It’s down …..the trees off for another year A good hoover up and the plants all gone back where they should be
It’s very empowering putting all back in the right places (well it is for me ) 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Had to take all my decorations and tree down today. I’ve chopped the tree up for the garden waste collection tomorrow and all the rest packed away ready to go back in the loft. I cleaned right through the house and everything is back in its rightful place.
I’ve cleared the fridge of leftovers and anything out of date too.
Now I can happily pack my suitcases as we’re off on Friday for a five week Caribbean cruise…….yay happy new year everyone 🍾🥂

No! Certainly not, family have arrived in dribs and drabs, final departures tomorrow. I like all the lights and stuff I'm part woman, part moth, so lights are essential to my existence!

I’m on my own and along with all the cards and gifts to send away I’m still part working self employed… so made a feeble attempt at Christmas decs = cars and a couple of strings of lights, But love the phrase part moth… that’s me too … mine will stay up till they HAVE to come down! Then everything looks so dull and dreary! The weather is cold and dull ( tho bright over Christmas for a huge change) and the lights cheer everything up. Each to our own, but a ‘clinically’ clean house purged of light and cheer is not for me!

My daughter has exactly the same mind set when it comes to taking the tree down..lol..Although I must say the big living room looks really sad and bare when everything gets put away, it does take a while to get used to it…

It’s the 6 February, the Queen left them up until the anniversary of her father’s death.

Catgrann Mon 29-Dec-25 14:56:03

I didn't bother with Christmas this year. I bought presents ,and that's it. No special food,no decorations. I just put the cards up as people had bothered to send them.
I can't see the point if alone. Cards are down now.

Greciangirl Mon 29-Dec-25 14:48:48

Personally, I just don’t bother putting any decorations up now as we don’t have visitors anymore, so it doesn’t seem worth the bother.
I still like Christmas cards dotted around though.

crazygranmda Mon 29-Dec-25 14:46:56

BlueBelle Not just you, as I did the same yesterday. It would have stayed up longer if the family were going to be around, but they're not.

I love the tree and lights for Xmas, but I also love the cleared decks when it's all back in the attic. I guess we're in the minority and I'm quite happy to be there smile

Epiphany is the 6th Jan - twelfth night - which is why my tree and nativity scene are still there.

Orthodox Christians celebrate HIS birth on Jan 6th

MelAnt2 Mon 29-Dec-25 14:35:39

Oh no, BlueBelle! You're just like my daughter's father-in-law after she sprinkled fake snow near the chimney with Santa's footprints. After checking that all the grandchildren had seen the footprints, he immediately hoovered it all up🙄.
I take down all the decorations on the 6th night but keep my Scandinavian Christmas lights in three windows untill 31 January to brighten up our dark winter.

Sooze58 Mon 29-Dec-25 14:32:48

Mine too. It didn’t go up particularly early - we go just seem to have a duff one. I’m stringing it out as long as possible but I doubt we’ll make it to New Year. I’d love to do it to 12th night but as I work, realistically it’s usually the day before I go back.

Norah Mon 29-Dec-25 14:32:36

We remove all, apart from outside lights, after Epiphany.

Mollygo Mon 29-Dec-25 14:29:59

We only put cards up and a twinkly garland with a mini tree above the fireplace.
DH doesn't want reminders of Christmas 2025 so I agreed to clear away yesterday.

4allweknow Mon 29-Dec-25 14:26:54

Taken me 3 Christmases since DH died to put up decorations, mainly all he made. A little decoration of stair handrail with lights and tinsel but just not a tree. Will be up until 05 Jan I am unavailable until then to put all away. I only decorate a week before Christmas and they are definitely away by 12th night.

Bukkie Mon 29-Dec-25 14:05:39

2nd January here too.

Polwal Mon 29-Dec-25 14:04:16

We are the same...it goes up on the 1st of Dec and down well before the New Year. Everyone is different though.

Grandmabatty Mon 29-Dec-25 13:57:44

Everything down and put away. I've thrown out a couple of sad decorations that were looking threadbare too.

Babamaman Mon 29-Dec-25 13:51:43

Noo nothing done until epiphany 5:6 January when the 3 wise men arrived in the manger

Nanny123 Mon 29-Dec-25 13:49:45

Ours are all down and all back to normal - feels good

Patsytaylor Mon 29-Dec-25 13:49:32

I never take mine down. I never put one up!
Only me and DH so no point

BlueSapphire Mon 29-Dec-25 12:34:52

Mine went up middle of December and will probably reluctantly come down a week today. I put my tree lights on when I get up and will put my other lights on mid afternoon, and candles are lit on the hearth every evening. I just love it all!
The house seems so bare afterwards....

ginny Mon 29-Dec-25 12:33:47

Ours will come down next Monday. We didn’t put them up until 16th December so not tired of them yet.

crazyH Mon 29-Dec-25 11:57:22

I will take mine down by the 2nd or 3rd Jan - such a shame to take it down so soon !

flappergirl Mon 29-Dec-25 11:53:40

I love the suspension of reality over Christmas. Ordinary sitting rooms become twinkling grottos, there are different programmes on TV and the fridge is stocked with things you wouldn't normally buy. And you don't feel guilty about eating them at any time of day! I know lots of people like to get the trimmings down as soon as possible and have a "good old clean", but personally I can easily resist that temptation. I'll enjoy this fantastical little world until 6th January and the fact that I can do bugger all with impunity until then.

M0nica Mon 29-Dec-25 09:17:42

Mine decorations usually goes up a week- 10 days before Christmas and come down on January 2nd.

This year, because of our house move they went up on Christmas Eve afternoon, but they will still come down on 2 Jnauary.

notgran Mon 29-Dec-25 07:55:11

Ours will stay up until 6th Jan simply because we are going away for 3 day after New Year's Day. On our return all except the Christmas village and model train will be taken down. I'll probably spend most of January sorting out what needs keeping for next year, packing it into boxes in the shed and throwing away those decorations past their best. The train and village stays up longer as it makes me happy to see it working. We put twinkly lights on an archway and are going to keep those up for the same reason. Now where are all my Easter decorations? (kidding not kidding smile)
