Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.
Hot chocolate and warm muffins await, cushions plumped and fire stoked.

The 10yr old was happy with his favourite dinner (steak, chips and mushrooms) He wrote his Christmas cards and has now commandeered the sitting room TV.

We get it back at 8 pm ( soft touches 😹)

Thinking of our dear soop I hope she is comfortable and enjoying being with mr.soop

brook2704 Thu 04-Dec-25 18:57:28

I can understand your anger and upset uttb I’d feel the same way, but at least it’s over now and your daughter can move on with better things in her life. Hope you’re feeling better soon too
Well done to you grandmabatty in getting things done, much more than I’ve achieved today although I did go into town to return a few things and I bought a few more. I got the special Christmas cards for close family, I’ll need to post DSs and partner tomorrow to ensure it arrives in Switzerland in time. One of my step grandsons wants an Inverness football shirt for Christmas so DH went along to the club shop today, goodness me they’re expensive. We don’t mind spending the money, it’s more that they seem really inflated prices. Never mind though he’ll be thrilled on Christmas morning. DH is off on the train down to Manchester tomorrow morning for the weekend, he’ll be playing Santa and visiting his sons and families. He’s taking all their presents and cards so that’ll be a big part of the Christmas list crossed off. I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend
Thinking of all our poorly Kitcheners, especially dearest soop hoping all is well

Grandmabatty Thu 04-Dec-25 15:53:30

UTBB at least your daughter is free of it all. I'm quite sure my ex had more money than he admitted to, however I wanted rid of him.
Today I have managed to achieve most of what I set out. The kitchen is very tidy. I have cleaned all the windows and glass (inside). I've tidied the boys' room too which badly needed it and washed the floors. Then I sorted out the Christmas cards and wrote a list of what I still need to get. I'm eating that elephant bite by bite.

utbb sorry to hear about your DD’s marriage, and even sorrier that she had to give in over the financial settlement. I hope she can walk away with her head held high and make another life for herself. I wish her good luck for a happier future.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 04-Dec-25 12:43:33

The only positive side is that my nose is almost completely healed from the chemotherapy cream I was using on it.
Two weeks earlier and this cold would have been very difficult as my whole nose was very raw and scabby.
I don’t know how I would have coped with having to wipe it constantly.
Sorry your plans have also been disrupted Redcar can’t be helped though. Illness doesn’t take note of social happenings, maybe you can rearrange.

On to another difficult thing to deal with, my D has just told me she has had official notice that her marriage has ended,.
The Absolute was granted this morning, ending 34 years of marriage and 12 years of separation.
She has capitulated on the Financial settlement despite everyone’s pleas to not let him get away with what he has.

She was so tired of the whole thing and the dragging out of it she just settled.
I am so angry on her behalf , he has a very very good job and
has inherited hundreds of thousands of pounds and lives a wonder life with his lady who has never worked in the 12 years they have lived together.
However it is over and I hope she can put it all behind her now.

utbb I think the fast flowing river phase of a cold is the worst but hopefully won’t last long and that your poor nose doesn’t get too sore. I hope the hot drink and paracetamol help the discomfort.

Our planned Sunday visit to my poorly sister in law has been cancelled because she has the cough and chest infection, her daughter has it too. Neither of them is up for entertaining me and my daughters and we don’t want to catch the infection either. (Although I think I had it back in September courtesy of some friends who brought it back from their holiday in Australia!).
A miserably wet day here, I’m wrapping the granddaughters’s Christmas presents then must turn my attention to the cards.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 04-Dec-25 11:09:41

Good morning, the running tap is now a fast flowing river.
I feel pretty sorry for myself.
I have cancelled today’s lunch out to my disappointment and have also given notice I may not be able to do the Italian restaurant meal tomorrow.
Apart from not being up to going out it would be grossly unfair to others, no-one wants to be ill at this time of year.
I got my cards written and stamped on Tuesday but what a sad time it was going through the address book.
I must get a new one in the New Year, there will be about a 10th of the current contents, how sad it made me feel.
Off now for another hot drink and paracetamol, the loo breaks are very frequent.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 03-Dec-25 23:19:56

Yia I hope you have some luck booking Christmas lunch out.
We booked in August and only got our 2nd choice of venue.
It has been like that for a few years now.
We have joked we will book at Easter next year.
Spiros is one very lucky cat but I’m sure he will repay your love a million times over.
My cold has progressed to the running tap stage.
I have a blackcurrant Lemsip at my side.

dragonfly46 Wed 03-Dec-25 22:41:16

Yiayia so sorry your Christmas will not be with family.

Yiayia4 Wed 03-Dec-25 21:40:47

Thank you are all so kind.Spiros is not quite ready for a Cattery as his second inoculation is after Christmas also a bit young to be left yet,I’m just being emotional. We are thinking of booking lunch out will be something to look forward to.
Charleygirl you would be the best carer for Spiros.

Nannytopsy Wed 03-Dec-25 20:59:16

Hello everyone! I too have fallen foul of a chesty cough. It’s all upper respiratory but lots of grot IYKWIM!
I have spent the day doing very little but I did get a few presents wrapped. I still have most of the cards to write. I work my way through the address book and have only got to D.
Look after yourselves

Blossoming Wed 03-Dec-25 20:20:14

Hope you and your DH have a wonderful Christmas Yia, I can understand you not wanting to leave Spiros at the moment. MrB and I used to be out and about so much over Christmas and New Year. It will be a quiet time for the two of us but I’m just happy to be home now.

kittylester Wed 03-Dec-25 20:19:01

Yiayia, i'm sorry that your Christmas won't be as you'd like. For various reasons we are on our own on Christmas day and have decided to have an easy day. We have ordered a Cook Christmas Dinner and intend to have a relaxed day. We have done this once before and it worked well. The food was lovely.

We are having a family mince pies and mulled wine get together a few days later.

Redcar Wed 03-Dec-25 20:11:49

yiayia I’m sorry that Christmas won’t be as you’d hoped. I suppose it would be very unsettling for Spiro to go into a cattery for a few days? I don’t know much about cats! One of my neighbours used to go away frequently and leave us in charge of feeding the cat. I used to feed it and clear up any mess and DH used to cuddle it!
brook your evening sounds great fun, if exhausting!
grandmabatty the Christmas display looks good, I used to help with special needs children at our local infants school. I was supposed to help with the displays, but painting and other crafts aren’t my forte unfortunately!
grannmarie my Christmas tree and decorations are now in two of the bedrooms, waiting for me to clear a space in the lounge to put the tree in. I’m taking it very slowly and hope that DD2 will at least move the furniture for me when she comes on Friday.
I’m glad your cold is just a cold and nothing worse utbb.
Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

Jaxjacky Wed 03-Dec-25 19:40:57

A sleepover, you party animal brook!.
I doubt you’ve ever been selfish Yia but ouch, I do feel for you, nothing I can say will make it as you wish, but I do hope you and your Mr make it special in a different way x
And Grannmarie your dead slow is allowed lots of stops, perhaps with a treat at every one, tricky for you x
MrJ at last got Christmas decs and wrapping from the loft, we need more paper, possibly tags.
It was more or less dry today, so a pleasant walk, it’s wet forecast for the foreseeable.
corner 🤗 x

Charleygirl5 Wed 03-Dec-25 19:19:58

Yia a pity I live in London because Spiros and I would be fine together, and he would be well cared for.

I will be on my own, which will not bother me, so he would be good company.

brook2704 Wed 03-Dec-25 19:14:10

Yia❤️

Grannmarie Wed 03-Dec-25 19:03:59

Good evening everyone. 🥰

Good news, FGTs and Dragonflies.!!

SueD, I hope your sons have a wonderful time together.

YiaYia and Cornergran, I'm sorry to hear about family problems, they do cause a lot of worry and hurt.💐💐

Redcar, I throw washing downstairs too!!🤣

Ladyleftfieldlover, I'm glad your issue has been identified, so it can be treated or managed.

Blossoming, great to see you getting out and about.

UsedToBeBlonde, I hope you recover quickly from your cold. I am now seven weeks post Covid and still coughing, despite antibiotics and codeine cough linctus. GP says my chest is clear, these things are just lingering...

A beautiful Christmas window and story corner, Grandmabatty, the wee ones will love that! When I taught Infants I used to stay late on 30 November to decorate my classroom, cloakroom and corridor so that the children came in to a big surprise on December 1st. I still miss Christmas at school, lots of happy memories.

Brook, your night out sounds fantastic! I wish I had your stamina!

Im trying to pick up my routines after all the drama of last week. Today was the Christmas Coffee Morning, very festive and convivial, beautifully set tables with crackers. Light lunch of mini steak pie followed by sticky toffee pudding and cream, then tea and home baking. Christmas cards were exchanged, first I've written so far. Christmas crafts were on sale too so I've got some stocking fillers. Our new young priest was invited, and presented with a nice cheque for the parish from our fundraising.

DS3 came for dinner on Sunday and brought down all my Christmas stuff from the loft. I'm not much further forward, although I've cleared windowledges and moved furniture to make room for the tree.
DH always assembled it and made sure of a nice symmetrical spread of branches, not sure we've managed his standard! I'm hoping to have it dressed and the rooms decorated by the weekend. Only problem is, my two speeds are dead slow and stop. Finding it hard to do Christmas this year.

Thinking of our Soops and all in the quiet corner, especially those with illness, worries or sorrow. TOYA. Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening and a good night's sleep.

Yiayia4 Wed 03-Dec-25 19:00:30

Thank you GrandmabattyDs has 3 cats so not possible.

Grandmabatty Wed 03-Dec-25 18:13:13

Yiayia that's rotten for you both. I expect you will put a brave face on but it must sting. Could you take Spiros with you, if you go up north? Whatever you decide, take a big virtual hug from me

Yiayia4 Wed 03-Dec-25 18:01:58

Hello Kitcheners.
Well today I had my pre op for cataracts, should be done in 4 to 6 weeks and I’m on the waiting list for a cancellation,so not too long to wait.

I’m so down about Christmas. It seems we will be on our own for various reasons. We could go up north but to soon to leave Spiros.DS1 is having in-laws and DS3 is going to in-laws as always.I’m probably being selfish but after the year we have had it’s the icing on the cake, sorry to be a pain, I will go back to the quiet corner.❤️

brook2704 Wed 03-Dec-25 16:29:54

Hi kitchen pals hoping everyone is doing ok
I’m just home from an overnight Christmas party event, organised by the line dancing ladies at the gym. We’ve had a really lovely time, lots of dancing, laughter, good food and good company. It was a late night last night, I stayed up dancing until the early hours but didn’t have too many wines so no sore head this morning 😇
A lovely display grandmabatty well done, the school are lucky to have you
Good to hear from you SueD
Hoping all poorly kitcheners are feeling much better soon, take care all x

Grandmabatty Wed 03-Dec-25 12:34:05

This is the infant Christmas display at the school library. I have more to do. There are Christmas books elsewhere on display for the older children. I enjoyed sorting it out. I'm listening to Christmas carols while I have a bowl of soup and eat smoked salmon open sandwiches. This afternoon will be cleaning windows. Enjoy the rest of your day

Usedtobeblonde Wed 03-Dec-25 12:28:33

An early Good afternoon.
Thank you Redcar my cold is just a cold I’m pleased to say.
A dripping nose, sore throat easier and I’m functioning normally, which isn’t saying a lot!!
I rang my friend to give her the option of not coming but she decided to come anyway.
I have had a shower and washed my hair, put a piece of pork in the oven and tidied the kitchen.
That’s my lot for today.
My stew and dumplings, delayed until last night ,were delicious and have been requested again.
That for me is a result.
I send my warmest good wishes to the poorlies and their loving carers.
Have the best day you can everyone, it is a beautiful sunny day here, I hope you are all enjoying the same.

Redcar Wed 03-Dec-25 11:56:35

dragonfly so pleased that your DH is at last making progress and hope the rehab gets him moving around again soon. I hope you can get a stairlift installed quickly.
*blossoming’ I’ve thrown the washing down the stairs or down the stairwell for a few years now, sometimes it spreads itself all over the stairs or the hall!
utbb I hope your cold isn’t too debilitating and you are still able to enjoy your meals out.
