Not out of a room as such. At a local rugby match I got up from sitting on the grass and heard a ripping noise. My pants had split from front to back so had to excuse myself from the after match gathering

They are raffling off crib sets at my local church. A little girl kept asking when would she know if she won because she was really taken with it.

I bought some and decided if I won I would give to the little girl.

Years ago someone won an enormous fairy castle cake in a raffle and brought it to our house as she knew we had kids.

I would have bought the tickets, and if I won I would have donated it to a care home of some other local charity.

Just because you win on a raffle doesn't mean you have to keep it! It is all about fund raising after all.

I never avoid having to buy raffle tickets because someone benefits.

One time a colleague I had worked with came back into the office with her baby for us to look at. Everyone was gathered around and cooing. I made a couple of suitable remarks so no one could say Id ignored her.

Oh thats a good weight.
I think she has your eyes.
Etc.

Then she began to pass the child around like a parcel. I am child free for a reason and have really no interest in babies. At the same time I didnt want to hurt this mum's feelings as she was obviously extremely proud to show off her baby. So I went to the loo to escape and sat there for nearly 15 minutes. When I retrned they had all gone up to tea break. Phew!

But that wasn’t the question Bluebelle.

A) chances are you wouldn’t win
B) if you did, give it to a friend (or an enemy)
C) be upfront and say ‘beautiful as it is I live in too tiny a house put the ticket back for another go ‘

Recently, I attended a social afternoon for the 'retired' of our local church community. It was an afternoon tea with a floral arrangements demonstration by a local florist. The demonstration went on for quite some time while she created some huge arrangements with all sorts of very long and huge greenery. The exhibits were offered for the raffle and, as we had all bought tickets, it meant that we had the chance of winning one of them. They were beautiful but no way would I have had room in my tiny cottage for such a large display. In panic, as the raffle was about to be drawn, I excused myself and said I had to go home as I had left the dog alone for too long and he would be fretting. My dog is very happy to be left alone. In no way would I have wanted to offend the florist by saying I could not take it home. Have you ever had to bow out of a room or remove yourself with an excuse? (light hearted!)
