Good luck Alice and I hope this forum proves that us 'oldies' are not always the perceived typical stereo type and we can and do still enjoy life. It would be lovely to hear later how you got on with your A level results.

Would you like to share with us the set books you have to study? I took A Level English Literature in 1968! However, perhaps yours is the English Language course with wasn't an option in my day.
Good luck with your studies!

Hi Alice, I am really interested that you are studying our forum for A level. Under what topic heading does it come?

M0nica Wed 05-Nov-25 14:13:20

By now you will have realised how diverse we are, age, background and life experience. There is no stereotype old person than there is young or middle aged person.

I would like to know why this site was recommended for part of ALevel study?

NotSpaghetti Wed 05-Nov-25 15:07:22

I've just had a look, Oreo and A level English in the "major" boards seem to have a component where you study a forum.

It seems to come under "student choice"
Analysing the language, for example:

- An investigation into the use of linguistic features (e.g., politeness strategies, slang) in a specific hobbyist online forum (e.g. gaming, fashion, or A-Level support).

-Investigating how users construct their identities (or online personae) through their language use.

...I think it might be useful.

Thanks NotSpaghetti for finding the reason.

Oreo Wed 05-Nov-25 16:33:23

We are a fascinating lot on here, it’s true 😁

NotSpaghetti Thu 06-Nov-25 01:42:47

I can't promise this is the reason Oreo but it looks likely.

Maybe the OP will come back (after she's studied us!).

Reported as spam (we don't like spam on this forum, Alice, it just takes up space and it is hardly ever for anything we want to buy/read/subscribe to.)

Is this a genuine thread ? all seems a bit suspect to me ??
I ll answer when I know a bit more about Alice

Hi Alice! What would a teenager hope to learn from this forum, I wonder?

NotSpaghetti Mon 01-Dec-25 14:13:05

Please read back Molly - some of us have written about this...
