on the weather. I really feel like staying in and knitting again!

Happy birthday Greyduster! 🍰🎁🎉🍾

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning from N. Bucks where it is dry but dull although the sun does keep trying to peek through.
My Sister in Law should have been coming to stay for a few days but we have had to change plans. My Nephew has finally got a long awaited appointment , over two days, and she needs to be with him.
So, different plans to be made. We may , after DH has been to Table tennis, go to MK and search for curtains and cushions. There is also a shop that sells things like vases and other decorative items.
Choir practice this evening which is always fun.
DD 3 and family are safely back home after their holiday. I love that they are able to travel but happier when they are back where they belong.
Happy birthdays and anniversaries to those celebrating.
Healing thoughts to all who are poorly or worried. A good day wished for all with a smile along the way.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I think it might be damp out there but I’m still in bed so haven’t looked yet!

I got quite a lot done yesterday including ordering a second pair of long distance glasses. My right eye has been a bit droopy recently so I mentioned it to one of the staff at Specsavers. She could see what I meant and suggested making an appointment with an optician if it is no better in a couple of weeks. Eek!

I will visit some friends after lunch. One of our group, who is in his late 80s is very seriously ill with pneumonia and being treated at home.

Have a good day everyone. Best wishes and thoughts to all of those with difficulties. I am afraid there are too many to list and I’d hate to miss anyone out, but I will mention the little grandson with the broken arm.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's really mild and the wind has settled. I like this time of year.
I think my cold is getting better.

I spent yesterday afternoon in the garden firing pottery the Raku method. There were 3 of us who are preparing for an exhibition next
weekend.

Afterwards I changed out of my clothes which smell of wood smoke and caught the fast bus into Edinburgh for a concert of amateur choirs at the Usher Hall. (Love Music)
The junior choir stole the show.

Enjoy your anniversary meal Jax
Congratulations 🎊 🍾 🥂

Happy birthday Greyduster I hope there'll be cake 🎂

I agree, the film Edie was truly inspirational Karmalady

Snap Marydoll my nose features in a dermatology guide for medical students.... the surgeon made a good job of removing my BCC 😅

Hoping today goes well for everyone.

I’m glad your weekend away was lovely with your special pals Liberty .

I’ve done the back stage tour of the ROH. It’s amazing isn’t it.

Gingster Tue 04-Nov-25 07:57:00

Good morning and it’s dry here in Essex.

Yesterday’s U3A monthly meeting was well attended. It always is. The speaker was a chap from the BBC. We’ve had him before but I think age is creeping up on his and he was very ‘waffley’ and went on for nearly 1hr and a half. Far too long.

As soon as he’d finished, my friend and I escaped out the back way, before all the notices were read.

As my friend said ‘oh well, I suppose it was better than sitting indoors on my own’. 🥹. The traffic driving home was dreadful, taking nearly half an hour instead of 10 minutes. I have the same route today for Bridge Club! Oh well!

Dd and DGD popped in after school for a cuppa and chat .dd has strained herself and the side of her ribs is very painful. 😥.

Happy birthday greyduster.💐.
Progress for your dh dragonfly . 🙏
Lovely that you enjoy the fireworks Madeleine. I love them too but only from my window. When we are at our seaside cottage the display is over the sea and is magical.

I hope everyone enjoys the day in some way.
Take care 🍂

Liberty Tue 04-Nov-25 07:52:04

Good morning from a dull Suffolk after 5 minutes of sun which has just disappeared.

I had a wonderful time in London over the weekend with my dear school friends. Laughter, great tenderness to one another, loveless food and a really interesting backstage tour at the Royal Opera House.

We all now know how the Christmas tree grows so magically in that ‘Aah’ moment in the Nutcracker.

I’m about to read all your posts whilst DH makes a second cup,of tea. Hope all are well and have a good day. I’m off for a pedicure later this morning and then home to read a large volume of papers for tomorrow’s all day meeting. It is in person so I shall need to leave at about 7.30am. I’ll catch up with your news on my return in the early evening.

brook2704 Tue 04-Nov-25 07:33:02

Good morning Mick and all GN's up and about on a still very dark tuesday morning in North Yorkshire. I can just about see the outline of the tree and pleased to see a breeze rustling through the tree. I have washing at the ready to peg out, as soon as there is enough light to see to peg it!! So been a bit of a struggle this morning, as both back and knees were not in the best of humour. However the joys of the shower do help, and I plan to get the washing out asap, when I can see the line!! Plenty of jobs to get sorted today, but the promise is that this am it will be dry and probably rain later, so need to make the most of the dry bit.

Not sure what I am planning to do today. Partly see how well I am walking about a bit later. Need to have a cupboard check, and decide what if anything I need from the shops, call at the bank and check accounts but also more checking of dd's and standing orders to a) see what is correctly going out and b) if there is anything else that can be queried or cancelled to be up to date and organised. This afternoon, if the weather is poor, I even feel prepared to go through some of my files, checking that I am up to date with things, and also plan to check my passport and so forth to see if it is still in date if I go off anywhere. Dont need to have to have a mad dash to the passport place if something comes up. Also look at the picture in the passport. You have to change it every 10 years and they can fine you if you dont, but doing it on line as they already have a photo, tends not to remind you it is due for a change. Not sure , but think the driving license also has a similar rule. So I know that the police are doing a sweep round here stopping drivers and checking eyesight, ability to read a number plate etc., so dont want to give them any other thing to be able to complain about.

I am hoping that the weather will stay dry for tomorrow. I do love fireworks and hopefully I can see one or two displays. The local one is usually good and then I see there are a few close by on the weekend, so with a bit of luck I can get to one or two of those too. Not at all keen on loud music with fireworks, rather hear the whizz of the actual fireworks myself. I might even go mad and buy a packet of sparklers to write my name in the sky, which was a family tradition and makes me think of years so long ago and my sister and I getting excited about doing it. Ah well we shall see how things go. The local department store unveiled its christmas window last night, but I didnt get to see it , so looking forward to seeing what they have done this year. As a small child living in the East Riding, going to Hull with my mother at this time of year was to go to Hammonds the big department store in those days. Wonderful windows , very worth looking at , in those days. Dont know if they are even still there, but that was the start of the christmas season to us. I am looking forward to looking at more poems in my new book, so if the weather is rubbish this afternoon, I think a cup of coffee sitting in my chair with blanket wrapped round me to keep warm and radio 3 and looking through my Zephaniah poems is going to be a good answer to wet or chilly weather and not annoy the bad back. This evening will be going to the games night as usual. Saw a game when I was in Durham but at aover £30 it was out of my price range at the moment, especially as I had lashed out on my books, so it will be looking through charity shops in hopes of finding something there. Anyway my brain will get a shake up and I will need to be on the ball tonight, simply to remember all the rules never mind hoping to win. Well there is a little more light now and I can see the branches moving in the breeze, so hopeful for my washing to get dry at least this morning.

Mick , hope you have a good trip and meet friends today. GrandMattie hope today goes smoothly for you, and you get a bit of a rest after all the dragon fighting etc. Time to put your feet up and have a bit of a rest. Hope that the temporary manager has the sense to listen to you and use your local knowledge to end up with a better system than previously . Good luck with that! Karmalady, hope your plumber has got the elusive piece and has arrived even now to fix the problem. It is very sad you lost that parcel. I havent sent a large parcel for so long, not even sure that my system works. I used to think it was worth sending recorded delivery. It kept an eye on where the parcel was, you got a receipt to say someone had signed for it, so any stroppy firms could not say that they had not received it etc. But so sad when some precious things go awal, as it doesnt matter if you can buy another item. That is not the point, it is the sentimental attachment that counts. Thanks for the info about Edie, it sounds as though that is a film worth watching. Have made a note of the title, and will watch out for it. A very happy birthday Greyduster, hope you are able to enjoy some celebration whether that is meeting a friend or enjoying a treat or two with your coffee. Dragonfly, good news that your DH is back in a ward again. Its a start at least on the road to recovery.

Well the daylight beckons now and time to unsheath the mighty yellow peril and make my way to the washing line, so hope that you all have a successful day and can be satisfied that some planned task has actually been accomplished.

Redcar Tue 04-Nov-25 07:20:02

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dry but cloudy and very mild - 14 degrees on the garden thermometer. I went for a walk yesterday morning then spent the next two hours sorting out admin for my godmother’s estate. I had to go out again in the afternoon to post lots of paperwork back to the solicitor dealing with the estate. Too much to email it. I hope it gets there ok. A friend called round for a coffee and chat later in the afternoon.

The tree surgeon is coming this morning to trim back my silver birch tree. When I planted it we had fields at the end of our garden, now there’s a housing estate, so I can’t just let the tree grow too tall.

I’m pleased that your dgs2 is doing well grandmabatty and I hope he enjoys his soup at lunch time.
dragonfly it’s good that your DH is moving to a ward now but worrying that progress is so slow.
Happy Birthday greyduster what an exciting day you have planned! flowers

Have the best day possible everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 04-Nov-25 07:17:05

Well done on securing your Christmas Slot 👏👏👏👏

I ordered cleaning products, beer and champagne to second my Waitrose shop back in September. I only hope I remain to go back and amend it to what I actually need 😹😹😹

Marydoll Tue 04-Nov-25 07:06:12

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 12°C and showery. I used to be one of the posters, who posted right after Mick, but as time has gone one, I've been later and later. ( I started this at 5.45am)

I'm only up at this time to get my Tesco Christmas delivery slot. Supermarkets at Christmas are not a place I wish to be. I spent most of last Christmas, ill in bed, I am too vulnerable to be in crowds.

I would like to announce that you are in the presence of a poster girl. I have always wanted to be famous.
Last night, I received a phone call from a dentist at the dental hospital. (He had voice I could fall in love with! I bet he had perfect teeth into the bargain 😁.)
He was seeking permission to use photos of the lesions on my mouth on a poster, alerting clinicians to the side effects of my R.A medication.
Two other patients have experienced the same, rare side effects and a case study is being written.
I knew my mouth would eventually be famous.🤣

I explained how grateful I was and that I owed the Oral Medicine Consultant and Registrar a huge debt of gratitude, for their diligence and insistence on writing to my GP, urging him to investigate my severe weight loss.
My intention was to write and thank them, if it hadn't been for their expertise and diligence, my condition would have continued to deteriorate. I will be forever in their debt.
The dental surgeon urged me to do so, saying that patients rarely do this.

Yesterday, I was working away and went into the presbytery, where the money counters were. The door was closed, but I could hear my name being mentioned.
I knocked very loudly to alert them, I was there. They asked why I was knocking. I explained it was in case they were complaining about my nagging. 😉
.They started laughing, saying they had been wondering, where I hadn't appeared to interfere , because they had a problem and I could probably resolve it.
I always enjoy my Monday morning banter with them. It always lifts my spirits.

I have a restoration fundraising committee meeting tonight and I need to go down earlier and put on the heating. For some reason the heating in our tearoom will only work manually, the timer isn't working. I don't know how many times, I have alerted the P.P, but he forgets five minutes later.
We have a new minute secretary, heaven help us. Instead of using one word, she will use a dozen. If I make an error in the rotas, I am bombarded with emails and texts, which are always signed with a kiss.😂 Talk about being passive agressive ^
The rest of the parishioners just laugh, knowing I am spinning too many plates in the air, combined with a brain full of mush, it is a recipe for disaster.

Later, I am off to Sainsbury's for my usual Tuesday small shop . I spend more time in the TU section, than in the food one.😉
That will leave me exhausted, so the afternoon will be spent resting. I have found a great Turkish TV series and I am hooked! Sheer escapism.
I am quite annoyed at my feebleness and finding it difficult to adapt.

Yesterday, I managed to arrange the Sacristans' Christmas Rotas, within minutes. A first indeed. Everyone was so co-operative. It looked as if I was going to have to cover Midnight Mass on my own, but my good friend, said he would come and help. After over thirty years of doing it, I am no longer up to doing it on my own and being alone at 1am in a deserted church on Christmas morning is a bit scary!

Today, I will finish off the parishioners' rotas for the next seven weeks, including Christmas. It is a logistical nightmare. I really need a computer program to factor in all the variables. 😂
However, on contacting everyone yesterday, to give advance warning, I did receive some lovely messages, thanking me for all I do. 💕

My best wishes for those in the sick bay and all who are struggling. Have a pleasant day folks.

P,S. I got the Tesco slot I wanted! 🎉

grandMattie Tue 04-Nov-25 07:01:08

Parking is NOT limited - no other shops around.

grandMattie Tue 04-Nov-25 07:00:22

No the parking at Tesco is limited.
The reason i5 takes so long door to door is that my neighbour’s friend paid goes to fetch her friend, who is rarely ready, on the other side of our area, then doubling back to go to Tesco!
Then there is 10 minutes chat before getting out of the car - they see each other almost every day, ditto telephone. It is all very wearing, but convenient as I don’t have to lug heavy shopping around.

Kalu Tue 04-Nov-25 06:56:16

Good morning all. A calmer start to the day in Glasgow after such a stormy one yesterday.

My first foray of dealing with HMRC with the assistance of my accountant has finally come to a successful outcome just when I had reached the point of wondering what more information can they possibly require…a blood sample? Sheesh. All done at a snails pace until a rare rapid response was given, amount of payment due! More forms to fill in today for an ADT house alarm upgrade. Apart from that the day is my own to do as I please, hopefully a walk if we have a dry spell.

Happy Birthday Greyduster and many happy returns of the day which sounds such a fun day. 😄 A meal with family sounds perfect. 🎂🥂.

Best wishes to all for a good day.
