Hi kitchen pals, yes a it’s a quiet kitchen evening tonight.
We called into DD2s late afternoon and ended up bringing DGS back here for a sleepover. So lovely that he wanted to come and stay so we’ve been making the most of the evening together. We’ll drop him back home in the morning. I feel I need to hold onto every minute together as at 12 he’s growing up so fast. He’s quite a bit taller than me now but I still got a couple of cuddles on the sofa and I’ve just tucked him up in bed …. I probably got an eye roll when I went out 🤣
Hoping you’ve had a good day today Jax
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Soops warm and welcoming kitchen for kindly folk 🎄
(1001 Posts)Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.
Hot chocolate and warm muffins await, cushions plumped and fire stoked.
It's such a busy time, everyone must be doing their Christmas prep. I've cheated with the Christmas wrapping, that was DH's job. Where is that man when I need him? I've wrapped for the children, the adults' gifts are in Christmas bags with tissue paper.
Our taxi is coming at 4.15 am!!!
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go🎶🎵
TOYA, NNGB. 🥰
That’s what I was thinking GrandmaC47. I tend to just read kitchen news rather than contribute, but I’ll add that I hope the Soops are comfortable and that MrFGT’s expected results are encouraging. X
So quiet here tonight. Hope everyone is ok.
Power back 🤞, went off at 12:50, a long few hours, it’s cold here too.
Love samosa, thank you Nannytopsy
Sounding better brook, shower can wait another day, nearly my bedtime!
Thanks nannytopsy the samosas look good
Jax hope your power is back and you can have a warm shower, I bet you’re looking forward to it - take care though x
Enjoy Bratislava grannmarie and the festive Christmas markets!
Must be a theme as we also had home cooked fish and chips here tonight too, my appetite is coming back and I’m enjoying food again. I went out for the first time in a week today, just for a coffee with DH but it felt like a big accomplishment! I got home and finished the present wrapping so I can now see the dining table again, I’m going to dress it for Christmas tomorrow. My cough is still there but seems to be easing a bit.
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all 💐
PS there’s a pile of samosas on the Aga. Help yourselves.
Thank you Redcar and Cornergran - the journey home was a delight. No traffic problems at all. It was a very lovely funeral, with a celebrant who knew our friend and it showed. His son gave a brave and loving eulogy. We met up with old friends and shed the odd tear. Ex Royal Navy and fire service, there was a guard of honour of about 100 which was moving.
And now we are all in the final run up to Christmas. I hope you have all girded up your loins girls? Good luck!
Hope your power is back on soon Jaxjacky and you can have your shower.
Don’t try and do too much.
I love sausage, mash and beans too grandmabatty, but am having fish and chips this evening, home cooked rather than from the chippy!
I had my hair cut and coloured this afternoon and caught up with the goings on in my hairdressers life!
It’s been a lovely sunny day today, but a bit chilly, I went for a walk this morning but none of my dog walking friends were out. I cleaned the kitchen and it looks quite clean and tidy now. I need to clean the bathroom tomorrow.
jax I hope your power comes back on soon.
Best wishes to those who are poorly, or recovering from the nasty cough that’s doing the rounds.
Stay warm and comfortable all those in the quiet corner.
Have a pleasant evening folks.
I love sausage, mash and beans! Yum. And a chippy. I am having french toast with beans and oodles of hp sauce, I think.
I've wrapped nearly all the presents and can see light at the end of the tunnel. I had been going to hand deliver the neighbours cards but the rain has been neverending today so that's a job for tomorrow. I feel better organised now. Dsil dropped off a lovely poinsettia plant from him and dd.
Tomorrow will be finishing wrapping which won't take long, deliver cards and a quick trip to Aldi for a few necessities. Then sort out the dining room. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.
Good to see you’re doing okay Jax, hop the power is back on soon. We’re having sausage, mash and beans tonight, comfort food in cold weather.
Have a lovely evening everyone xx
Lovely to hear from you Grannmarie, Bratislava sounds wonderful.
We’ve got a power cut, not all houses as I can see across the road are fine, talk about taking the **! Due back on at 6, I’m hoping for earlier as it’s chilly.
Nurse this morning, all good, I can shower, should have done it when I could, looks like it will be a chippy dinner.
I’ll pop back later.
Hello 👋 lovely Kitchen people!🥰
I'm popping in from the Quiet Corner to let everyone know that I'm still TOYA, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow. Special thoughts and prayers for our Soops, FGTS, YiaYia, Blossoming, Neine and all who need/ wish them. Also to those without a special loved one this Christmas. 💕🕯
Great to hear that Jaxjacky is home and on the road to recovery, what an unexpected turn of events!
So sorry to hear your sad news, UsedToBeBlonde, thinking of you. 🙏🕯💐 May your dear friend rest in peace.
Good to hear from you, SueD, you sound very busy but well organised. Enjoy having so many family around you, glad your sons had time together.
So sorry you're not well brook but you're doing the right thing so that you will be on the mend for Christmas. Thank goodness for video calls!
Glad you're finished your childcare for this year Grandmabatty. This is my last day picking up the Wee Boy til New Year. School finished earlier today, we've had our snack , now we're both having a wee bit screen time before pizza night and football ⚽ training...in the rain!! A very dreich afternoon here.
My sisters and I are off to Bratislava Christmas markets very early on Sunday morning. This is my 70th birthday gift from my siblings, I'm very excited and very grateful!! I've had to really push myself to get things organised for Christmas before I go, but I'm nearly there. 🤞🙏
Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday evening and a good weekend. 🥰🎄
We’ve been over the bridge visiting a Welsh friend today. Thankfully the motorways behaved, it didnt stop raining though. We were very fortunate, we could meet our son and he drove most of the way. A granddaughter came too. All in all an enjoyable day.
I’m sorry your journey was so hard nannyt, wishing you better luck for your return after a sad occasion.
It sounds as if Christmas will focus on the gentle art of delegation jax. Rest well tonight.
I’m sorry you have to delay your visit brook, a very sensible decision, although of course not what you want.
Goodnight everyone.
A quick hello to the kitchen people.
I spent several hours at the hairdresser and had my roots done and a cut. It looks good.
Thinking of JJ, the Soops and the FGT2S,
Sleep 💤 tight.
nannytopsy what an awful journey for you - the A14 has always been a horrible road! I don’t suppose the rain helped either. Hope you’re comfortable in your Premier Inn this evening. Fingers crossed you have a better journey home tomorrow.
We were on the A14 today - apologies to anyone else. The highways agency must have a spy in our car because if we are out, they set up road works! Today the A14 was closed for emergency bridge repairs. Our 2 hour journey took 6!
We are in our premier inn in Loughborough tonight, for a funeral tomorrow. Warning - we shall be back on the A 14 tomorrow, so stay clear 🤣. On the positive side, we had a very good curry tonight. That’s probably the only thing we miss now we live rurally.
This weekend we have presents to wrap and the house to sort out.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. X
Hello everyone - goodness, what a filthy day! Pouring with rain and windy, I’ve had the lights on all day!
SueD I hope your DS2 has arrived back in the uk and isn’t still stranded in the US with no phone!
jax I’m so pleased you enjoyed your own bed last night and no doubt will enjoy it again tonight! I hope your revised plans for Christmas Eve and Day go smoothly.
I wrapped up the last of the presents this afternoon and delivered a card and present to a friend, just one more to deliver next door!
I just need to transfer some money to DD1 for her daughters and more towards Christmas food., then I’m done!
I’ll be going to bed soon, so night night everyone.
Lovely to see you SueD you sound very busy but very well organised for Christmas
Pleased you’re settling back in at home Jax and being well looked after ☕️
Hi Tilly thank you for asking, unfortunately I’m still suffering with this virus so I’ve decided to postpone my visit to DD1s . You’re right that these viruses take a while to recover from and apart from that it wouldn’t be right to share all my germs whilst travelling and with the family. So I’m disappointed of course but it cant be helped - there’s going to be quite a few facetime calls!
Hi everyone, a day of resting, walking up and down and being waited on. I don’t know Charleygirl I’ll find out tomorrow, nurse appt at 9 to check dressing.
My daughter and Imogen called in just now, we were running through rearranged plans for Christmas Eve and day, it’ll be different.
My condolences utbb what a shock 💐
I’ll be having an early night, boy our bed was good last night!
brook are you recovered enough to go to England to visit family? Please don’t push yourself, these virus’s take a while to recover from.
It’s quiet in the soop’s everyone must be busy with Christmas preparations.
I’ve put mince pies on the side for everyone to help themself to if they come in here later.
Jaxjacky I hope you’ve spent the day enjoying being home, and being attended to by your DH. The first days post-op are so important and you must get plenty of rest.
Thoughts with the soops , fgt’s , Yiayia and everyone who is below par just now. Take care of yourselves.
Desperately trying to catch up with you all!
I hope your GD is feeling better, Rosiesmaw, poor sausage.
Your hip sounds so bad, Neine.
What an incredible experience, to help a new life coming into the world, especially at this time of year. ❤️
I’ve no doubt you’ll always miss your dd, Baggs. How could you not? 😢
Thank you for news of the Soops, they sound cheerful!
Such sad news for you, UTTB.
Jax I’ve totally missed why you’ve been in hospital, except you’ve had an op. I’m glad you’re home, it’s just the best place to recover. Get well soon!
It’s been all go here with Xmas. Plans keep changing so now we’ve got eight instead of four - I’m gonna need a bigger turkey! Having a decorator in last week to paint the sittingroom was not a good idea, I don’t recommend it! Luckily, he’s done a lovely job but really, what was I thinking?
We’ve now got the tree up (GD helping and one of the cats too interested in it for his own good.) and I’ve posted my cards today. Most wrapping is done, just the stragglers to do now. Childcare is intermingled and people will be arriving from points afar, though no one has told me when, exactly. Ds2 has been out visiting DS1 in the States - he went to get his flight home last night, which was then delayed, and he hasn’t been heard from since! His phone has probably run out of battery, it’s ancient and very temperamental. Tomorrow I’m getting my nails done and then going to Waitrose, about 30 miles away, to pick up some nice bits and bobs to eat.
I want to do some baking over the weekend and need to make up beds for six people. It all keeps me out of mischief!
TOYA. Xxx
Welcome home jax. Behave though, please, your body needs to mend. No weight lifting or marathon running.
.
Another here who gets in a tizz about passwords redcar. There has to be a better way.
Sad news for you utbb, I’m so sorry.
Sleep well everyone. Night night. .
