I think there is a huge argument for pensioners who can afford to paying their way.

Am afraid bus passes in England are only given at pensionable age, so I believe that right now a person has to be 66 or 67.

I’m conflicted on using services for free for which you can afford to pay.

Bus passes are issued to all over 60 applicants in Wales and it’s been my mission to use mine wherever possible after 43 years of driving everywhere. I don’t just use mine when out for a Ladies wot Wine but whenever I’m popping into town with a few hours to spare.

Here in the backwaters of Wales, services will be cut if they’re not fully utilised and I believe that my, and others, usage keeps that frequency going.

Everyone of retirement age is entitled to a bus pass and Winter fuel payment. It is not means tested. Some people of a more wealthier disposition do however decline them.

The WFP is payed to everyone once again after this governments U turn but those earning over £35,000 pa will have it recovered via their taxes.

Re oldies’ Freedom Passes anyway, especially within London, they must keep an awful lot of cars off the road - a significant effect on congestion/pollution, I would think.
