Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

cornergran Sun 21-Dec-25 04:17:43

Sorry grandmattie. Not ignoring you. Crossed posts.

cornergran Sun 21-Dec-25 04:15:54

I’m awake, butterandjam, after a couple of nights with much more sleep. I’m not fretting, there are three books from the library waiting on my iPad. Nothing taxing, all light reading. An easy enough day ahead, a friend coming for coffee and that’s about it other than putting a paella together and installing lights on the table top Christmas tree we bought a couple of days ago. I’ll be of to begin a book once I’m sure I won’t drift back to sleep.

grandMattie Sun 21-Dec-25 04:14:55

And it’s the winter solstice - the irony is that us non-sleepers have not one but two”longest/ darkest nights”. More daylight coming; apparently it averages 1 minute per day.
A Christmas Carol service this evening, accompanied by mulled wine and mince pies. I’m helping to serve, etc., but have refused to help tidying up as it’ll be too late for me. I’m one of the oldest, so can leave it to the youngsters. What a difference 10 years make at that end of life!

grandMattie Sun 21-Dec-25 04:08:12

Wrong! I’m here too…

butterandjam Sun 21-Dec-25 03:54:09

nobody up but me?

fancyflowers Sat 20-Dec-25 10:07:38

I'm up, but didn't sleep until 5 this morning. I've taken my morning tablets and I'm going back to bed soon.

J52 Sat 20-Dec-25 08:33:54

Good morning. I’ve missed the 3 am crew recently as I’ve had a run of good nights. There’s no rhyme or reason why. Hope everyone has a good day.

I was watching funny videos of babies laughing yesterday including one tiny redheaded boy who just loved cheese. They were lovely. Guess what? I dreamt about laughing babies and cheese. The opposite of a nightmare. I woke up in a good mood.

I wonder if having vivid dreams runs in families .
My mother had nightmares throughout her life and they used to make her depressed and upset the next day .
I have them occasionally when something is on my mind .
At the moment I'm concerned about the appalling conflicts in my family and I'm having day and nightmares over them .
No bad dreams last night though .
My son had night terrors until he was 13 and then , they stopped .

JamesandJon33 Sat 20-Dec-25 07:03:56

Morning all, 5:30 today so not so bad.

Salti Sat 20-Dec-25 05:49:07

Good morning fellow insomniacs. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. I've had about 4 hours sleep and have been awake for nearly an hour.

It's warm and cosy under my duvet but I think that I might grab an oversized fleece snd head for the kitchen to make coffee as I can't see me getting any more sleep tonight. Four hours sleep is about average for me.

BlueBelle Sat 20-Dec-25 05:04:30

Hi everyone I ve had a really good night about midnight till 4.45 that ll do me I m so cosy so now going to play some word games and do my daily suduko
Just food shopping today but its lovely to get out and about just been to the loo and had a peep out the curtains and it looks dry so that’s a bonus I usually walk through to Asda which is a quarter of an hour walk each way but I m going to catch the bus today to Morrisons and Aldi they are near each other and they ve just opened a small Sainsbury’s next to them !!! I ve never been in a Sainsbury s and it’s not in my plans for today either (no one seems very excited by it)

The dreaming business is interesting I used to always dream every night, now only occassionally I don’t think I dream in colour although I don’t think I dream in black and white either but I guess I d remember something outstanding if I did dream in colour wouldn't I ?

I hope you all have a lovely manageable day

grandMattie Sat 20-Dec-25 04:18:24

Been awake an hour. It’s odd, I had a busy morning, but spent the afternoon and evening quietly, had a longish nap after lune.

I always have a book on the go . DH was very surprised when we first married, to find out that reading, for me, as as necessary as breathing!

Right! I’m just about to have my first hot drink. I shan’t get up for another couple of hours.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 20-Dec-25 04:06:29

Here I am again, been awake a couple of hours.
I went out for a meal last night and had a couple of alcoholic drinks so didn’t take an antihistamine but did get to sleep fairly quickly however the usual 2/3 hours and I was wide awake .
I’ve read for a while, had some water and now wondering what to do next.
I can’t be bothered to get a hot drink as I feel warm and comfortable.
I’m out again this evening with a friend so need to relax during the day so I can enjoy it .
Hope others are sleeping peacefully.

Shirleyw Sat 20-Dec-25 03:32:28

I don’t know if I dream in colour, I don’t dream too much , not as far as I remember LOL….havent had a nightmare for years luckily.
Taking the car to garage at 8, a clonking sound when driving along…
Have a good weekend, think weather be dry today…🎅🏻

ClicketyClick Sat 20-Dec-25 03:24:39

I dream in colour but not tonight. Not been able to get any sleep since going bed at 11pm. Just got up to make a hot chocolate and try to stop my brain whirling round about a meeting with DS estranged from DH

RosesandLilac Sat 20-Dec-25 03:08:33

Grrrh!! Yet to get any sleep at all! Utterly ridiculous, no idea why, I’ve tried absolutely everything over the last 5 hours.
My mind just won’t shut up and I very much doubt I’ll get much for the next couple either as I’ll be on the airbed in my craft room. It’s perfectly comfortable but DS and family are coming I hope; DS messaged that he’s getting over a virus so plans may change…… In which case I have done a big shop in vain- at least I won’t need to do another before January!
I think I dream in colour 😊

Aveline Fri 19-Dec-25 10:04:41

Maybe!

BlueBelle Fri 19-Dec-25 07:50:48

Good morning Mabel nice of you to join us

Aveline Fri 19-Dec-25 07:30:12

Mabel??? Where did she come from!

Aveline Fri 19-Dec-25 07:29:41

I was awake at 2 after eventually dropping off at 11.30ish. I fell back to a very light sleep.
I do have very vivid dreams. They're not in full natural colour but seem in fairly subdued shades. Mabel that's how I know I'm dreaming?

JamesandJon33 Fri 19-Dec-25 06:46:00

I dream in vivid colour. I’m often in the same place…an ornate palace with connecting rooms, but with different people each time.
Didn’t go back to sleep, so have been awake since just after 2

BlueBelle Fri 19-Dec-25 06:21:22

How strange I don’t know if I dream in colour or not
I don’t dream much or can’t remember them so much as I used to
Not a lot to do today probably have a look round the shops though we haven’t got many left, aren’t the empty shop windows depressing
It was cold, wet, dark and windy yesterday and I can’t wait for spring to start springing
Hope everyone has had a reasonable sleep

cornergran Fri 19-Dec-25 05:50:16

I’ve slept for six hours, wonderful. I rarely dream or perhaps more accurately recall dreams, when I do they are usually in colour. Thankfully I’ve never been troubled by nightmares long may that last 🤞.

grandMattie Fri 19-Dec-25 05:17:22

Yes, jandj33, I dream in colour, usually the oddest thing - like having to climb over a kennel of savage Dobermans to get to a party I didn’t want to attend…. Occasionally, it’s a nightmare.

I’m sorry your nights are bad again, utbb. Could you have your pills 3very night? People with allergies do, so it may not be harmful - or try out 1/2 pill 2-3 times a week?

Got a very busy baking day, making 6 dozen mince pies for the 9 lessons and carols on Sunday.

Have a restful day.
