My GP surgery sent me a message to say they are now on Facebook and Tiktok and also that they were having a Halloween cake sale. We can't get through for an appointment though as they are too busy to answer the phones.

Change your GP! I wouldn’t put up with that.

I use the NHS app too, but if I try to make an appointment via this app, I’m told very firmly that I can’t do it online, I have to telephone them - and you know that’s like!

My GP practice doesn't sell any products . I have never heard of a practice that does. I use the NHS app to order my repeat prescription,blood tests ,letters from consultants appear on there before I get either a telephone call or letter.

I can email my neurologists secretary to get an appointment did just that on Friday told her it wasn't urgent and expect it will be next year less than 2 hours later had email with appointment and confirmation letter yesterday.

If I need a face to face appointment or phone consultation that day I can get one . If I get cellulitis or UTI because had both before just phone and ask the receptionist for a prescription. Then have to phone back few hours later and they have always sent prescription for antibiotics to the pharmacy I use .
I can't go to the pharmacy to be prescribed them because I am 67 and to old . But can't remember the age they can prescribe up to .🤦

Grandmatteour surgery has its own website and you can book an appointment at 8 in the morning stating whether it’s urgent or not if deemed urgent you get a same day appointment (not necessarily with your own gp) or a phone call off the duty doctor If non urgent (just routine) they will give you a future appointment you can also send a photo ie maybe a insect bite or a wound that hasn’t healed a lump or swelling etc
It works very well and frees up the phone line for those who can’t use computers etc

Whiff your surgery sounds the same as mine I thought they would all be using this method which is very efficient

It's owned by iPLATO Healthcare Ltd and is a contractor for digital services for some NHS services.
In mid-2021 it was awarded a central NHS contract, £3.5 million that now allows all GPs in England to access its platform - two others, eConsult and EMIS, were awarded similar contracts.

I read that iPLATO’s share of the "primary care virtual care market" in the UK is between 30%-40%.

Whiff you are in a lucky postcode as things are so different for most of us since Covid, its a very long drawn our process to get an appointment and many just give up as its so difficult. If you gave a computer thats it and several of older neighbours don't.

It was definitely the legitimate my GP app. It is the one we all used here to order prescriptions etc before the NHS app started.

Our GP offers Patchs for making appointments online and it’s worked really well for us. Send in details of the problem from 8am and they ring or text back very quickly, with a same day appointment if they assess it as needing one. Getting through by phone’s another matter, so it does seem that there’s a two tier system and patients that aren’t able to use the online system will miss out. But if more people used the technology it would free up the phone lines.

As of October 1st all surgeries are required to keep their online booking systems open during working hours. The new system frees up phone lines and means the majority of patients will be seen (either face to face, phone or online) within a week at the most. There should be no need for the 8am phone scramble any longer.

Our surgery has had the system in place since September and never had to wait more than one day for an appointment. It works very efficiently.

I was under the impression that the GMC contract has strict rules about the sale of goods by GP surgeries and the sale of health supplements via GP surgeries is banned.
