Hello on this dark and very wet day! I'm quite new here fo forgive me if I haven't put this in the correct place.
I am having my first shingles jab in Tuesday. I'm normally fine with all the usual vaccines ,but for some breakfast unexplained reason I am in a bit of a stew about this one.
Have any of you had it,and if so how did you feel afterwards?
Thanks in advance .

I have had the Shingles vaccine. The double one as I have health problems. It was all fine no issues. My friend had the same and no issues. My DH had the single one and no issues. Shingles is not very nice to endure so get the vaccine if your doctors thinks it’s best for you.

Both my wife and I has sore arms for about 36 hours.

Had both jabs. No side effects at all.

I would appreciate it if anyone knows the answer to this. I think I might be immune to the virus that causes it. My children had it and I cared for them and did'nt catch it. Also I was a teacher and was close to children who were contagious and didn't catch it. Is there such a thing as being immune? Would having the jab compromise my 'immunity' if it is there?

Had mine about 2 weeks ago, just a ( very) sore arm and a bit itchy but I think that may have been the nurse 😅

So many replies, thank you all I appreciate it

Had it a couple of years ago and have no memory of problems. It’s better than catching shingles.

theworriedwell Sun 23-Nov-25 19:34:41

I did feel pretty bad after it which was a bit of a shock as I've never had a problem with any other vaccination. I'd have it again if it was needed, I've had shingles twice the first time I had it very severely so a bit of discomfort after the jab wasn't a problem.

You might not have a problem, you might feel a bit rough like I did but it will be worth it.

I don't even remember having my shingles jag I was at the nurse one time and asked if I could get my shingles jag...she looked up my notes and told me I already had it, I honestly don't remember having it .

Catgrann I hope your shingles jab goes well.

I had my first one a while ago, just a sore arm. My second one is booked for 1st December, so hoping that’ll be trouble free too.
Paracetamol and hot water bottle at the ready just in case - any excuse for a bit of pampering!

I had a sore arm with both vaccinations, but nothing else

M0nica Sun 23-Nov-25 17:14:33

We have both had the shingles jab without a problem and I would agree with all those who say better the jab than the disease. My mother, aunt and daughter, aged about 20 at the time all had shingles and were not very well at all.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 23-Nov-25 17:13:08

I had a sore arm, but was otherwise fine.
I'm glad to hear that you're going ahead with the jab, Catgrann. I worked with a nice woman, not a malingerer at all, who had months off work with shingles.
Meeting her in town at the time, she walked very slowly, and each breath caused her pain: she looked like her ( much) older sister.

Harris27 Sun 23-Nov-25 17:13:01

I had it absolutely fine except really sore arm.

NotAGran55 Sun 23-Nov-25 17:09:23

I had the first jab a couple of weeks ago with no ill effects, other than a sore arm for 24 hours.
The practitioner was a bit brutal jabbing it in though!

TillyTrotter Sun 23-Nov-25 17:06:55

I hope so too for you Ziplok 🤞
I don’t want to cause anxiety for anyone having them but not everyone is absolutely fine, but having had Shingles 3 times it is definitely better than a bad dose of Shingles.

TillyTrotter

My experience was the same as Ziplok but only on the second part of the jabs (Shingrix).
The first one was fine - just a sore arm.

I’m hoping my second shot will be trouble free when I have it in May. 🤞😁

I just had my first jab of 2 this week. I, like you, was nervous. It went well. I felt a bit achy in my joints for 2 days and then fine. I actually spent the next day raking up 10 bags of leaves from the yard. I felt worse after my Covid vaccines to be honest, which typically had me in bed for about 36 hours afterwards.

Get the shot! It is worth it.

Grandyma Sun 23-Nov-25 15:37:31

I am the world’s worst for side effects and like you was extremely anxious about having my shingles jabs last year. I needn’t have worried at all, I felt slightly unwell but nothing that a couple of paracetamol didn’t deal with. Even if you do get side effects they can’t be as bad as getting Shingles. Good luck 💐

Catgrann Sun 23-Nov-25 14:47:57

Thanks to all of you who have replied. I will have the vaccine, and having read all the comments I feel a bit better about it smile
I have had shingles and apart from being very itchy it was nothing to write home about, BUT I was only 22 so that probably explains it x

Ziplok Sun 23-Nov-25 14:37:10

As other posters say, shingles itself can be very unpleasant indeed, and can have serious effects on some people, so please have the vaccine. As I say, my side effects, though not brilliant, were no where near as bad as a bout of shingles would likely be.

Ziplok Sun 23-Nov-25 14:34:35

I had some slight side effects, but nothing too bad or long lasting - As the evening wore on I began to feel a bit shivery, so took myself to bed with a hot water bottle. I woke through the night feeling a bit nauseous, but it passed and I wasn’t actually sick. Felt fine the next day, just a slightly sore arm.
I believe these symptoms can also apply to the flu and Covid vaccines (though I never had any side effects from them apart from the usual sore arm).
Take a paracetamol if you can tolerate it, which will help with the achy arm.

Pame Sun 23-Nov-25 14:24:35

I've had my first shingles jab and apart from a sore are there were no ill effects. I'm now waiting to hear about my 2nd jab.

mokryna Sun 23-Nov-25 13:56:04

I had the inoculation last year with no side effects. It was very difficult to find here, however, the French SSu. finally put it on the free list, before it was 100euros.
