I'm glad you are home safely Madeleine. Enjoy your peaceful Saturday evening

Marydoll,
I forgot to say hope that Babydoll will love her spider outfit. Any chance you could try it out first? I rather like the image of your sitting high up in your church complete with outfit, looking down at the said cleric, who doesnt seem to have an great deal of christian spirit in him!!

Have just arrived home about 5pm , rather weary but mission accomplished, without any breakages or hassle and even got parked quite well. Weather ranged from starting off with thick trousers , polar long johns and thick sweater to having to pull in at a discreet layby and removing a layer, and donning sun glasses, then back to mist and sheep determined to end up as my christmas dinner as they lay on the road for a bit of warmth!! Thank you all for your messages and concern, and now will be very glad to get the kettle on and sprawl out with coffee to hand and radio 3 and may see if there is a biscuit to go with it. I am pleased to be home. plan to do nothing but listen to radio 3, hurrah a lovely piece of Bach to cheer me up, (as it always does) just timed that right, Hoping that everyones plans worked out well today and will be back tomorrow to read more of your doings.

Maw, four one dozen tins and a couple of half dozens, most decades old and dating from my time as house master’s wife when I used to have the youngest boys baking if they fancied it - which of course they did as they ate much of what was produced. We had made the mincemeat too - and I still do as it is virtually effortless free apart from grating 2 lbs of Bramleys. All much less fun done on my own, of course, but brings back memories of so many Christmases past - and the house smells delicious!

Hope you are feeling better soon GG13.
Timing eh? I think you mentioned it’s your husband’s birthday today. x

GrannySomerset

Just waiting to take the last of the five dozen mince pies out of the oven - some for a friend’s birthday party on Monday, the rest for domestic consumption. A similar number of tiny sausage rolls to do this afternoon - the pastry is currently resting and so am I! These are also for the 80th birthday do but will freeze some to send to London for DGS.

FIVE DOZEN mince pies! tchshock - how many bun tins have you got?
I am truly humbled

kalu trying to renew my driving licence online resulted in my having to change a password which messed up my access to emails! I’d done it before with no problem. I’ll apply by post!

Grandmabatty Sat 20-Dec-25 12:37:37

grannygravy 💐 take care x

Yesterday both DDs and I were driving slowly past some shops when we caught the most realistic looking Santa coming from one. Despite a total of more than 150 years, we waved at him like lunatics, as he waved back. It made our day!

Blossoming Sat 20-Dec-25 11:41:20

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

Today MrB and I have been for our usual walk around the dock, then went in search of Santa trains 🚂. The drivers give me a toot and a wave, which makes me feel 7 years old again and very happy grin

I’m thinking of our poorly grans and those with troubles, as always.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing 🦩🦩🦩

GrannyGravy13 Sat 20-Dec-25 10:58:46

A late good morning 🙋‍♀️

I have woken up feeling rather unwell, sore and tight chest, and wheezing like an old cart horse. Contemplating breaking open my rescue medication pack will see how the day goes 🎄🤶😷

RosieandherMaw Sat 20-Dec-25 10:33:48

Good morning from misty N Bucks - hopefully the sun will burn this off soon.
Expecting my sisters in law for lunch/the weekend (I have suggested they stay overnight as it’s a long drive back to Tonbridge especially in the dark. Well I wouldn’t do it!) Spare rooms are ready and beds made up so I’m hopeful, it makes for a much more relaxed day.
Thank you Marydoll and Babydoll for my first laugh of the morning
Babydoll told me on Thursday that Santa was bringing her a Spidernan t- shirt and a suit. However, I don't think Santa knows this 😂
My mental picture of you scaling a skyscraper glued to its sides would make a great Christmas card!
Glad you are sounding much more like yourself.
Kind thoughts to all who are poorly or in distress and a pleasant day to all.

Kalu Sat 20-Dec-25 10:12:37

Good morning all. Dry and mild in Glasgow, we are even promised sunshine. ☀️

I finally gave up attempting to renew my driving licence online yesterday. Every bit as bad as my experience with HMRC online. I have used their online service before but they have changed the format. Filled in all required information only to be told there was a technical fault! Technology is great….when it works.
Not sure of what I may do today but I will go out at some point although I have no reason to, being indoors on my own too often isn’t a good idea.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

WhiteSwan63 Sat 20-Dec-25 10:00:36

Good morning everyone from a foggy east coast.
We are sitting here in our pyjamas drinking cuppa after cuppa debating whether to go to do our Xmas food shop. Hubby thinks we should but he has an aversion to long queues.
Just watched the celeb masterchef final so the longer we sit here the less we fancy going.

We had a lovely time at our best friends little Xmas get together yesterday. They pushed the boat out and it was cosy and full of love gathering round our other best friend who is battling cancer.

Well DH has made the executive decision of we are going shopping so I had better get dressed.

Wishing everyone a lovely Saturday with moments of joy. 🎄

baubles Sat 20-Dec-25 09:55:18

Good morning from damp South Lanarkshire.

We managed to do the food shopping yesterday then enjoyed coffee and a mince pie before heading back home.

The postie yesterday delivered a package of birthday cards from my DS including handmade ones from the children. It was posted with 24hour tracking on December 11th for my birthday on the 14th. They were so upset that it hadn’t arrived on time and I’d begun to think the cards had been lost forever. Dreadful service from Royal Mail.

My plan today is to deliver cards to the neighbours then finish my gift wrapping whilst watching a Christmas film. I’ve yet to decide which, it will depend on my mood later.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

grandMattie Sat 20-Dec-25 09:52:31

Happy birthday for tomorrow, randl. 🍰🎂💐
I shall have forgotten by then.. 🤨

grandMattie Sat 20-Dec-25 09:50:51

I was wrong! The postage to Tanzania, without bells and whistles, cost 5 times more than the calendar 😳

merlotgran Sat 20-Dec-25 09:42:30

Good morning all from a sunny south coast.
I have flu so am isolating. Thank goodness for a Tesco delivery yesterday. If this is what it feels like when you’ve had the jab it must be truly awful if you haven’t. 😩
All weekend plans are off.
Hope everyone has a good day. Take care.

RosesandLilac Sat 20-Dec-25 09:35:00

Good morning, a very chilly and foggy start to Saturday here in south Glos, the dogs walk was in thick murky conditions, very atmospheric, and my fingers were frozen despite wearing gloves.
DS and family are undecided as whether to come because DS has a virus…..so it may turn out to be a very quiet weekend instead of celebrating my birthday tomorrow 🤷🏼‍♀️ It can’t be helped, obviously.
Besides some routine housework there’s nothing planned except trying to work out what to do with the big food shop that’s coming in 4 hours if the family doesn’t get here! At least I won’t need to shop again for at least two weeks!
Have a lovely weekend 🌹

Gingster Sat 20-Dec-25 08:53:17

Good morning and it’s a chilly one.

Yesterday we had ds2 here for lunch and the afternoon which was nice and chatty. Always good to have them on their own for a while, and get the chance of a good catch-up.

Dd is poorly so I’ll be going round with shopping and sympathy. I’ll bring DGD back with me and we’ll go to the local Carol concert at 4 . She might want to have a sleepover but usually likes to get home to her own bed.

Spag Bol for tea , requested by Dh.

Take care all
Safe journey all travellers
Get well soon for those under the weather.
🎄

Gagagran Sat 20-Dec-25 08:24:40

Good Morning everyone from a coolish south coast but the forecast is for some sunny spells. Lovely winter sunshine is such a boost after all the rain.

The laundry is on as we clear the decks ready for the visit of DS and family tomorrow. I have booked lunch at a local pub with an excellent chef/owner, for us all. There is a good vegetarian choice for DGD2 which is always a consideration.

We gave up on presents a few years ago apart from giving cash to all our DGC for birthdays and Christmas and any notable successes they have. We all agreed that we have too much "stuff" and DH and I both prefer presence to presents. DGC prefer to have some funds to use as they wish!

Christmas Eve was traditional for mince pie making for us too, when the children were young. DH used to take them out for a long walk on a "holly with berries" hunt every year but mainly to tire them out so they could get to sleep despite being over excited about the visit of Father Christmas. I still like a bit of fresh greenery in the house for Christmas. as my Mum always did.

Safe travels to all on the move and good baking to the mince pie producers. Mine are coming in the grocery delivery on Tuesday!

Thinking of those struggling and especially with health problems to endure or care for in loved ones.

Grammaretto Sat 20-Dec-25 08:23:52

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Dark but dry so far.

No open house café today because the Town Hall closes for 2 weeks. So I'm off the hook for baking and bringing flowers.

I'm hoping to meet DD and her DDs at the theatre in Edinburgh for the pantomime matinée, although she is having difficulties with the train bookings. After that I've booked an early meal at an Italian restaurant for us all before their train home.

I shall buy some last minute gifts first if there's anything left for the older DGC.

My DF is visiting tomorrow and will help me with my real tree.

Have a really good weekend everyone. Thoughts with those in pain or struggling.

brook2704 Sat 20-Dec-25 08:22:34

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it still dark and looks wet
Love the elves Susan!
I finished wrapping yesterday, cleared the dining room table and it’s ready to be set up for Christmas today. I’m beginning to feel a bit better thank goodness so will start on the food shopping later. I’ll need to make a list as my brain is still on a go slow. Our cupboards are looking quite bare as I’ve not been out this last week and DH just picked up the essentials.
I can relate to that cabin fever feeling Ekwa enjoy your trip out today
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Morning from a dry S Hants, I am showered and hair washed at last, aided by MrJ, yesterday we had a power cut from about 1 - 9pm, talk about enough already!
Friend calling in this afternoon, MrJ has a bowls match and certainly deserves some time off!
What a journey Ashcombe, but you got there.
Safe travels all today and may any bugs depart swiftly.
