Good morning everyone from a grey and dry Northampton, but showers expected later. I am walking round to a friends this morning to deliver a card and present, so hope I can do it before the rain comes. I also need to call in at my newsagent to pay my paper bill.

Didn't manage to join the walking group yesterday; it was still raining, and then got involved in a long phone call with BT to try and sort an ongoing problem, which I think has been achieved.

So after that I wrapped my remaining presents then had a sort out and cull of my gift wrap storage box, then tidied the glory hole that is the cupboard under the stairs. Spent the rest of the afternoon reading.

No cooking tonight as there is enough left of yesterday's chicken hotpot.

Wishing all a pleasant and productive day.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Dry and cold at the moment here in South Yorkshire with a moody sunrise going on - it will be very dramatic when it gets going.
Yesterday morning it was pouring down but stopped just in time for the window cleaner to do his stuff. I was so tired from little sleep yesterday that I was almost afraid to sit down for long in case I dropped off, so I did some laundry, gave the kitchen a good clean and then, as it was dry, cleaned the inside of my car. Then I sat down and dropped off!! Coffee was stone cold when I woke up and it was tea time.
Today is writers group at the library - our last meet this year. Then I must make some mince pies to give to my niece tomorrow, and wrap a present for her little granddaughter.

Bellas it is almost criminal to put a knife in that cake; it’s a work of art!

Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning from a cold dark northwest coast.
Second night for me using mouth tape. As a heavy snorer, I thought I would give it a go. Didn’t notice any improvement yesterday as far as my singing at the music club goes. I didn’t realise it was the last meeting, having been away for two, and thought there might be one next week, so had not dressed festively like the others (apart from our Jehovah Witness couple who don’t celebrate Christmas). I did wear red trousers however and as I was hosting, had my usual string lights on the desk.
I might go to a folk music meeting tonight, will see how I feel.

Lovely photos today and thoughts to all our poorlies🎄🌺

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark and chilly North Yorkshire morning. Cant hear any rain yet but we are promised a miserable wet and chilly day all through. I started the day very early and badly with cramp yet again. So despite being awake so early have only just very gingerly got up and moving with care. Looking forward to Bach before 7 shortly to cheer my morning and restart it. I have managed to get the washing in and started, although dont think I shall be able to put any of it out, perhaps just outside on the clothes horses for a little blow before the rain descends. Seems a mad day to do washing, but with lots of other jobs and things needing to be done, I have to take the chance to get mundane jobs done as and when I can.

Yesterday I spent all day trying to sort out some of the chaos and find things I needed. Was successful to a certain point, but of course still think that I am 40 and fit and that I can do quite a lot of jobs, when in reality I am now a plodder, taking much longer than I want to do things. Never mind I did manage to do a fair bit

I got my prescription, which was my main worry , that it would not be minus some important things and so fingers crossed am covered for the christmas period, and wont need to bother the chemist for a bit. My big buggy seems to be back in working order (fingers crossed) so hopefully another problem solved, Havent had time to read all through the instructions properly for my new buggy and if truth be told a bit anxious and hesitant about trying it out, so need to shake myself and then go somewhere sensible and safe to try it out.

I managed at last to get in touch with my son yesterday and so we have a plan to meet up on saturday, so fingers crossed all goes well and nothing stops us . I have my grandsons present to wrap up , various bits and pieces I want to take with me, so today I am putting a big bag for everything to take as I think of it, as I dont want to forget anything. It is quite a long time since we met, so am looking forward to it, and it wont matter if the weather is poor, at least I dont think we shall have snow or ice.

I didnt get everything done I wanted to yesterday, but had a quick meal and then off to the games night. I felt so exhausted yesterday after the long and rather emotional day on monday, it was very good to take my mind off that and jobs waiting to be done. A game of Carcassone went well and I was the winner, but feel it was more luck than judgement as I wasnt at my brightest. I left after that game and they were going to try something new and complicated, so I didnt feel up to the concentration needed for that and felt they should be able to play a game without having to coach the newbie as well. I wont be going to the next weeks game so that was my last game with them this year. They have been a very nice crowd and patient with my efforts, so after christmas is over I plan to make more of an effort. They said they play online too , which I have never tried so maybe that can be a new years resolution to learn a bit more like that before we meet again.

There had been an email asking for volunteers to do some Talking Newspaper work at Upfront, and so I went in and offered my services as I started up a Talking Newspaper many years ago, and was a reader for some years. We used to meet about every 3 weeks for our session, so that the listeners got a variety of voices etc etc, at the library and record it there. I have been told someone will be getting in touch with me but these days they do it on a monday evening by Zoom, so we shall see how that goes, as havent investigated much about Zoom so far. Ah well things evolve and I can see it will make it easier to do, as they started doing it in Covid times.

So today is planned for more sorting out, tidying up, ironing and working out what clothes I need over the christmas period and getting things together. I also have some casserole to make up this morning , which will be tonights meal and also use up various lots of vegetables so that there should be enough to freeze some for another day. After christmas I need to measure up the little shed and see if there is a freezer that will fit in there and then think about getting one in the sales. This miniscule thing under the fridge inside is neither use nor ornament, well it has 2 shelves but is so small I cant get much in it, and have always been one to keep a fair bit at the ready. I was thinking about the cost of buying and running another one, but on the other hand if I can get one in the sales or secondhand from somewhere reputable, it would be worth it. Then I can make up a batch or two and take advantage of good offers, but also these days , bake when I feel up to it, and then have some homemade meals at the ready for days I am struggling to cook. Well we shall see.

Hope your delivery comes early Mick and you get out and about. Bellasnana the cake looks lovely. Hope your day goes better than you expect. I dont think we realized how much effort it took to travel around for our parents, and maybe your daughter cant imagine how much harder it seems to get over the years. I think we age slowly and to our children we look much the same as we have always looked and so they can still have a mental image of us dashing about with no problem at all still. GrandMattie, lovely daffodils, cheering to see. Perhaps you should install a bed in the vestry at church and then have somewhere for a little nap in your busy schedule!! Karmalady hope your parcel arrives today. Aldom glad you are starting to settle in your new home and be able to meet friends . Jaxjacky fingers crossed you get home today. NannyJan good job you rang again, at least you got them back, which with the price of glasses these days and the hassle of sorting them out is the most important thing.

Hoping today goes well for everyone, that you all are able to keep warm and dry and manage to have a little while to yourself at some time

Morning Mick, morning All from a chilly corner of Somerset. Dry at the moment, yellow rain warning in place today and tomorrow.

Yesterday’s forecast sunshine thankfully appeared at lunch time. All went to plan, the motorways impeccably behaved, overall a very enjoyable day. We were amazed to see snowdrops at the NT property.

Neighbours coming for coffee and a catchup this morning. Then we’re off for a pre booked lunch at the little garden centre, a wander (indoors!) afterwards before home to await a tea time grocery delivery.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Good morning from a chilly W Kent. Thursday art group lunch today. It’s at a local college and we are served by the students.
Beautiful cake Bella
Hope you get home very soon Jaxjacky
Best wishes

Good morning all. Heavy rain and high winds are back in Glasgow. I don’t remember ever having so much stormy weather, howling winds, it’s relentless with more still to come. The high winds remind me of the mistral which we had in France.

It’s wheelie day too 💨 I must do a Waitrose visit later this afternoon as it’s busier than usual at this time of year with many visitors wandering around the store. Both GDs cats died earlier this year, brothers with the same health problems so it was no surprise when GD2 FaceTimed from her mum’s car to show me two adorable kittens peeking out of the pet carrier. A visit today is a must to meet our newest family members, names yet to be decided.

Hope today is discharge day Jax🤞 It will be lovely to return to your own bed and the comfort of your own home. I hope your recovery isn’t too arduous with exercises ahead for a while.
Your DDs cake is a work of art Ash. So delicate, I would hate to be the one to do the first cut! Hope you feel better soon.

My best wishes to all for a good day and hopefully a better one for all struggling on through difficult times.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s dark, dry and frosty. No idea what the weather will do today. Yesterday was grey all day but very little rain here. I drove to the garden centre and bought some plant arrangements for friends. I’ll deliver them later today, but have to wait for a parcel to be delivered first.

bellasnana what a beautiful cake, it looks too good to eat! I hope your grandsons are a little better today.

jaxjacky I hope you are able to go home today, that was late to have an X-ray!

I hope that all those with sore throats and coughs feel a little better today, stay warm and drink plenty!

Have the best day possible everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Dec-25 07:05:47

Good morning, from a very dark S E Essex.

I am off to the gym first thing, I really do not feel like it, but hopefully feel better afterwards.

(((Hugs))) for all our poorly friends and those with worries. 🎄🤶

Grandmabatty Wed 17-Dec-25 07:04:14

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 7° and wet. I forgot to put the bin out last night so I'll have to brave the rain very soon. Fortunately it's too dark for anyone to see me. Bellasnana your daughter is very talented. I hope the virus isn't too long lasting. Ashcombe that will be a wonderful meeting! Nannyjan I'm sorry to hear about your mum. It's a hard road.
Yesterday was the last childcare day until January. Yippee! No early mornings. The boys were very excited yesterday for Christmas, particularly dgs2 who didn't listen and belted down the path from nursery. Fortunately a dad saw him and intercepted him from running out onto the road. Dgs1 decided not to listen either and slid down a grassy bank on his knees. The trousers had to go in the wash as soon as we got to my house. We blethered to my neighbours across the road for a bit then in to the house for a snack. One of my other neighbours arrived with a Christmas card and said she couldn't remember my name. She said the same thing earlier this year. I've been in this house for seven years and sent her Christmas cards every year! You would think she would have remembered it by now.
Today I intend to do some ironing in the morning then I'm meeting friends for lunch. I'm looking forward to it. Afterwards I'll see how I feel and might get wrapping. I hope you all have a good day

Sar53 Wed 17-Dec-25 06:48:51

Good morning from the Essex coast.
I arrived home early afternoon yesterday.
I travelled the first part of the journey into London with one of DD1's friends. No wonder they are such good friends, they can both talk for England. It was good to have some company.
DH and I are both unwell, sore throat and dry cough. We have six days to improve before we go away.
Today we are going to Lakeside to find DH some grey trousers, wish us luck.
I'm thinking of all those with worries, struggles and illness, I hope you have a good day.
Best wishes to all xx

Ashcombe Wed 17-Dec-25 06:45:16

Good morning from a calm and dry Torbay.

DH arrived safely last night after a straightforward journey from France with all trains on time. Today we need to be up and out for a train trip to see family in Crewe. My DD1 and family are over from Australia as her FiL has died sadly. Despite the circumstances, it will be good to all be together as I haven’t seen them since 2016! DGS1 was eight then!

I hope you’re allowed home today, Jaxjacky; that was late for your X-ray!

I hope your busy day goes well, grandMattie and then you can enjoy a relaxing evening with your family.

Good wishes to all those who are unwell. Happy hump day! ⭐️🧑🏻‍🎄🎄🎁⭐️

NannyJan53 Wed 17-Dec-25 06:32:47

Good morning from a dry (so far) Black Country.

It was a lovely sunny day yesterday, so walked to the park to meet a friend for coffee there.

She gave me a lift back into town, whereupon I discovered my glasses were not in my bag! Rang the cafe and a disinterested young man, said he couldn't see them. Went home and rang cafe again, a young woman upon me describing where I sat said, yes I can see them on the floor! So back to the park in the afternoon.

Today off to meet DS in his lunch break, where we can swop cards, presents etc. Then I will pop down to DD's school to give cards and presents to the School Secretary for her. DD's birthday is tomorrow.

Mum is still very confused. I made a video call around 2pm, where I asked if a lady had been (Carer). She couldn't remember! Then around 4pm she rang me distressed to say she had written down that someone came at 1pm, put something in her hand and left! So I think from that the Carer arrived. Going to ring them today.

Lovely cake Bellas I am so envious of people who are artist, my DIL is the same, makes lovely cakes.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

harrigran Wed 17-Dec-25 06:23:12

Good morning from a dark and cool NE, feels warmer than it was last night.
Did not do anything yesterday other than read and watch TV as both my wrists were painful.
Sister and BIL are visiting today and will take me shopping.
DD and SIL are travelling to the UK but not sure when I will see them.
Lovely cake Bellasnana.
Thoughts are with poorly people and their carers.

Jaxjacky Wed 17-Dec-25 06:11:16

Morning from a cold S Hants - the woman opposite me has just closed her window. I was taken for x ray at 10:3 last night, box ticked, so I hope to get home later.
Stunning Bellas, a work of art that cake.
Roses I meant to say I read ‘The Women’ earlier this year, a good read, I yomped through it!
Have a pleasant day all, I hope those struggling see some beam of light today.

Good morning Mick and everyone.
Such a beautiful cake Bellasnana.
Don't burn yourself out grandMattie. Look after yourself.
I had a lovely day yesterday. Lunch with friends at the home of a mutual friend. Today it's the NWR (National Women's Register) Christmas lunch. Following the lunch I'll walk to my family's home where I'll have tea with family and extended family. My son in law will bring me home this evening.
Thinking of all who are worried, sad or finding life challenging. Wishing you all the best day possible. flowers

Georgesgran Wed 17-Dec-25 05:50:36

Good morning from Durham. It was very cold here before midnight and we’re in for a cold, windy day with a bit of rain.
I’ve been wide awake for hours, done some internet banking and just watching my bedroom tv now with a cuppa.
I have a fairly quiet day in store, other than a visit to M&S foodhall. DD2 is driving up to Edinburgh today, so I’m going to look after DGS2 tonight, so his Daddy can go to the home match in Town. A late kickoff, so it’ll be after midnight before I get home.

Hoping Jax might be discharged today and that there’s a care package in place for grey(?)’s DH, so he too may get home. I think Gingster’s DH is unwell and an anxious wait for the FGTs too. Things seem so much more worrying at this time of year.

Best wishes to all. X

karmalady Wed 17-Dec-25 05:48:04

Lovely cake Bellasnana and those flowers are very cheerful GM

karmalady Wed 17-Dec-25 05:45:29

Good morning from s somerset, very grim today, dark and a lot of rain is expected, all day

Knitting was good yesterday and I think I will finish the top today. I made veg juice for a few days and my kefir is now undergoing secondary fermentation to make it mellow, it stands in the fridge for that

I did clear a bit more space in the kitchen and wrote out some more sourdough recipes. I am still awaiting my big parcel and hoping it will arrive today. DPD did not arrive and tracking stopped but I think the parcel is safely back at depot. Possibly the van broke down

Today, carry on from yesterday, waiting for my parcel, knitting, a bit of this and that, to include some reading. Candles will be needed today, it is going to be very gloomy out

I am thankful to be able to stay in, to be occupied and away from the madding crowds

Have a good day

grandMattie Wed 17-Dec-25 05:38:27

I’m sorry you’re feeling unwell, bellas.
The cake is gorgeous.

grandMattie Wed 17-Dec-25 05:36:50

Good morning from Bristol. Although dry, the day promises to be absolutely horrible, with driving rain all afternoon, just as I need to be in and out, catching buses etc. grr 😡
I saw the narcissi outside my flat yesterday morning!
I had a quiet day yesterday, mostly baking - mince pies for my FAB cafe, and the bits for my mini gingerbread houses, to be assembled tomorrow and iced, probably on Saturday.
I delivered cards round the estate, together with notes reminding the residents of the coffee morning dates.
Today is even busier than my usual Wednesdays. Prayers, FAB cafe. I have less than an hour turnaround before going back to church to help out with the Ladies’ Guild Christmas tea. The committee members are all in their 80s, whilst I’m in my late 70s. The usual stuff; people are glad to just sit back and let others do things for them. No one wants to help the organisation. That’s why the Towmswomen’s Guild has shut up shop. Very sad.
I just have time to get home, collect stuff before going to dine at DD’s. I hope it’s not too wet or windy at the bus stop, and 10 minute walk afterwards. 🤞
I hope everyone has a good day, especially the fgts and md.

Bellasnana Wed 17-Dec-25 05:35:19

Good morning from Malta where it’s dry with a high of 22°C forecast.

It was a tiring day yesterday, DGS2 was feeling miserable, poor little boy. DD3 took them to their paediatrician in the afternoon and he said not to send them to school today so guess who is on duty again!

I’m starting with their bug, sore throat and cough, so don’t feel too good myself but SiL is bringing them over to me at 8am so at least I don’t have to drag out.

Had a long chat with DD2 in Tennessee last night. Bless her, she’s so keen for me to go over but the thought of that journey makes me wonder if I’ll ever manage it again.

She had been delivering another of her beautiful cakes to a photographer who wants to work with her as she organises parties and wants DD2 to provide the cakes. I love this one. What do you think?

Must get up and get going. It’s going to be a long day.

Hoping the day is kind to you all.☀️

RosesandLilac Wed 17-Dec-25 05:30:43

Good morning from frosty south Glos, I hope that it isn’t icy underfoot this morning.
I had a lovely quiet day yesterday, finished the tidying of the living room and it’s looking nice, all polished and neat.
Today I will put up the twiggy Christmas tree, I wasn’t going to bother but will make the effort because DS and family are coming on Saturday.
Hopefully I will do a bit of arty stuff too and more crocheting - the blanket is growing very slowly.
Best wishes to you all 🌹
