WHSmith, or whatever it is called now had 20% off everything, so I bought biros, Christmas paper and labels, everything I wanted 👍

Shopping in Manchester today. John Lewis and M&S all had 20-25% off everything. A good time to get stuff if you need it. Most stores had discounts. It felt like the January Sales used to be.

No, I’ve deleted all the emails claiming big Black Friday savings. I’m not on the look out for anything at the moment, so won’t be drawn in by these supposed savings.

Does anyone else think Black Friday has been going on since the end of October? I’ve had emails from various places promoting it for weeks.

Oh, and let’s not forget, it will soon be Cyber Monday. 😂

Ordered something from Argos for Gdd2, after she showed me in the catalogue. Phew, since I hadn’t a clue. It’s pretty trashy, but she’s still only 5…
But there was 10% off, plus 240 Nectar points. 🙂

I don't 'buy' into Black Friday. I'm not American and I believe it started there. I am trying only to buy what is required.

No- bought some pork for Sunday lunch and bread to make sandwiches for a meeting tomorrow! Black Friday is a US import which means nothing here- apart from businesses trying to cash in.

My usual Maybelline mascara was 50% off last week, so I bought 2 👍.
Alerted to the deal by Mumsnet.

We are obviously all very sensible!im glad you are all reinforcing my attitude.

Purplepixie Fri 28-Nov-25 15:57:02

No! It’s a con.

Greenfinch Fri 28-Nov-25 15:51:50

No . I don’t need anything . A bargain is only a bargain if you need it and there has been a lot of publicity this year to put us on our guard. I don’t like the idea at all.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 28-Nov-25 15:47:02

Not yet but I am going to order some make up (foundation)and possibly lipsticks as M&S have a 25% off beauty on at the moment. It includes all the big name brands so it will be a good saving.

I bought a 2026 diry refill for my filofax. But it did not come with any Black Friday reduction. Last night I ordered a draft proofing kit for my front door. Again it did not come with a BlackFriday reduction. To be honest I didn't realise this Friday was Black Friday

fancythat Fri 28-Nov-25 14:57:44

No.
Bought something on Ama zon that I usually buy from there. Saved £1.50. whoo hoo.

Happened to be out today. Happened to come across a town Christmas market.
And outside some stalls.
Bought nothing.

I do like to contribute to local towns and their skills, but nothing whatsoever took my eye.

Labradora Fri 28-Nov-25 13:56:41

No I haven't either.
If I genuinely needed or wanted something and would get a significant reduction on this particular day then I would definitely do it. I don't want or need anything at present so I'm not tempting myself to make impulse buys.
Impulse buys never end well for me.

Boz Fri 28-Nov-25 13:54:59

ritish Garden Centres have a BF offer on small Hellebores for £5 instead of £6.
Bought a half-price Dryrobe for swimming but always cheaper out of season.
I don't really need big ticket stuff.

BlueBelle Fri 28-Nov-25 13:48:39

No i havent

eddiecat78 Fri 28-Nov-25 13:46:29

It is a big con. People are encouraged to buy stuff they don't need and prices are increased earlier so they appear to be a bargain.
I support Patrick Grant's Community Clothing - he never has any sales but has constant prices all year - which are at a level to be able to use good quality materials and pay fair wages to British workers - who are employed constantly throughout the year not according to huge peaks and troughs according to demand

Jaxjacky Fri 28-Nov-25 13:46:04

None here, I don’t need anything and am still awaiting two Christmas wish lists so I can complete my festive shopping.

PamelaJ1 Fri 28-Nov-25 13:38:46

I’ve just watched the news and apparently we, as a population, will be spending over £3.6bn today.
I’m not spending anything. Am I odd? I can’t think of anything that I need and I can’t be bothered to trawl through the ‘bargains’ to find the best value.
I’m also a dreadful cynic and am suspicious that it’s all a big con.
Have any of you saved a fortune today? Should I change my attitude?
