Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark and as far as I can tell dry morning in North Yorkshire. Probably because there is no rain left after the endless deluge yesterday.
Today is going to have to be a rest and recuperate or rather catch up from what was not done yesterday, and apart from hopefully going to the games night tonight, I have no set plans for the day, although much to catch up on and one of the first things is to discover where the borrowers have put my big bag of assorted christmas cards , which seem to have disappeared.
Yesterday I went up swaledale to the funeral of a friend from the swale singers choir, who I had sung with for over 20 years. Of course as always seems to happen on funeral days, the rain was already coming down in sheets before I set off and never stopped all day. Fortunately I had allowed extra time, partly the automatic plan, as one cannot be late for a funeral and need to allow for whatever is on the road, and also I knew there would be some flooding on the way to avoid. Good job too, as not only were there the normal puddles traffic etc etc., but a big building site where a huge lorry was struggling to get into a narrow entrance, and then having chosen the best route to avoid the likely flooded area, the road was closed for what reason I dont know , meaning I had to go back via the likely flooded road. Anyway I got up to Muker and found a place to park, quite near the church.
The service went very well and her grandchildren played the piano and spoke very well, and Muker silver band were there to play and especially our Swaledale song, and it was all very moving. After the service we went into the church hall for refreshments and I was able to meet up with friends and old choir members and remember many occasions, when we had sung together and the various little happenings in the festival.
I left and drove down to Richmond, and called on a friend and old neighbour from where I used to live. I had hoped to have a bit of a walk up in Swaledale and maybe call for coffee in Reeth, but the endless rain put paid to that, so it was good to catch up with news and views, and asking after grandchildren, remembering them as little ones, rather surprised to hear 2 of them are now at college. Where does the time go to? I then took myself off to a large Tesco nearby , which used to be my regular one to visit, and was greeted by a lovely lady who worked at the customer service counter, when I asked for the disability scooter key by "My goodness , I thought you were dead!" as it had been so long since I called there. We had a laugh and a bit of a catch up, and then I did a bit of shopping , and was glad to drive home in the dark and the rain, with so many lights being set too high on cars. (Does no one ever check their angle these days?)
Home at last, I was just too weary to do anything apart from shove stuff in the fridge and get a bite to eat. Had thought on the way home that I would do various jobs and some cards but just too weary, so it was an early bed, and just listened to some radio 3 and thought over the day. So today will be spent catching up hopefully, and if the day is dry I can go down the town on the buggy hopefully. I also plan to ring a friend I havent seen for some time. Funerals remind you to keep in touch, no one knows what can happen in the future.
GrandMattie you are such a busy person. Wonderful biscuits and baking and you will be rivalling Keillers in the marmalade making at this rate . would love to be able to reach out for one of your very well decorated christmas trees. Bellasnana hope you find the little boys a bit better today, and that you can find a little time for you to perhaps have a nap complete with cat. I miss my cats, especially on a day when I get little sleep. They were soothing to stroke and were, of course , a living hot water bottle on cold days. Pantglas, no doubt you can sort out the men with one hand tied behind your back if you chose to! Have you heard that song "Cos Im a Woman, think it was sung by Peggy Lee, which starts off " I can wash up 44 dishes and do (?) something or other , at the same time, cos Im a woman, W O M A N etc. Singing of the multitasking that we all do. Mind you it is easier sorting out young men and boys, rather than adults , who are quite likely to complain or stubbornly refuse to do the practical whatever. Greyduster hope the day unfolds to include something good for you too.
Well just listening to Bach before 7 and then need to slowly start my day. Got the notepad at the ready to start jotting down the various jobs I need to do, and then will also poke about the kitchen to see what shopping I might need, and look at any gaps, so that I can get them filled and not be rushing about on christmas eve for something vital I have forgotten. I think actually after breakfast I need to look through all the emails etc etc and see if there is anything of importance to deal with today. Hopefully by the end of the day, I will have caught up a bit and be able to enjoy the games night .
wishing everyone a pleasant day where things are found, jobs completed and there is time for a little rest and catch up with a friend
