Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

Mollygo Mon 22-Dec-25 04:50:33

2.30, rescued Christmas cards from dog’s teeth. Banged my wrist on the bannister whilst doing it.
The pain is keeping me awake despite paracetamol. DH has just made a cup of tea and suggests we do a crossword.

grandMattie Mon 22-Dec-25 04:13:08

Oh my goodness!. I whinge about not sleeping but at least I manage between 4 and 5 hours, and usually a postprandial nap.
JandJ33, please don’t fret, all will be well. Your guests should be glad you’ve done all the heavy lifting. Just stop worrying and enjoy yourself.
A fractured night, I thought I’d left those behind. Ah well.
I had a very busy evening, picking up the pieces for the person organising the mulled wine and mince pies after the Carol service last night. People were getting under my feet, while I was trying to fill jugs with warm wine, etc. I had said I wasn’t staying to tidy up, and escaped round the back before getting sucked in.
I hope you lot manage to have a little more sleep.

I still haven't got to sleep. I only had 4 hours sleep the night before so I was hoping I'd be tired enough to sleep but ....... Just wrapped a small Christmas present. I'm going to try and find a meditation recording online and see if that helps me go to sleep!

Esmay Mon 22-Dec-25 03:46:12

Hope that you had a very happy birthday roses and I'm so sorry to hear your sad news butterandjam.
Went to our Nine Lessons service at church ,but I felt awful . It was a beautiful service .
My head is aching and my throat is sore .
I'm coughing ,shivering and feverish .
It doesn't bode well for Christmas .

JamesandJon33 Mon 22-Dec-25 02:30:04

I ‘ve been awake since twelve. The next few day are going to be busy so that’s all been going round in my head. Will I have enough room in the oven…what shall I make first. Etc. etc. DH has just gone to make some tea. Perhaps I’ll sleep after that…or in all probability need the bathroom. Hey Ho!

JamesandJon33 Sun 21-Dec-25 05:58:32

Roses have a lovely birthday💐
And for those of you asbutterandjam with troubles this Christmas, love and hope for a touch of brightness.
I slept until 4:30, which is acceptable. Up to DDs this morning, for a hair cut. Then home to put up some Christmas lights. Family due on Wednesday and all very nearl ready.

cornergran Sun 21-Dec-25 05:28:17

That’s hard butterandjam. Christmas has a way of heightening these things.

It seems I’ve a fairly minor upset tum. Suspect it was the (fortunate!) trigger for waking. I feel cold now, soon be warm again now I’m back in bed. Mr C is sleeping soundly and I don’t want to risk waking him by heading for some tea. A positive of bungalow living is having the kitchen and kettle just a few steps away. The downside is the process of making a hot drink in our kitchen which is open to the central hall can disturb slumber.

Happy birthday to you roses. No matter the shape of the day I hope it’s one you can enjoy.

HelterSkelter1 Sun 21-Dec-25 05:25:39

Sorry you are having such a sad time butterandjam.

I will look out for the Susan Hill books you recommend. Thank you.

RosesandLilac Sun 21-Dec-25 05:20:04

Sending you a hug butterandjam, a very difficult time for you x

RosesandLilac Sun 21-Dec-25 05:19:02

grandMattie my twin sisters’ birthday is the 23rd December so joint birthday parties and joint birthday/Christmas presents too.
I made very sure that our DCs birthdays weren’t anywhere near Christmas!
DH’s family have most of their birthdays in November, it used to be a horribly expensive time of the year but we no longer buy presents for everyone. My mother and grandmother had December birthdays too.

butterandjam Sun 21-Dec-25 05:18:00

Thanks GM. Helterskelter, have you read Susan Hill's series about a cop called Serrailler? (recommend to read them in order of publication as his backgroun is an ongoing saga)

Doodledog Sun 21-Dec-25 05:15:21

Sorry to hear that, * butterandjam*. These things are always hard, but worse at Christmas.

grandMattie Sun 21-Dec-25 05:12:30

I’m so sorry, butterandjam. These things are hideous and so painful. I hope that you can work your way through soon. 🫂

HelterSkelter1 Sun 21-Dec-25 05:11:50

HappyBirthday Roses. I hope your DS and family arrive.

My birthday is in February and usually very cold, icy and often snowy when I was a child. I always envied friends with summer birthdays and parties in the garden.

Nannytopsy Sun 21-Dec-25 05:11:02

Happy Birthday Roses. I hope your family makes it. Hip has woken me, as usual. I have has about 4 hours sleep. DGC arriving at about 8.30 to cover the gap between Mum going to work and Dad getting home. We can find jobs for them! It means I can’t make up sleep by getting up late.

butterandjam Sun 21-Dec-25 05:09:45

hello both.
I was busy writing a post/talking to myself then deleted it. Short version; in the past month two very longterm friends from youth days died and my favourite cousin has had a catastrophic brain event with rapid deterioration , non survivable, now slowly and painfully going through the horrible consequences of body shutting down, she is on her way out. For her sake I hope this can't last long. Gloom and sadness keeping me awake.

Tomorrow; I have to write back to friend whose wife just died, they married same summer as us, 56 years ago.

If it's fine I'll go to my allotment and take it out on weeds. If it's wet, I am half way through bingeing series 1 of the Night |Manager, so will carry on. New series due at new year.

Doodledog Sun 21-Dec-25 05:08:28

Happy birthday RosesandLilac. I’ve been awake for a while too, and didn’t get to sleep until after 1.00am. I’m so tired but sleep won’t come, and there’s so much to do.

grandMattie Sun 21-Dec-25 05:06:04

Happy birthday, roses.
My birthday is around Easter and very often fall during Lent! That’s my annoyance.
The other thing is that my elder sister’s birthday is 4 days earlier. I had to share birthday parties etc.. When older, I was dreadfully hurt by my mother actually asking me when my birthday was!

RosesandLilac Sun 21-Dec-25 05:04:43

Thank you BlueBelle 🙏

BlueBelle Sun 21-Dec-25 05:01:40

Happy birthday Rosesandlilac I hope you have a lovely day

RosesandLilac Sun 21-Dec-25 04:50:15

Hi everyone, I’ve been awake for an hour or so but at least I had a good sleep until then.
My birthday today, I always felt cheated being born on the shortest day 🙄😁
I’m still unsure if DS and family are going to get here so no plans to do much at this point. Roast lamb for dinner 😋
It’s not raining for once and apparently none forecast for a few days!
I’m reading The Women by Kristen Hannah and really enjoying it! I have a stack of unfinished books on my bedside table.

grandMattie Sun 21-Dec-25 04:48:56

No probs, corner.
I lie there persuading myself I’ll go back to sleep, sometimes I do other times not. If I’ve got a good book though, I can’t wait to plunge back into it… 🤨

Wyllow3 Sun 21-Dec-25 04:42:10

I've woken up after a really grim dream so up trying to shake it off! (on a bad event in my life) Hot milk here atm.

HelterSkelter1 Sun 21-Dec-25 04:38:08

I am awake as well. I woke earlier at about 12 and stayed awake till about 1.30. I am warm and have water so I won't make a drink yet.

Shortest day and the astronomical start of winter. That surprised me as I thought winter started at the end of November. Always feels like it.

I read Lanterns in the Snow by Susan Hill at bedtime which was recommended as a book for Christmas on GNet. A very sweet story especially as it was by Susan Hill known for ghostlier ones.
Back to .the Forsyte Saga now and hopefullyzzzzzzzz.

BlueBelle Sun 21-Dec-25 04:31:57

Morning all, I m here too. Feel I ve had a good night to get to 4 a m that’s a whole hour later than signing in time 🤣
I m warm and cosy and will play a few games online and maybe have another doze
Nothing much to do today, I really dislike days with no plans at all, I like to know I am doing a b or c even if they change or even if they are vague. I am not a spontaneous person
Are you ?
