Michael Rosen is having difficulty in trying to replace his London Freedom Pass.

Kirsty Allsop says that people who use free travel passes and are rich enough not to need them are "bankrupting the country."

We have a utility room as do all our children..

Not everyone has a house big enough for a utility room though sad.

Yes.

We have friends that put the Mir washing machine and tumble dryer in the airing cupboard when the hot water tank was removed and replaced by a combi boiler.

I wonder if those posters being so very rude about MA, including her weight would say those things to her face?

It is very easy to agree or disagree with someone/something without resorting to rudeness and insults 🤷‍♀️

As Kirstie Allsop's parents are a Lady and a Baron. She probably rarely uses public transport.

And has a chauffeur/driver on hand. And rumour has it. On some occasions in carried around on a sedan chair.

Apart from anything else it's a useful piece of ID when voting...

Allira you are missing the point. I am not suggesting that the benefits stop but those who do not need them should not claim them

Absolutely

Its an American thing they all have laundry rooms in their homes and can’t understand why us Brits don't…they think its very unhygienic ..

Not just in America, I think washing machines in kitchens are rare in many countries.

*I never could stand her. Fat, smug and bossy* (Witzend)

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this discussion, that’s a distinctly irrelevant and rude comment……

Oh for goodness sake, why can no-one can say anything they think these days.

Allira Wed 19-Nov-25 17:09:01

Yes, why did she pick out one person, who is much older than her, to criticise?

She could have said she wouldn't be applying for her bus pass when eligible, State Pension, using the NHS etc but I suppose then she'd be accused of virtue signalling.

I remember the spats about Alan Sugar's bus pass 😀

Doodledog Wed 19-Nov-25 16:40:11

Why does it matter whether he is well off or not? He has a bus pass based on his age, not his income. If KA wanted to complain about people getting buss passes she could have done so more generally, instead of making it personal and singling out MR.

Michael Rosen travels all over the country visiting schools for free . He does this because so many have enjoyed his books and he is a staunch supporter of children's literacy . He very much deserves to travel on a free bus pass .
Kirsty Allsop could have made her point without using him as an example . I'm afraid she found herself with very little support and she continues to dig an ever bigger hole for herself . She is of course entitled to her opinion , it's one I don't share where Michael Rosen is concerned . He is one of life's givers as for Ms Allsop , it's best I keep my opinion of her to myself .

Umm. The incident you refer to happened 6-years ago. The flight crew accuser was an ex Love Island participant.

However, irrespective of
that, your own personal comments about KA are pretty abhorrent.

Quote from earlier post:
I read somewhere not too long ago that on a BA flight, IIRC long haul, she ventured from economy into the Club or first class cabin, and was asked by the stewardess to return to her own section.

Her response, so I was told, was ‘Don’t you know who I am?’

End of quote.

I have done a little checking and it seems as if there is no solid evidence for this and I imagine she has enough money not to travel economy anyway. I do not warm to her but think it important to check for evidence especially where a story reflects badly on someone.

KA can only guess at MR's income or what he choses to do with it. Perhaps, if he is very well off; perhaps not. Maybe he supports good causes.
The assumptions people make are frequently wrong and based on their own view of the world.

It'll be a black day when this site doesn't allow people to say that people are fat. I'm fat. It's my choice.

She has a point, more and more OAP freebies are being means tested.

The Freedom Pass means many of us can get about a lot more than we otherwise would. In the end that helps keep commerce's wheels turning and allows older and poorer people to be socially active. Those who really are rich enough to pay for all their journeys aren't likely to make much use of public transport anyway. They'll be getting about by car, cab and Uber! Having a Freedom Pass but not bothering to use it costs nothing to the nation.

GoldenAge Wed 19-Nov-25 15:46:35

I totally disagree with KA, she made an uninformed statement but she was expressing a political opinion, which one can still do that in this country I believe. As the possessor of a London Freedom Pass when I lived there, I considered I'd paid for it in many, many ways including via Council Tax, and I would happily take issue with her or anyone else on her viewpoint.

However, I wouldn't do so in a personally insulting way - not sure why this site allows posters to be so rude as to describe someone with whom they don't agree as 'fat' - not on really is it?

Neilspurgeon0 Wed 19-Nov-25 15:29:57

Years ago Alan Coren did a fascinating radio show using his Freedom Card to travel around London on buses with various other ‘old cronies’ to show how useful it could be.

I think the pensioners bus pass, usable certainly all over England, I live on mine, is one of the great freedoms of being old. Why on earth should not Michael Rosen, a genuine ‘national treasure’ who probably has done more for Britain in the last ten years than anyone, not own and use his freedom pass? Ludicrous woman, too up herself for words and, as someone up thread said, probably trying to flog something,

What is the feminine form of W⚓️?

It annoys me that people like her and also J K Rowling feel the need to comment on things that really are nothing to do with them. Why do they see themselves as some sort of guru, commenting on how other people live? I was never very keen on her but now I would avoid watching anything with her in. In my opinion if someone has a bus pass they have obviously paid into the system long enough to earn it. It keeps cars off the road and is one of the few perks for pensioners that is still useful.

What has J K Rowling done that offends you? Surely not her founding Lumos an international charity for children, or Beira's Place the centre for women who've been subjected to sexual violence that she fully funds from her own money? Should she really not comment on them, she was a victim of domestic violence herself?
