Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.
Hot chocolate and warm muffins await, cushions plumped and fire stoked.

Good morning from a bitterly cold Stockport, dropped to -7 in the hour or so I have been awake.
I hope brooke’s flights to sunnier shores are not affected and they get away safely.
The thought of being somewhere warmer appeals to me enormously but the added thought of preparation, packing ,flying and airports just fills me with horror now.
My passport has expired and won’t be renewed.
All of you who still can get away and enjoy it must do it as much as you can because the day will be here faster than you think when it will no longer be possible.
Here ends my sermon for the day.
Pleas take great care if you have to be out and about today.

A busy kitchen today. All decorations stowed away safely here, including the inevitable one that misses the first sweep.

Good to see you back here soop. It’s not the same without you. I hope you can tame the tablet, if you can you can be chatting anywhere. I’m currently in my bed. I know, too much information smile.

Our central heating boiler is misbehaving but has kept us warm enough today with the added blessing of hot water. With the help of Google and a YouTube video we’ve nursed it along. It picked the weather that’s for sure.

I’ll message our boiler man in the morning, not wanting to interrupt his Sunday with his family. He’ll be busy for sure, I’m hoping he can give some instructions to help until he can get here.

In case I don’t get back tomorrow lots of luck is winging its way to kitty for her procedure on Tuesday. Soon be over and you’ll be back home recovering.

Go carefully everyone. If you venture out please stay upright. We don’t bounce as we mature.

Night, night.

Thank you for your concern grandmabatty and grannmarie. The chair that needs moving is my riser/recliner and is heavy due to the metal frame. I pushed it about 6 inches then gave up. I’ll have to curb my impatience and wait until one of my DDs comes next weekend!
neine helpful that you have some effective pain relief for your poor hip. I know that if I had effective pain relief for my back, I’d do too much and damage it further! So frustrating that I can’t do things that I used to be able to - like moving furniture!!
Night night everyone, sleep well and stay warm.

Scapa1 Sun 04-Jan-26 21:17:57

Glad to see Soops posting in her rightful place.

Jaxjacky Sun 04-Jan-26 20:25:36

‘Ramble’forever Grannmarie your posts are lovely.
I hope brook is safely in Edinburgh with a smooth onward journey tomorrow.
corner, have you any heating sorted yet? It’s going to be freezing.

Blossoming Sun 04-Jan-26 20:16:52

It’s lovely to see you back Soop. I now have my iPad set up with my most used apps on the home screen so they’re there when I start it up, I’m sure one of your children, or possibly grandchildren, could do it for you. They really are a boon when you’re poorly or tired xx

Grannmarie Sun 04-Jan-26 19:38:34

Aww, Fallingstar and Grandmabatty, we're 'kindred spirits' as Anne of Green Gables used to say!

I loved Starry Eyed by Michael Holliday...I must have had a thing about stars...

I also remember Perry Como singing 🎶 What did Della wear (Delaware), including all the US states.

Down memory lane...🥰

Grandmabatty Sun 04-Jan-26 19:24:16

Love Perry Como

Fallingstar Sun 04-Jan-26 19:18:41

Grannmarie I actually chose that moniker because Perry Como singing ‘Catch a falling star’ has long been a favourite of mine. ⭐️

Grannmarie Sun 04-Jan-26 19:07:32

Crossed posts, Neine, thanks for the hug, much appreciated.

Good evening Soop and lovely Kitchen people! It's great to have you back where you belong, lovely lady! 🍾 🥂

I hope 2026 is treating all of us kindly, I'm wishing everyone all the best for the year ahead.

Welcome to Castle and Fallingstar, im sure you'll feel at home in Soop's special Kitchen.
One of my favourite early childhood songs ( on the wireless 🤣) was Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket! DS1 put it on the playlist for my 70th birthday.

Wishing YiaYia and Kitty successful procedures and speedy recoveries this week. Jaxjacky, well done on the stairs, that is excellent progress! Neine, glad you have a date for your revision, hoping and praying that this does the trick for you. Thinking of everyone facing appointments in the near future, for themselves or for loved ones. Best wishes to our FGTS.

YiaYia, Spiros is a wee cutie!🐈‍⬛

Happy holidays, brook, have a safe journey and a fabulous time in Madiera! ✈
😎😎

Sounds like a great afternoon with your wee boys, Grandmabatty. Good luck with the early rise tomorrow.

Cornergran, wishing your son every success in his new venture. I'm sure everything will work out well. DS1 changed his job last year and is much happier although it involves some travel and time away from home. Basically, if they're happy, we're happy?

UsedToBeBlonde, good to hear that the family situation is improving, I'm so glad you met your newest great grandchild.

Redcar, please leave the furniture until your daughter's next visit. Don't risk damaging your back after you've come so far with your mobility.

DS3 came for dinner, savoury mince, tatties, carrots and onions. He brought my Christmas storage boxes down from the loft. I'll make a start tomorrow. 🤞

It's been very cold here today, but no snow yet. Alexa said minus 5 at 8am, it was minus 3 when I was driving up to Mass at 10.30.
I visited my housebound ladies afterwards, good to see them again.

My sisters are popping round soon for a wee 'cheese and wine', lots still to be used up! Trying to get back to normal this week, we've booked for Aquafit... I haven't been since I had Covid in October, too breathless. I'm looking forward to picking up the Wee Boy from school on Friday. I'll be glad of some routine.

I found New Year particularly sad, our first without DH. But found comfort in some happy memories. A photo memory popped up of DH sitting at the table, admiring my huge home made steak pie, his favourite, five years ago. I sent it to the family chat on NYD and said, Well I hope your Dad is enjoying his steak pie today, wherever he is! We had a wee laugh.

Sorry for rambling on, lovely Kitchen people. Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA.

Naughtyneine Sun 04-Jan-26 18:47:18

Falling star and Castle you will love the kitchen. It's filled with nothing but kindness and support. Our wonderful Soop is back with us too which is a fabulous start to 2026.
Kitty... I'm sorry if I've missed what your op is but I'm hoping all goes well on Tuesday.
Grandmabatty.... Your GS cuddles sound wonderful... I've had lots of memories coming up on FB and it's made me smile and be happy that they happened...
Yia...The look on Spiros gave us definitely a ' I'm up here and what are you going to do about it'? A real character. I've got everything crossed that the cough at least settles by Friday if not goes completely.
UTBB.... How lovely that a reconciliation ( truce?) has settled and you've got to see the littlest bubba.
The decorations are down, it shouldn't take have been until Tuesday but there was no way I'd have managed it on my own so we did it today so DH could help me. Actually in truth, domestic goddess mode was very much not in evidence this morning....Slutty housewife was very much in residence and looked very ensconced until about 11am ( think a long read of GN followed by a couple of crosswords and a visit to a garden centre) but amazingly she didn't get her way and we've achieved loads. I have to pace myself pain wise but took pain meds at lunch time and they saw me through and I feel so much better for getting stuff organised. I know I'm going to struggle post op so will try and get as much done as possible beforehand....
Brooke...can I sneak into your suitcase please.. I'm sure a week of sun and all inclusive will set me up for 4 hours plus surgery. Have a wonderful time.
Sending love and prayers to FGT, Dragonfly and SueD...and anyone else needing a hug....in fact I think a kitchen hug is called for now we have OUR SOOP back. Xxx

Welcome Fallingstar and Castle best place to be on gransnet.

Fallingstar Sun 04-Jan-26 17:41:45

Am a Johnny come lately but reading through this thread I can see what a friendly and warm place Soops kitchen is.
May not drop in often but would just like to sit somewhere on the fringes and hear you all chat.
Another day caring for my dear husband so I might just nod off xx

Yiayia4 Sun 04-Jan-26 17:18:35

Yamas Soop so good to have you back.❤️
Our Christmas tree was outside this year (Spiros would think it was yet another toy) all put away now.
The sprinkling of snow still lingers and another very cold night for Surrey.
Good luck for Tuesday Kitty hope all goes well.

Take care all keep warm and safe.

Jaxjacky Sun 04-Jan-26 16:51:15

Good excuse for a party soop 🥂
Our decorations are away now, our tree in the garden looking lonely.
Rather a lazy day, but up and down stairs three times, good exercise for the hip.
I hope Tuesday goes well kitty and is successful for you.
MrJ has gone to pub for meat draw with my daughter, my son is my ‘nurse’ 🙂.
Good to have you back soop.

Grandmabatty Sun 04-Jan-26 16:16:06

I'm so happy to see Soop back in her kitchen. Utbb what a lovely visit for you. Redcar be careful moving furniture with your bad back.
I expected a quiet day but ended up with the boys for three hours while their mum and dad went looking for a new car. The boys were generally good. We built a den in my bedroom and dgs1 tidied it all away without asking! He is particularly affectionate at the moment and likes cuddles and chats with grandma. Dgs2 is as wild as the heather. I made a pot of soup earlier and have just had a bowl while watching a heavy snow shower. Shortly I'll make stovies which will last tonight and tomorrow. Then an early night as I'll be up at half five in the morning. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 04-Jan-26 15:11:51

Missed about your op kitty I hope it goes well and you are soon back to normal.
Not quite so cold here, certainly above freezing, it was Baltic as my GC say at 5am.
We have had a small breakthrough with my GS and his partner.
There was a family situation between them and my S.
However things seem to have settled and yesterday they came round with my two GGD,s who are 2 and 5 months .
We had never seen the youngest.
Needless to say she is a little sweetie, very placid, unlike her sister who just wanted to race round the house and climb the stairs.
She then cried when they went and wanted to “ stay at Grandma’s house”
I shall wait to see if it lasts.
Snow is thawing here, I hope you all stay safe and warm.

Redcar Sun 04-Jan-26 15:10:57

My iPad was fine soop until I loaded an update. Since then it has a mind of its own and I’m taking ages to get to grips with it. And as for the predictive text, I’m not sure what language it’s predicting, but it’s not English and its grammar is appalling!!
Lovely to see you back in your kitchen, I did find your other thread too.
DD2 came this morning and brought some fruit cake, please help yourselves!
She dismantled the Christmas tree for me, but DD1 was supposed to come this afternoon to move the furniture back to its usual place, but is now too busy!!
If I’m very careful I may be able to do it myself, an inch at a time.
The room looks very bare now, but I’ll get used to it.
Have a pleasant afternoon everyone and stay warm.

gillgran Sun 04-Jan-26 15:10:05

I think we have all been delighted to see you posting again, soop. ( on your "Hello again" thread & here.). x flowers

Our decorations will come down in the next 24 hours, ( just need a little motivation!) smile

Warm thoughts for you all. x

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 15:09:07

I have closed our redundant thread.

I have brought a delicious cold buffet and several bottles of finest, chilled Champagne with which to share belated New Year's greetings to each and every one of our dear Kitcheners. Let us raise a glass to everyone's health...SLAINTE!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 04-Jan-26 14:56:36

Oh dear my iPad has a mind of its own soop I am certain I typed decorations not decisions 😹😹😹

GrannyGravy13 Sun 04-Jan-26 14:55:36

kittylester

I am sure everyone will be pleased to see you here, soop:

Our decorations are down and packed away. We needed to do it before my operation on Tuesday so, it's done. The house looks weird without them.

Hope all goes well for your op kittylester 🤞🏻

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 14:53:49

GrannyGravy13 I was hoping that the tablet would be less of a buggeration than it has proved to be. I do not want countless Apps. I also find that it has a mind of it's own and midway between messaging, it skips a beat and I am bamboozled. Anyway, I have rediscovered the computer and, regardless of the fact that the seat is a trifle uncomfortable, making the effort to connect with You lovely lot is well worth the effort.
Are you packing decorations? Not "decisions"? If so, I applaud you. Our second son will be visiting us mid week. I know that the decorations should be packed away by the but, we are keeping the tree, baubles etc in place until they leave for home. When the log fire is alight, the room looks so colourful and cosy.
