I sympathise with your husband , Cornergran and Roses and lilac as I too am profoundly deaf. Although I wear bilateral hearing aids all the time I am unable to join in conversations and social events as it is impossible to hear. And yes I do find it isolating as I like to think that I am a sociable human being.thanks

I remember Coopers karma. Its all so different now with all the big department stores gone.I loved George Henry Lees and remember having toasted tea cakes in the basement cafe in Hendersons!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 23-Nov-25 11:14:51

A very late good morning 🙋‍♀️

I woke with a horrendous headache, which is not good for my plans.

This weekend is our only free one until the New Year. I must crack on with gift wrapping and make a start on Christmas card writing (I post on 30/11)

It’s wet outside but the sky has patches of blue.

Will read your news later (hopefully 🤞🏻) 🙋‍♀️

Grammaretto Sun 23-Nov-25 11:03:55

Happy birthday Mr Baubles.
May he have many happy returns

RosesandLilac Sun 23-Nov-25 10:45:19

madeleine45 I do lip read, that’s how I realised I was going deaf 20 years ago, when I couldn’t understand what someone was saying unless I could see their face. At that point I had to accept that my hearing was deteriorating.
Lockdown was hell with masks, even now if at the dentist for example, if someone’s wearing a mask I cannot understand what they’re saying. It’s horribly isolating, few people understand what it’s like.
I prefer to avoid going out as much as I can.

karmalady Sun 23-Nov-25 10:34:04

Yes Susan and I still have the Liverpool twang, if I meet any Liverpudlians all the Liverpool accents become stronger as we speak. Such nostalgia for the likes of Coopers

Susan56 Sun 23-Nov-25 09:22:20

Good morning from Shropshire.Sunshine and showers so far.

A sad few days as DD’s FIL is in the hospice receiving palliative care not even two weeks from diagnosis. My heart breaks for them all.We will support them in any way we can.

Congratulations to your DGD Ash.

BlueSapphire a friend in the north west is doing the tapathon today.

karmalady, your comments about remembering your childhood dentists face is the same with me and my brothers. We all have problems with our teeth.I think you were in Liverpool too?

Grandmabatty I am glad you are feeling better.I hope the drs have a better plan for S and that Blossoming is ok.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good morning all. It’s a wet dreich day in Glasgow with heavy grey skies.

Probably an at home day, equivalent to a Swedish hygge one which we call a coory doon day of snuggling in with lamps and candles glowing to lift the gloom. I had a much better sleep last night which puts a better perspective on my day, finding whatever takes my fancy to keep myself busy.

Happy Birthday to your DH baubles and many happy returns of the day. A lovely treat sharing it with DD and her family. 🎂

Best wishes to all for a pleasant Sunday, regardless of the terrible weather.

Marydoll Sun 23-Nov-25 09:09:08

P,S, Mick, I can make a dozen mince pies for about £4. Mincemeat and pastry from Lidl. 😉
Now that thought is in my head........

Marydoll Sun 23-Nov-25 08:57:06

Good morning all from a very wet Glasgow, where it is 5°C.

After a very busy day yesterday, I plan to do little today. Dinner, Scottish steak pie has already been prepared, as well as tomorrow's beef cobbler.
There was a lot to take in at yesterday's Safeguarding training, changes in Discosure Scotland's criteria for PVGs has changed again, it is a minefield.
The poor lady, sitting beside me said, I feel sick, it's all so complicated.
I looked at all the new documents, quicly put them away and planned to be less wooly headed to deal with them, before my meeting with the P.P.
That didn't happen. Before Mass last night, I received a message from the hall keeper, who was looking for a certain document. It just happened to be one of the amended ones, so I have been forced to look at them.

During the meeting, I glanced at my phone, only to see a dozen messages, which were issues, related to our fundraiser next weekend.
Everyone I have talked to, is looking forward to it. It is St. Andrew's Day themed, with Scottish Music, a wee bit of line dancing, a Scottish singalong, sandwiches, cakes and of course Prosecco!

Sar, I feel awful for your granddaughter, it evokes memories of similar circumstances with DS2 I hope this week's meeting brings hope.

Ash # proud grandmother. 1🩰

Maw, you sound so upbeat. I enjoyed reading about your day, I felt as if I was there

Best wishes to all, especially those who are unwell.
Our transplant patient friend is home from hospital. It looks as if the donated marrow is doing it's job.
He is not out of the woods, but we have hope.

Grammaretto Sun 23-Nov-25 08:54:13

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's pouring down. Truly drookit 🌧

Great to read about all the talented DGC but so sorry that yours is in hospital with allergies? Sar53
I hope she finds relief.

My DGC are also doing well. The NZ lad has been performing improv with his school and playing, and winning, water polo. no horses involved

I may make a Christmas cake today but will need to shop first and will check the price of mince pies 🥧 😉

Our pottery group set up our market stall yesterday and I must put my name on the rota to mind it.

Rosiesmaw what a wonderful time you are having in Paris!

I hope everyone has some joy today.

Grandmabatty Sun 23-Nov-25 08:37:56

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and heavy rain. It's an indoors day for me. Ash a huge congratulations to your dgd, and yours too, BlueSapphire. I hope your dance performance goes well. I wanted to be a ballerina but it was never an option. Too short, too curvy and too lacking in ability!
Yesterday I felt a bit better after my previous day in bed. I managed Aldi and did some housework then my aunt and uncle picked me up to go to dgs2s birthday party. He was having a lovely time with his friends, came running over for a quick hug then back to playing. Dgs1 had a few pals there too and I saw him once. Dgs2 had a wee wobbly moment when it all got a bit much for him, but a few cuddles with mum sorted him out. His birthday cake was lovely. He wanted a rainbow cake and dd obliged.
Back home, I pottered a bit then settled down to watch strictly. I've dipped in and out this series but thoroughly enjoyed Blackpool. Dinner was steak and sausage casserole with mash. I enjoyed that too so I might take a portion out of the freezer for tonight.
Today will be quiet. I'll get the rest of the housework done and probably make soup. I must do something about the dining room but the motivation isn't there yet. Have a good day all

BlueSapphire Sun 23-Nov-25 08:20:32

Good morning everyone from a very wet again Northampton; it didn't stop all day yesterday and I was glad I didn't need to go out.
Just spent the day reading and generally doing not very much.

A busier day today as it is our dance performance day where we show off what we have learnt during the.year to friends and family. We have four ballet routines and four tap to perform. One of our tap routines is part of the national tap marathon - the 'Tapathon', and will be performed by dance schools all over the country at the same time as part of our effort to raise funds for Children in Need.
After dancing there will be refreshments and then we have our annual quiz (which my team has won for the last three years out of four!) I have probably jinxed it now!

Will probably get home about four-ish, ready.for a rest!

Maw it sounds as though you are having a wonderful time in Paris; I am quite envious!
Ash, glad your concert.went well. And well done to your DGD; one of my great-nieces (now 17) is in her second year at the Central School of Ballet in London, determined to be a ballerina.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Liberty Sun 23-Nov-25 08:17:31

Good mor Ning from Suffolk where there is a complete rainbow and a sunny start to the day. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one so early in the day.

We had torrential rain all day yesterday so must be the turn of the East for some sun.

We are off on a coach trip tomorrow to Yorkshire with a local coach company for 5 days. Since DH and I stopped driving long distances,we have enjoyed other holidays with them. They collect us by car and take us to the coach and the reverse at the end and the hotels used are usually at least 3 and often 4 star.

We shall enjoy visits to Harewood House,York where we’ll meet up with my dear sister in law and Harrogate.

I hope that those feel are unwell and/ or caring for others find some comfort today and all have a good day.

ginny Sun 23-Nov-25 08:15:52

Good morning . No rain at the moment and the wind has dropped. I expect it will soon return.
A good day with our friends yesterday. We explored Arudal popping in to cafes and pretty shops to warm up.
Not sure what we shall do today .
Lovely to hear of all the musical events
Wishing all a good day especially our poorly friends.

GrannyIvy Sun 23-Nov-25 08:15:24

Good morning from a wet Cambridgeshire but not quite as cold.

I am in hibernation mode and quietly getting ready for Christmas. Lots of on line ordering done for the family and may write Christmas cards today. Other than that cooking a roast dinner later and cosying down reading my Christmas book which I am enjoying a recommended read from DD2.

Wishing a good day to all whatever you may be doing. Thinking of those with worries and struggles 💐

madeleine45 Sun 23-Nov-25 08:08:20

Morning Mick and all GN's on this miserable very dark and wet sunday in North Yorkshire. Can hear the rain on the window, it feels very cold, and cant even see the outline of the tree. Have not put good as it woud be definitely the wrong expression for how I am feeling right now. Having had a very poor night, little sleep, with added wretched cramp, and now I have given up , and am waiting for precious Bach and coffee to restart my morning and improve life. I havent dared to go into the shower yet as my leg is still juddering and painful. Things can only get better (cant they?)

Yesterday a quietish day, The weather was cold but better than friday, and so it was very busy in the town. Didnt go very early, but got The Yorkshire Post and a few bits and my goodness it was very busy in the market and heaving in Cafe Nero's. Well with the way the weather had been so cold on friday , everyone seemed to have come out to grab things while it was dry. I was pleased to get my Yorkshire Post, called in the town hall lower bit where another little pet group had a craft fair to raise fund and was pleased to see the doggy fridge magnet man there. When I went into cafe nero there were queues stretching outisde the doorand it was frantic, with the staff at full stretch and with an added saturday girl they were still struggling to keep up with business. I couldnt have stood for such a log time so went and found a table up in the back corner, where I was happy to just sit and wait for the queue to die down a bit. Lots of people with dogs, so I toldthem about the man beingin the town hall place with the fridge magnets, and hope that brought him a bit more business and everyone I spoke to said they planned to go across and look, so it always feels good to be able to pass on anything nice to people . I heard the manageress say she would have to step back from serving as they were running out of cups etc and she needed to do some washing up. When I eventually got my coffee and apricot croissent treat she said it had been chaos from 7am and never stopped all morning. They usually get a bit of a lull and are able to restock and tidy up etc, but it went on solidly all morning and the new saturday girl did well but was rather a tough start to her new job.

In the afternoon, whilst taking breaks to have a read of the paper and listen to radio 3, I was wading through paperwork, looking for the missing Flanders and Swann book and ripping off address and anything private and then ditching lots of paperwork. No luck with the F@S book, but found 3 useful things to add to the programme including Warning by Jenny Joseph anda poem that I had written myself, plus another rather good thing written by an 85 year old lady in usa about if she had her life over again and it would be more pleasures and less boring stuff. I agree, I agree. Whilst I am struggling with various things at the moment, if I cannot sleep, it is good to look back and think of the many things that I have done that have given me life and pleasure over the years. I may not get to Macchu Picu now but I have sailed and travelled to many places, sung in lovely concerts, met a lot of great people, so have much to look back on with joy. Even those odd times when the choice did not turn out to be very good, it was my choice and I learnt from it. Fingers crossed that I can continue in the same vein.

One thing I found in my pile of papers was the appointment reminder for this next tuesday afternoon , for another cancer treatment, which I had carefully forgot about until now. Not looking forward to the treatment, but hoping things are ok. Fingers crossed that I get the results before christmas, good or bad. I dont like waiting for results for things like this, nothing I can do to hurry them up or change them which adds to the feelings of stress that I am not good at removing. The yoga lady has reminded me of some exercises that I used to do and think I shall have to begin a pattern of doing them in the morning to concentrate the mind and try and get myself into the way of using relaxation techniques to keep me going. Well it is a little bit lighter now , but not what I want to see, rain and feeling very cold. I am sorry for all the people today who were doing a christmas food market in the high street. Unless it improves a lot, dont think they will do well at all. For many of them , they are little business people who put in lots of effort to make things like honey etc and lovely home made sausages and a venison man comes , so I know it is usually a good revenue for them, but today wont be their best, as cant see any casual trade coming by, just those people who will be going especially to get things that they know about. I expect cafe nero will be doing a roaring trade in take out coffees for the poor frozen stall holders today.

I shall have no incentive to go out at all , and will at least have my cheering radio programmes of desert island discs and private passions to listen to, whilst I plough through more piles of books and music. However I am determined to rejig the piles of books as I check through them, so that at the least I will end up with books in the right categories, and even though I havent got the wretched dresser out and a decent bookcase added, my books will be at the ready in the correct groups. I shall have to be strict about putting books into piles, and NOT opening them and finding myself sat on the floor reading things with the time going by and nothing sorted.

I also intend to get my calendar up to date with appointments etc., and must find my MOT documents and check that it is the 8th December and ring the garage up and book it in, so that I am covered. So whilst I have the files out, if I am in the right mood I am going to check through them, and making a note on the calendar for due dates for renewals etc. At this time of year if I have to send off documents or whatever it will take longer so need to allow extra time. Whether all or any of this planned virtuous effort takes place I dont know but the musical stuff has to be top of the list as it is tomorrow afternoon. I also need to check what I plan to wear is clean and ironed. So that is about all I plan to get sorted today.

Mick what a price for the mince pies! At that price I will be doing without. Used to make my own of course, but now living alone and with diabetes I dont do much cake baking, as I am not supposed to eat them in any case, so it will encourage me to be virtuous.GrandMattie, hope you enjoy your musical weekend and hear something you enjoy, to your favourite tune. Sar53 hope the AGM goes well. Do you have a boat yourself? Do hope that your DGD S improves soon and that they find some better medication for her.RoseandLilac, sorry you had a disaster with the cooking. When you think how much cooking we do over the years it is a rare occurence really but never the less annoying when it happens. Are you able to lip read or do you use makaton at all? I have learnt a very little of makaton but if there was a course on it I would go as I think it is helpful. Also I dont think people make enough effort to look directly at you, so that you have at least the opportunity to lip read. It is so tiring when you have to concentrate so hard to follow what is happening isnt it?

Well a very slight improvement , it has actually stopped raining but that is all. Fingers crossed for it to improve more , but not much chance Hope the weather improves for us all and you have a peaceful and pleasant day

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s just light here and looks dry with grey clouds
Your poor DGD S Sar what a shame that she’s suffering so much, I really hope something can be done to improve things soon for her ❤️
I’m looking forward to our weekly catch up call with DS this morning, it’s always good to hear his news. Then a quick visit to DD2s for coffee and to see everyone there too. I’m going to try to find out what they’d all like for Christmas so I can get that job done
A very big well done to your DGD Ash - very proud grandparents!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 23-Nov-25 08:04:17

Morning all from a slightly gusty and chilly West Oxfordshire.

I prepared the Christmas pudding mix yesterday and will steam it for eight hours after breakfast. While that’s happening I may do a bit of baking or make some ice cream.

I have some click and collect parcels from Waitrose but I might ask OH to get them as I don’t want to leave the pudding!

The colonoscopy preparation kit arrived yesterday. The preparation starts tomorrow with a bland diet.

Have a good day everyone. I hope all is well with the FGT2S.

kittylester Sun 23-Nov-25 08:00:28

Good morning all from a soggy North Leicestershire.

Our neighbour, who needed brain surgery after being mugged while on holiday in Barzil, came home a couple of days ago so we will pop round to see her.

Then, roast chicken and the papers.

Yesterday we popped to see DD3 and Co and, especially, their gorgeous new kitten.

Have the best day possible everyone.

baubles Sun 23-Nov-25 07:52:39

Good morning from damp South Lanarkshire.

Huge congratulations to your granddaughter Ash, how wonderful to have a ballet dancer in the family.

DGD’s team didn’t win yesterday but she played well and was happy with her performance.

It’s DH’s birthday today, we’ve been asked to celebrate over at DD’s house which will be lovely.

Wishing everyone a good day.

EkwaNimitee Sun 23-Nov-25 07:47:37

Seems to be wet, wet, wet over the entire country.

EkwaNimitee Sun 23-Nov-25 07:46:21

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very wet Carlisle.
I won't be going out for my planned post-breakfast walk, maybe later if it clears up.

Yesterday I went for an early shop in Sainsbury's, it was still rather dark so I'll have to adapt myself to going out later I think. I don't like driving in the dark, what with over bright headlights and cyclists who don't have any at all.
I rounded up some items I can't get in Tesco and then headed out of town to the deli/local butcher, mainly in the hunt for partridge and pheasant. Currently, they are excelling themselves in their supply of Christmas goodies which I managed to resist, with difficulty though!
Mince pies in particular are banned till after December 1. I used to start in on them when they first appeared in the shops, generally around September 1....with the results you might expect on your figure. It might be worth paying Mick's quoted price for decent ones, the usual cheaper offerings I now find too sweet and the pastry too soft and crumbly.
I had a long chat with my sister on return and read the papers. After lunch, I went out and implanted more crocuses in the lawn, still more to go. It's got me started thinking of spring. Only a month to go now before the days start lengthening!

If the rain continues today, I'll be reading the papers and idling away on the computer plus I may start another book. Also, I need to write some of those christmas cards. The price of them and their postage now, makes those mince pies look cheap!

I hope you enjoy your day everyone and special thoughts to your Gd Sar.

luluaugust Sun 23-Nov-25 07:38:40

Good morning from a wet W Kent. Wrapped up a few parcels yesterday and hoping to do a few more today. Piles of ironing are looking at me and lunch needs cooking, I don’t think I am going to have a quiet day.
Best wishes

Redcar Sun 23-Nov-25 07:38:37

Good morning everyone from a very wet mid Essex. It’s not particularly cold though, but rained for most of yesterday and hope it will clear up this morning. I want to put some lights in the garden later and don’t want to do that if it’s raining.
The 10 year old and her mum were at the Olympic swimming pool all day because the 10 year old was swimming in a competition among about 20 swimming clubs. She came third in her front crawl race and we’re very proud of her. My son in law came over and did some minor tasks I’d been saving for him! He got all the Christmas decorations and tree out of the loft and I need to decide what to use and what to get rid of! I also need to decide where the tree will go in the living room. It won’t go up just yet.
Sar poor S, I hope the meeting next week can come up with some answers and that she will soon feel better.
rosie what a lovely day yesterday! I hope today is as enjoyable.
mick I bet those mince pies are nicer and bigger than the supermarket ones!
DD2 will be here for a quick visit, so I must hide the Christmas presents I’ve got for the DGDs and which are in the dining room waiting to be wrapped up!
Thinking of all those who are struggling in any way.
Hoping for a peaceful Sunday for us all.
