Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

Erica23 Mon 08-Dec-25 07:24:17

Sara. I think I need to give this a go there’s so much online about it too it’s hard to ignore, I’m just worried about it upsetting my stomach, maybe just half a dose to start.

Nurseundercover, I take magnesium every night, it doesn’t seem to help me sleep, but what I find it does do, is take the panic out of it, I used to be so stressed and worried that I was going to be awake almost the whole night, and sometimes I was, but now I feel calmer about it, just get up for an hour or so.

Despite doing little yesterday, weather awful, I fell asleep after Strictly and didn’t wake up till 10.45, slept till 2.00, got up till 3.30, and really didn’t want to get up at 5.45

Erica23 Mon 08-Dec-25 06:00:22

Another bad night here DH loves coffee but unfortunately his bladder cant cope, he only had one decaf yesterday and he’s been up four times. Each time it took me an hour to get back to sleep, gave up at 5am. Anyone else have this problem?
Anyway I’ll stop moaning now, oh the joys of getting older. It’s a cleaning day today, and I might put the Christmas tree up.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 08-Dec-25 05:44:37

Good morning, a much less disturbed night for me.
I am feeling better from my cold and had a more normal day yesterday.
I didn’t come up until after 8 and probably settled after 9:30, still woke perhaps twice but went back quite quickly, wide awake now though.
It feels milder again, a very wet weekend here.

mum2three Mon 08-Dec-25 05:07:53

My main concern about being up early is that my energy will have petered out when it's time to get on with normal things.

grandMattie Mon 08-Dec-25 05:04:43

I felt very unwell yesterday and spent the day dozing. I took my 1/2 antihistamine to sleep all night. I’ve only just woken up. I shall be well rested for @ rather frantic day with no time for a postprandial nap.
nurseundercover, I was amused at the name you give your crumble thing. For many years now, I have made a jam with these three fruit which is called “High Dumpsie Dearie” jam. I found the recipe in a 1952 WI booklet.

Have been awake for a while now with an over active mind, thoughts churning away. I'll have to listen to something and switch off.

Esmay Mon 08-Dec-25 04:45:06

Woke up around four .
I vaguely watched The Chelsea Detective and had a hot chocolate.
I 've loaded and put the dish washer on and I've hung my washing on the airer .
I don't know if I'll get back to sleep.
I was rather inactive yesterday-went to church and had a lift home with a friend.
We had a long chat .
I've had a headache for three days and I rested all afternoon.

Good morning I ve had a good night Midnight to now 4 30 is good going for me so I ll do a few games on my iPad then
cuddle down and I might get a few more zzzzz s in .
Hope you’re all ok

cornergran Mon 08-Dec-25 03:59:48

It’s been an on and off sleep night, the iPad is in night mode and I’m going to relax with a book. It feels a bit of a treat somehow as I’d been persevering with resisting turning it on and reading. It made little difference overall so back to enjoying being awake. I will make a cuppa soon, thankfully Mr C can sleep for the world and I rarely disturb him. I’ll probably doze again for an hour or two. Thank you all for your company.

Shirleyw Mon 08-Dec-25 03:29:46

Morning all….thats a good idea nankate, I tend to read ‘physical ‘books…when I drop off reading it I invariably lose the page 😂…atm .I’m reading ‘the white Queen’ by Philippa Gregory
Hope I get in a bit more sleep as meeting a friend in London for the day.

Greenfinch Mon 08-Dec-25 03:19:40

Just reported a spam post. Will now try Wordle and then read for a while.

JamesandJon33 Mon 08-Dec-25 02:28:54

Woke up seemingly doing a crossword in my head. Brain spinning now so will play some solitaire on my kindle for a while, then try for sleep again. Sounds quiet out.

Mollygo Mon 08-Dec-25 02:25:10

Woke up urgently needing . . . to put the dishwasher on! No idea why that woke me up. There wasn’t enough in it to warrant putting it on so we were leaving it till later today. I didn’t realise that until I got downstairs. So now I’m drinking tea and writing this. Hopefully I’ll drop off soon.

BlueBelle Sun 07-Dec-25 20:38:05

Happy sleeping everyone see you in the morning (hopefully) but probably in the wee small hours 🤗

Redcar Sun 07-Dec-25 20:29:51

I’m often awake from 3.00 until 4.00 when I get up and have a warm drink and a biscuit. I can usually go back to sleep afterwards, but didn’t this morning! Hopefully tonight will better!

NanKate Sun 07-Dec-25 20:21:40

I read my Kindle at night and my son has put it on a dark setting for me with words in white and it is easy to read. I will attach a photo.

YesLets Sun 07-Dec-25 19:12:16

If I wake around 4 as I did last night it takes 2 hours + to get back to sleep no matter what I try.
Brain going like a funfair. Is that because I don’t have time during the day to sort out problems?
I try to persuade myself that I’m not awake for about 40 mins then give in and make a cup of Sleep tea.
If that doesn’t work I have to read a book rather than Kindle as I hear that blue light is not good.
Brandy in hot milk with honey is a last resort but if I can fall asleep around 6 I can have an hour before time to start the day.
I can manage a day or two with little sleep but am really not as sharp as I should be.

StoneofDestiny Sun 07-Dec-25 17:45:14

When I wake I leave my husband to his unbroken sleep, do wordle and connections and read my book - I then fall asleep again. A good book light helps so I can read while he snoozes.

Mary59nana Sun 07-Dec-25 16:58:39

Im awake from 1am till 4am sometimes later it feels so lonely
In the small hours
Thank goodness for LBC on my Alexa feels like I have a many good conversations to listen too

NanKate Sun 07-Dec-25 16:36:34

Polnan I think we must be twins when it comes to disturbed nights. 😏

polnan Sun 07-Dec-25 16:13:39

Nurseundercover o.k. I have no idea what gummies are, I guess a kind of sweet? so may I ask, why you chose gummies and not the tablets? Reading on the web I have seen that perhaps Magnesium which contains, Citrate, Glycinate and Malate are the tablets to try? anyone tried these?

and Greciangirl I don`t have a drink before bed, and do not drink during the night, but still my bladder wakes me telling me I need to go to the loo, approx every 2 hours,, 3 hours is an amazing rest.. a goodnight sleep is when I go back to sleep each time, a bad night is when I lie awake for hours,, usually, 3 a.m. ish onwards, and waking at 5 ish! and not back to sleep is not good for me.

Greciangirl Sun 07-Dec-25 15:06:51

I’m wondering after reading these posts from grans who have to visit the loo several times a night.
If that is the case, why drink anything before bedtime and also during the night. It’s quite obvious. Isn’t it?

Fortunately, I don’t have to get up during the night and I deliberately don’t have a bedtime drink either.

BlueBelle Sun 07-Dec-25 14:48:26

You are correct it is not normal to have 8 hours solid sleep Grannyipad it seems to be a modern trend and everyone thinks it’s some kind of illness if they don’t get a full 7/8 hours If you go back to Stone Age man they used to sleep in batches so they could make sure the fires didn’t go out
Once we allow ourselves to accept the wake time it becomes far less of a problem if I lived with central heating I d get up and do a job or two but as it is I just play games on the computer

And yes it helps to have a little chat and know you’re not alone while the rest of the world snores

Nurseundercover Sun 07-Dec-25 14:18:42

So pleased to note that there is this thread, and know I’m not the only one. My insomnia has only occurred since retiring, despite keeping myself busy during the day. I did join a mindfulness class to see if that would help with the busy brain overnight, but I’m afraid the brain noise was too much of a match and overcame all my attempts to listen and concentrate on my breathing rhythm.
On top of that I have restless legs and nocturia. Now I surrender and get up get the washing done while it’s cheap rate electricity, if there is such a thing.
Although this morning at 04.00hrs I made an autumnal trinity oat crumble with pears, apples and plums.
I have also sent for some magnesium glycinate gummies to try, not sure if they will work, nothing ventured nothing gained. Wishing you all a wonderful day whatever you are doing x
