I regularly go on a couple of the games threads and have never noticed anything suspicious. The other players are regular GN posters. Am I missing something?

I think Bluebelle is referring to user names, too, not games threads? I’ve seen a few of these poster names made up of numbers and letters, but not too many. How ever, there are threads I don’t visit, so they might be more prolific on those threads.

No nothing to do with the games for a couple of nights we were infiltrated with usernames made up of letters and numbers that just seem to be there to disrupt. I thought
I might be quite wrong and they’re all new people who are wonderful but it just seemed a bit strange as they seemed to arrive at the same time

Yes, Bluebelle, I think the same as you do.

There are some trolls floating about, GN are quite good at having a look in my experience.

Once on MN there was a group of women who used to troll hunt, I understand why they did it and sort of didn't blame them but it was against the rules. Anyway they were all banned and set up their own little corner on reddit. Ironically they all then fell for a troll who pretended to be one of them.
As you can tell I spend too much time on here and MN

How do you actually spot a troll?
I have seen quite a few Zombie Threads, and have been taken in by them.
Also, obvious advertising, but someone has usually zapped them.

Well yes because if you troll hunt, you are probably going to get it wrong sometimes, which is why it is against the rules. They were I think doing it out of good motives but yes they sometimes made mistakes.
On here, rightly or wrongly, I assume any thread that details a highly complex family problem ( and goes on forever) is a troll. As someone mentioned weird user names sometimes are a red flag, like someone has just made something up on the spot.

I planned to go to a meetup once but then realised the thread had been infiltrated by a troll. This person was younger, had problems, needed a lift etc etc but I think we sussed her/him.
Consequently, I've never felt like going to a meetup.

Weird letter-and-number usernames are usually ones which have been automatically issued to their owners. That is probably why a sudden rush of dodgy members is quite often accompanied by these names.
