Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.
Hot chocolate and warm muffins await, cushions plumped and fire stoked.

Redcar Tue 27-Jan-26 20:23:29

baggs thank you for the update. I hope that the bone strengthening infusions will help soop and enable her to be more comfortable. I hope you can manage to see her, whichever hospital she’s in.
Good that Ceiling Man was able to get going on your ceiling today.
A very wet morning here, but nothing like the rain in the south west of the country. A nothing sort of day for me, hope I can get myself moving more tomorrow.

Best wishes to all in the quiet corner and all with health problems.
Enjoy the rest of the evening folks.

Baggs Tue 27-Jan-26 20:11:01

Soop wishes me to update you all with the news that she is to have bone-strengthening infusions starting tomorrow. It is to be at Campbeltown and not Lochgilphead which is a disappointment as I might have been able to visit her at Lochgilphead, though not tomorrow as I will be working. We'll have to see what we can work out.

If any of you magical ladies can rustle me up a private, always available and crewed helicopter, that would be much appreciated.

Ceiling buggerations at the Boggy Brae are not over yet but today Ceiling Man got started after a week of insurance and van hire buggerations on his side. Today though he was delayed a long time on his way here by an accident (not to him or his vehicle) involving two cars and two ambulances.

My good wishes to all with worries and health issues.

It could be the weather Grannygravy, although both boys were up very early this morning and there are only 2 years between. Brook I'm sure they will grow out of it in time

Hello kitchen people,

Gosh it’s been wet and windy today.

I popped out to see friends this afternoon. I walked even though my toe was painful. My recently widowed friend came too and she is doing well. It must be a month since her husband died and she said she had good days and bad days.

OH has just gone to his Shooting Club. I might watch an old Miss Marple on Netflix.

Have a good evening.

Another wet and windy day here. I too am thinking of Soop and the Fgts. Hope Jax is feeling easier too.

gillgran Tue 27-Jan-26 19:12:42

Also a wet & windy day here in Cambs, although, by watching the news we have been much luckier than other places.

Forecast better for tomorrow, we plan to go to check on our little home-from-home on the Norfolk coast, (we've not been since we closed up for the winter in November). We're hoping we are both fit enough to keep it for another year.
We do try to count our blessings.

I continue to think of all our friends here, especially those with added worries for themselves & their loved ones. x

GrannyGravy13 Tue 27-Jan-26 18:54:11

It has been grey, wet and windy here all day.

Have been to the Farm Shop, had a man putting a power point for DH’s new car on the front garage wall.

Chicken and ham pie, mash and veggies for dinner.

Grandmabatty our GS was tired and emotional before swimming tonight, perhaps it’s the weather.

I am mindful that some of our kitchen friends have enormous hurdles to overcome.

brook2704 Tue 27-Jan-26 18:35:08

Same here weather wise grannmarie and grandmabatty, wet and windy all day with more to come
It was good to see Jax posting on the GM thread today, hoping things are a bit easier soon
I’ve done a volunteering session today, bits of cleaning and tidying but not much else. Sorry to hear the boys were trying today Gmb I remember days like that so well
Hoping everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, especially our dearest soop
Take care all x

Grandmabatty Tue 27-Jan-26 18:02:42

Good evening kitchen folk. It has been a horrible day weather wise. Rain, cold and wind all day. Grannmarie stew for dinner sounds perfect for such a miserable day.
Today has been trying. The boys are going through a phase of annoying each other - and me! And telling tales on each other too. They were put on separate sofas this morning and made to have five minutes silence ( dgs2 managed 3 minutes) and they were threatened with the same after school/nursery. Grandma was not kidding! I've used my teacher voice today and my speaking quietly with menace voice too. Dgs1 takes it to heart. Dgs2 not so much 😂
I tidied up the kitchen which will need more tidying after the two horrors have been in it. Shortly I'll have baked potato with cheese and beans for an easy dinner. Then collapse on the couch. Enjoy your evening all

Grannmarie Tue 27-Jan-26 17:37:05

Another quiet day in our special Kitchen. I'm thinking especially of Soop, FGTS, Jaxjacky and all our absent friends, hoping and praying that things are a little better for them day but day. ❤️🙏

Wet and very windy here today. I can hear the wind howling. I went out to mass this morning, but came home directly instead of going to Aquafit and shopping as planned, not a day to be outdoors. Spent some time organising birthday gifts and cards, we have seven family/ friends' birthdays coming up. Hard to have ideas so soon after Christmas!

Lentil soup for lunch and stew for dinner, warming comfort food for a dreich day.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Tuesday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA.

Very quiet in the kitchen today. A really cold dank day outside, but cosy here by the Aga in this kitchen. I had a walk this morning but got very chilled sitting talking to dog walking friends! I’ve done some ironing and not much else! I’m wading through the weekend papers and have nearly finished them.
I did walk down the garden and found two crocuses out and some hellebores in bud! Spring is on its way, but storm Chandra to get out of the way first. I hope it doesn’t do much damage.

Best wishes to those in the quiet corner and sending healing thoughts to all who are in pain.

I’m going to bed soon, only 5 hours sleep last night and am a bit tired.

Night night everyone.

brook2704 Mon 26-Jan-26 18:48:44

Lovely news about the kitten SueD, hope he does well
It’s been a quiet day here, DGDs school was closed as they had a problem with the heating so she had an unexpected day off. I’ve just pottered about inside today, made some soup and then had a brief spell in the garden doing some general tidying up
Hoping everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, especially Soop, fgt, jax
Take care all x

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Jan-26 21:24:43

Sorry, Standing with Giants.
I hope everyone has a good evening.

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Jan-26 21:22:55

Evening all. It sounds like a quiet day in the kitchen. We did gammon for family lunch with syrup steamed pudding and custard. Back on the diet tomorrow.
We are now watching The Night Manager and I am knitting poppies for Shoulders of giants.

SueDonim Sun 25-Jan-26 21:09:48

Not much to report except that our dd has a new kitten, after losing her faithful old cat last autumn. It’s taken her a while to come round to having a new pet but now he’s here, they’re thrilled. He’s a ragdoll and has settled in over 24 hours as though he’s lived there forever!

brook2704 Sun 25-Jan-26 20:26:31

A quiet day here too, not done much but pottered about - I did have a quick walk around the garden looking for signs of spring but there’s not much happening yet
Pleased to hear the sleepover went well grandmabatty 👍
I hope everyone is doing ok, special thoughts with soop, fgt and jax
Take care all x

GrannyGravy13 Sun 25-Jan-26 19:41:58

Rather lazy here today, just cleaned up the kitchen after cooking roast pork.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner.

Hope Jaxjacky is more comfortable this evening.

(((Hugs))) to our dear soop

I like the sound of the second breakfast grandmabatty!

A grey drizzly day here, with a chilly easterly breeze, not a day for going out or gardening! I decided not to bother with a walk either.
DD1 and family visited early afternoon, DGD3 did her maths homework, DGD1 was using the laptop to produce furniture plans for imaginary rooms. They’d been to IKEA yesterday to look for wardrobes for her bedroom, hence the interest in planning furniture!
After they’d gone, the mechanic collected my car to see if he can find out why it behaves strangely at times. grannmarie I hope your car warning lights are nothing serious.

Then had a long phone conversation with a dear friend, who is suffering with a hip replacement which hasn’t gone well. No doubt I’ll spend half the night worrying about her.

Best wishes to those in the quiet corner and those who are poorly.
I hope that soop is responding well to the antibiotics and will be able to join us in the kitchen soon.
jaxjacky I hope your hip is behaving itself and you are recovering slowly.

Have a pleasant evening folks.

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Jan-26 08:57:46

Redcar both boys were in bed by nine; dgs2 at 7 and dgs1 at nine. I followed them! Dgs2 came bounding in to see me at 7, full of life. He then woke dgs1 who wasn't quite so cheery, 😂
They've had breakfast but are clamouring for second breakfast so sausage and potato scone it'll be soon.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 24-Jan-26 22:21:34

Hello kitchen people.

My daughter is here for an overnight stay. It is good to see her. I made a rather too hot chilli for dinner. I only put in one rounded teaspoon of hot chilli powder together with a red chilli which OH had grown from a very small plant. I cut the stem off and removed the seeds. My lips are still numb! I served it with lashings of plain yogurt and pilaff. We had honey ice cream for pudding made from OH’s honey and it was delicious.

Thinking if the Soops and the FGT2S. 🌹

Sleep 💤 tight.

Good evening everyone. brook it sounds as though you had a good afternoon line dancing. I used to go, until the teacher got pregnant and had to give up! It was really good exercise and fun too, especially if we didn’t concentrate and got lost!

grandmabatty I hope you’ve got Dgs1 to bed now and that they’re not up too early tomorrow morning!

I had fun this afternoon trying to clean some spoons that I thought might be silver but were very dirty. First I tried silver cleaning cloths, which got some of the dirt off. Then I tried lining a bowl with aluminium foil, putting boiling water in the bowl with bicarbonate of soda. The put the spoons in, lots of fizzing and the spoons came out a lot cleaner. Result!

I’m off to bed soon, so night night everyone, sleep well.

Good evening kitchen folk. We've had a lovely time. Dd had forgotten to put in dgs2s night time pull ups so a speedy trip to aldi was needed. Dgs1 stayed at home (my house is 5 minutes away) and he feels very grown up. Dgs2 is in bed after his bath and dgs1 is eating popcorn and watching The Magnificent Seven with me. He's had his bath too. I'll get him to bed at nine then go to mine too. I know, from bitter experience that they will be up at the crack of dawn. Grannmarie I made lentil soup too. Dgs2 had two bowls. I hope your red light isn't anything serious. Brook that sounds like a lovely time.
Good night all.

Grannmarie Sat 24-Jan-26 19:23:52

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.🥰👋 Hope everyone is doing as well as possible, especially Jaxjacky, after her recent setback. 💐

That sounds like a fun afternoon, brook, great way to exercise and fundraise!

Your wee boys will be so excited about their sleepover, Grandmabatty, they'll be high as kites! Hope you all have a good night's sleep.😴😴😴

Well done on your stain removal, GrannyGravy, I'm sure your daughter appreciates it.

Pretty bracelet, Blossoming, I always like a bracelet or bangle on my left wrist, I feel lost without one.

I had a good afternoon with the Wee Boy after school yesterday. I really look forward to seeing him on a Friday, cheers me up.
I've just had a video call from him this evening, telling me all about their family trip to the bowling alley.

I've had a day at home, much needed, to catch up on housework and make a big pot of lentil soup. I must admit I feel a bit better when all the floors and surfaces are clean!
I've got warning lights coming on in my car, DS1 will check it out when he comes tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Saturday evening and a good night's sleep. Thinking especially of our dear Soop, FGTs and all with illness, worries or sorrow. TOYA

brook2704 Sat 24-Jan-26 18:03:55

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
Such a lovely bracelet Blossoming well done
I’m jüst home from an afternoon social line dancing event at the local village hall. We had an enjoyable afternoon, lots of dancing, chatting and teas and home baking. All in aid of charity so it was good that it was so well supported.
I hope Jax is doing ok
Enjoy the sleepover tonight grandmabatty, hope you get some sleep and the boys are good for you
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Baggs

I suggest a long hot soak with soda crystals (or bicarbonate of soda) and a certain well-known washing-up liquid, GrannyGravy. That might even work with synthetic fabrics. At first I assumed the shorts would be cotton but maybe not....

Thank you, soaked in Vanish, and used a Bio liquid washing liquid, as white as new.

Have put soda crystals on my shopping list for this weeks football shorts.

I think DD is rather relieved that football is on the day he sleeps here 😹
