When someone makes your day

My day was made recently watching youngest grandson in his nativity. He was brilliant, of course!

Yesterday evening I received a video message from DS in Japan of 12 year old DGD2 singing and dancing with her 13 year old cousin in the school’s Christmas Gala concert at our local comprehensive school here. It was a duet and they did so well it made my day.Isn’t it incredible how a video taken here can be sent to Japan and then forwarded to me all in a matter of moments via WhatsApp? One of the more positive uses of social media!

Well I hope I made someone else’s day yesterday.
I had to sign for a delivery, usually they are left in the porch.
The young man held out the pad and I couldn’t help saying Oh you do smell nice.
His face lit up with the widest smile and he said Oh thank you.
It was very impulsive on my part but I’m so pleased I did it.

How lovely for you. Yes it does brighten life up when something like that happens.
In the summer a friend and I were walking to a local restaurant to celebrate another friend’s birthday lunch. A young woman stopped her car and said how lovely we looked, like we were on a fashion shoot. It certainly did make two 70 year olds day ( maybe year!)

I had a chat about Christmas with my youngest GC. They are still not sure if they believe in Father Christmas or not but they obviously still find Christmas exciting and magical which is lovely.

We got into a local club recently and we didn’t have to go through the usual admittance procedures. One of the members told us it was because it was a ‘privilege ’ to have us and we were ‘nice people’. I felt quite emotional about it, and they are a lovely bunch who have made us feel a part of the club from the outset.

This can misfire.
A few months ago my friend and I were in a restaurant, we are both 80+, me much nearer 90 when the man at the next table remarked how “well turned out we both were” all that was missing was “for your age”.
My friend was furious and felt insulted and I’m afraid her face showed it.
It did come across as condescending, it is all in the way it is said.

Young grandchild ran up to me this week with a big cuddle and said "love you grandma" it's the first time she's done that. Priceless.

It's surprising how a little thing can make our day better

I don't want to sound all sanctimonious, but I honestly feel that we can make someone's day with just a smile or a kind word.

Totally agree, we are all quick to complain, I always try to compliment if I receive good service.

It's amazing how a pleasant comment can make you feel great for the rest of the day
I was arranging flowers at church when some of the other arrangers said that I had a really beautiful voice.

Last week I had a coffee and a cake in Marks and Spencers restaurant. There was a family of mother, father and three young children on the table next to me enjoying a meal. The children were well behaved, sitting up straight in their seats and eating their meals using the knives and forks correctly.

Before I left, I just had to compliment the parents on their children's lovely behaviour. I was rewarded with a big smile from all of them.

I always comment to the parents of well behaved children because it doesn’t just happen by chance. I am surprised at how gratified and surprised they are but I know how much I appreciated such a comment years ago when our children were young.

You are so right grannysomerset. I remember mentioning in the school office that I was expecting no 5. A teacher who was in there said 'How lovely. We can cope with as many of your children as you like'

It must have made me feel good because I remember it 38 years later.

No wonder you remembered that all these years later kitty that was a huge and genuine compliment!

A chat with my cousin on the phone last night. We resonate with each other and think the same way. I never take offence if she gives me advice which is always sound and grounded.
