Day-to-day activities in retirement – any clubs or meet-ups you’d recommend?

For those of us who don’t know what NWR is perhaps you can enlighten us

Yes! I would definitely second NWR. Our local group only started up this year, so we were all new to each other. We've had some very enjoyable meet ups, usually coffee mornings at a local pub or alternate weeks with an evening rendezvous again at a pub. Usually there is a topic, nothing divisive like politics More general subjects, favourite films, favourite holidays, inspiring people. some local history. A good one was, art you like, art you don't like. We have a monthly book club up and running, we've done a few walks, there are offshoots for say craft and gardening. We had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch a week or so ago. I've met some nice women. The only other women's group I ever belonged to in the distant past, was a post natal one, those could be fraught at times and they were definitely something you grow out of, sometimes sooner rather than later. This one isn't like that, it's nice and relaxed.

I go to NWR most weeks. Similar to WI, but less structured and more focussed on chat, discussion and friendship. I love it!

I retire next week and was interested in this. I don’t want full on days out but maybe crafts or new skill I could take up. I live in Tyne wear.

It would depend on where you live as to what you could access. You’ve listed the types of places and events - your next step is to look at those local to you? Are you in a village, near a town, in a city / do you have a car or access to transport?

Yes, I'm retired.

U3A. Our local branch is brilliant .. something for everyone ... active groups like walking, holidays, languages, music, poetry, coffee meets, theatre etc. I run classical concert coach trips for them. They have a rock band and a recorder group.
