Don't want colonoscopy 😨

I've had the procedure twice. First time round I was petrified and wasn't offered sedation. I was fine, just a bit uncomfortable, but certainly not painful. On the second occasion I was offered sedation and accepted it. Again, no problems. The staff were friendly and efficient. In fact we had an interesting chat about my insides whilst watching the camera images on the screen.

Taking the nuclear strength laxative was the worst bit for me.
Please don't cancel your appointment. It might save your life.

As others have said the preparation is the worst part of a colonoscopy.It could save your life.Please don’t cancel.

Do not cancel the colonoscopy. Your symptoms are significant and need proper investigation.

The prep is the worst thing...and you do that at home not hospital

If you end up being diagnosed with bowel cancer later down the line in an advanced stage ....you will find out exactly how much you hate hospitals.

As someone else has said, anaemia is a symptom which needs investigating. Don't cancel your colonoscopy and follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine. The anticipation is much worse than the actual procedure.

Please don’t cancel the appointment. A colonoscopy is not to be feared, it could save your life. If you’re very worried I suggest to call the department in advance and explain. I’ve always been treated with kindness, respect and consideration, sedation can be offered or gas and air for discomfort. Why risk not going?

Nothing to fear from the procedure in my experience of 3 colonoscopies. The only thing I didn’t like much was drinking all the liquid beforehand.

To say it bluntly - You could save yourself from an early death.

I agree it would be silly to cancel the appointment just because you don't like hospitals. My DH had the same procedure because of anemia even though his samples were blood free. Although slightly undignified the procedure was easy he did not have sedation it was offered though,just gas and air.

Cariadagain that is really bad advice bleeding from the rectum is a very serious thing it’s not like a boil or a cut that you can use natural products on

I have always been afraid of anything required that involved my bottom but had to go for a colonoscopy, if I hadn't I wouldn't have had the last 24 years of my life. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Bowel Cancer, totally treatable. Please be brave and go.

I am sorry about your mum dilemma.Mine always told me don't miss mammogram as it killed her mum.going to daughter and family for Xmas 🎄 that'll be another ear bashing!

Nobody wants to have medical procedures Whingey, but they are necessary to obtain a diagnosis. Of course you don’t have to have it, but you must be prepared for any long term consequences if you don’t.
The medics are used to people being nervous etc, and will take good care of you, with sedation if necessary.
It really isn’t as bad as you think.

Rather silly to cancel because you don’t like hospital. Who does? Hopefully your bleeding will be something harmless but if it isn’t and you ignore it you’ll certainly be seeing much more hospital than you would like.

Do not cancel - your symptoms could mean bowel cancer, which killed my mother after she ignored her symptoms.
Colonoscopies are offered with sedation - you won’t know anything about it.
