Today I had a haircut, central heating repair, Tesco delivery and made red onion marmalade, red cabbage and celeriac mash ready for Christmas lunch. Where would we be without our freezer!
And now the ironing awaits …

Hello, Kitcheners All! Seasonal greetings from soop, with whom I have just been catching up, and me. I apologise for not being up-to-date with everyone's news. I shall read a good 'depth' of the thread after I've posted this.

Soop and MrSoop are doing well, all things considered. Soop cannot move about much. Although she does use her stroller, she is unable to stand up straight. Getting out is difficult too as the wheelchair she has is heavy for MrS to push and also to lift into the boot of the car. They hope to get out a little between Christmas and New Year when her DS3 and fiancée will be visiting.

Soop was telling me she is to have zoledronic acid infusions at Lochgilphead Hospital so I hope to be able to visit her there at some point, winter weather allowing.

MrB and I are dealing with house repair and decorating issues that started in July! Quite a buggeration – several buggerations – all in all but, apart from our rather old freezer deciding to give up its ghost today, we are trundling along alright. The part-time finance administrative job I took on as a distraction after DD1 died has been a good challenge and has helped (and is helping) though I miss her deeply and always will.

We are at DDs today and we’re off to listen to carols sung by DGD1 later on.
Just sitting here listening to a xmas playlist and catching up on kitchen news.

I’ve rescheduled a few things planned for this week and cancelled others, biggest disappointment is that it’s DGDs 11th Birthday today and we should all have been going out for a birthday tea - I’m very sorry to be missing that but can’t be helped 😢
DH seems fine and hasn’t caught this bug which is good, he’s just gone out to post the last Christmas cards and get a bit of shopping

Hello Kitcheners. A tiring day for me after a disturbed night. I went into town (in a taxi, can’t cope with Christmas traffic and parking at the moment). I had a good look round some shops, bought more gift labels, I never seem to have enough, got a few more presents and came home. This afternoon I walked to the village post office to collect some tracked mail. I wrapped the presents I bought today, and then sat down! I haven’t done much since, warmed the hot wheat pack a few times and am now feeling sleepy.
I’m trying to psych myself up to drive to the garden centre in the morning, it’s less than 3 miles away with a big car park so I should be ok.
brook I hope you manage to shake off whichever bug you have. Would hot lemon and honey help the cough?
jax I hope you’ve had a good day today and aren’t in too much pain.

Thank you grandmabatty ❤️ I’ve been dozing on the sofa all day, I’ve had no energy to do anything else. I don’t know if it’s Covid, flu or some other cough virus but whatever it is I hope it’s gone soon. I had to postpone our birthday tea with DGD but I hope she doesn’t mind. I can cancel most things this week but I really want to be well enough to go to Cambridge on Friday - fingers crossed
I’m behind with the kitchen news so apologies to all, just wanted to say that I hope jax is back on her feet again very soon

Good evening Kitcheners. Today I dropped off the boys at school and nursery. They were in high spirits. Then home to tidy the kitchen and have a lie down. In the afternoon I tidied up the school library for an hour and that's my stint finished until January. I picked up the boys again and brought them to my house and they turned into locusts. Everything has been devoured. They are not long away home and I have yet again tidied up. The cauliflower cheese is in the oven, the potatoes are boiling and the gammon is ready so dinner soon. Brook I hope you are feeling better or, at least, in bed .

Oh what a ‘buggeration’ Jax as our dear Soop might have said- glad to hear you’re now in recovery as it were and sounds like you’re making good progress. As the surgeon so aptly responded after asking my OH how he was feeling following his operation ( OH replied very tired) he said that hospitals weren’t conducive to getting rest or a good sleep. He discharged my OH the next day!
Hope you’re home soon and can get the R and R required. x

A day of doing nothing much for me, wrote the last few cards and wrapped a few presents. I’ll deliver the local cards this week. I’m planning on a trip into my nearest town tomorrow to get a few more presents then need to collect a package from the post office in the village. After that I’ll need to rest! No stamina these days unfortunately!

A dozing night yesterday, hospitals aren’t conducive to good sleep. I did get out of bed to sit in a chair and use the commode, catheter out, tomorrows plan is is walk further, on the frame.
Son and daughter visited separately which was good, MrJ day off, he’ll be back tomorrow.
A very quiet kitchen, busy people, I hope the FGT’s Sunday has passed well.

Wow NN. What an amazing experience!

Ooh Jax what happened....I hope you are back in recovery now and have plenty of pain relief.
I am just in from the hospital... The lass that I've been supporting through the Safe Families charity called me at midnight to say the baby was on its way. She had been induced as the baby was small. I went in at 5am just as they were setting up the syntocinon drip. I then came back home for a couple of hours and then back in. The baby's heart rate kept dipping and a 12 noon she was 3cm dilated and there was a mention on a CS which she was terrified of having so it was agreed they would monitor her carefully for another few hours. At 1.55pm she went into the en suite and when she hadn't appeared I called out to see if she was ok....No can't back the answer...I went in to find her standing up with the baby's head practically delivered. I shouted for the midwife who ran in and knelt on the floor and I held her up as she pushed the rest of the baby out. I honestly don't know how I managed to hold her but I did... Adrenalin probably. We then managed to get her to her bed and I held the baby while the placenta was delivered. A little girl..tiny but just perfect. I'm off to Mass shortly to give thanks for a safe delivery. I feel very blessed and privileged tonight to have shared that wonderful moment of a new birth. I'll be back later when I've come back down to earth.

Hello kitchen people! I’m finally sitting down after a busy day - OH will make us a cup of tea and mincepies.

Today I have been mainly making 3 dozen sausage rolls, enough stuffing for 24 stuffing balls and a batch of lemon icecream. I’ve also wrapped the rest of the presents - apart from one which hasn’t arrived yet - and stuck 2nd class stamps on the Christmas cards. Phew.

Milo thought he should help - he’s 15 and still enjoys playing with bits of ribbon. Ripley had a nap downstairs.
