Samsung printer decided it's had enough!

The other thing is, with the newer printers, if you subscribe to instant ink, the printer becomes locked to only using HP cartridges - it does a firmware update locking it. Now we usually do only use HP cartridges, but I'd like to keep the option to use cheaper 3rd party ones if I wanted (eg if we're suddenly in bad financial circumstances).

Oh sorry :-) We had it with the previous printer, and it was ok unless you went over the monthly page limit you had subscribed for. And there are some real horror stories about enormous bills! I didn't find it saved any less and was more hassle working out how many pages we needed every month as sometimes it was very little and sometimes a large document would need printing out eg and go over the limit. Or you have a higher limit and then it's not cheap. The cartridges for our new printer are £30 and last a long time - I just buy new ones whenever I put the last lot of new ones in, so we never run out.

I agree about instant ink, less hassle once you have got it installed 😖

I have to disagree about instant ink. It has saved me a fortune in cartridges.

Did you try changing the fuse in the plug? :-) Our last printer went like this after 10 years, and it was the wifi unit that had gone, so it could photocopy but not print. It was cheaper to buy a new printer. If you're looking for one, we got this one and it's great. Always had HP printers and they last a very long time - last one 10 years, the one before longer than that but it didn't have wifi so we "upgraded". This one does printing, scanning and most other options needed. But it's been very reliable. Tip - don't go for the instant ink option - it's a hassle and rip off - better to just buy the cartridges. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09LZ6WWQ8?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&tag=gransnetforum-21

I did say that some printers are not compatible, not all printers. Friends, who are tech savvy have had to buy a new printer.

My current printer and also DH's are All in Ones, I love them!!!

I won't know until I install Windows 11, who knows, i may be lucky!

I have an HP1010 Laser Printer which is in excess of 20 years old. When windows 10 came about it would not work but a found an HP Universal Driver which worked to a fashion but had the occasional hissy fit when I would have to reboot the computer and printer. When I changed to windows 11 still had the occasional reboot but with windows updates over the last 12 months it now works perfectly.

Never ditch a printer because "windows" will not be compatible, there is always a fix somewhere for older printers and if the printers generally do a good job there is no reason to replace them.

I have found recently that Microsoft updates have messed up my HP printer.

Have you checked that you have the most up to date drivers.

There is an issue with Windows 11, some printers are not compatible.

I need a new PC, but will probably also need a new printer, to accomodate Windows 11.
I swear by HP. I always purchased them for school, they are workhorses.

Do a factory reset, there will be a YouTube video explaining how.

Set us again as a new machine and keep everything crossed.

We have had three printers in the last 7 years! They never work for long even when we rarely use them.

I often find that the plug in to the printer has come out - just a little.

I have a Samsung ML-2165W laser printer. Love it but since we had a power cut last week it's given up the ghost. Tried everything, unplugging, rebooting, watching the Youtube where it did re start and produced a few technical pages re the printer but nothing I understood. This also happened about a year ago after another power cut but eventually just came back to life by itself but doesn't seem to want to do it this time. Am I missing something? We're with BT, did ring them and the very nice young man tried but couldn't help. I'm just wanting to give it one more try before I buy a new one. Any help gratefully appreciated.
