It’s down …..the trees off for another year A good hoover up and the plants all gone back where they should be
It’s very empowering putting all back in the right places (well it is for me ) 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Grannybags Sun 28-Dec-25 14:39:38

Not just you Bluebell. I took ours down yesterday. I love it!

eazybee Sun 28-Dec-25 13:44:08

There are no rules, but there are traditions.
The twelve days of Christmas. Epiphany.
Sad to pack it all up so soon.

Bridie22 Sun 28-Dec-25 13:35:34

Mines coming down later today, be glad for normality!!

Grandmabatty Sun 28-Dec-25 13:33:53

Well done Bluebell! I can't decide whether to take mine down tomorrow or wait til 2nd. The tree and decorations have been up since the beginning of December and I'm heartily fed up of looking at them.

yogitree Sun 28-Dec-25 13:30:42

I like that too Bluebell. This year, for some reason my OH doesn't feel the same, so they're still up for the time being. We do have 2 young grandchildren who might come to visit, so it's worth leaving it up for their sake.

Harris27 Sun 28-Dec-25 13:22:52

I’ll leave mine up till after New Year’s Day. Then I’ll be fed up of them and a little sad to take them down as I do love Christmas. This one being especially emotive for me as I retired. I do hope I settle into retirement as I did want to retire. New year new days to fill and new adventures. Bring it on.

BlueBelle Sun 28-Dec-25 13:19:41

I should add if I had children in my house or visitors of course it would stay up longer but I m here on my own and so surely it’s for me to decide when is the right time to take it down , There are no rules

BlueBelle Sun 28-Dec-25 13:17:41

Not half hearted at all I made a big effort to follow the crowd and be festive but it’s over now. It’s back to normal for me and who makes up rules that I need to keep my tree up for a particular length of time Kandindsky you do it your way and I ll do it mine and I ll judge what is worth doing or not

Calendargirl Sun 28-Dec-25 12:45:42

Kandinsky

Crikey - what was the point of putting a tree up if you’re taking it down so soon?
I’d have more of a ‘kudos to you’ attitude if you didn’t bother at all.
All this half hearted stuff is ridiculous.
Either embrace the festive season or don’t.

As I said, mine have been up four weeks.

Plenty of time.

As for leaving them up until 12th night, perhaps that was fine when Christmas was Christmas, not like now when the shops are gearing up for the festive season after the August bank holiday.

Not half hearted, just realistic for the times we now live in.

Astitchintime Sun 28-Dec-25 12:41:26

We were away for Christmas so the tree remained in the loft. Just got the cards to dispose of and if they don’t stop falling over on the windowsill they’ll be in the recycling long before 12th Night!

I leave some small string lights in the porch until Candlemass. I might do as GG does and keep a bit of indoor lighting going as well this year.

Casdon Sun 28-Dec-25 12:27:55

It’s Christmas week, nobody here is at work, so we’re lazing about enjoying the brief get off the bus and relax week, all the decorations are still up. I will take them down on the first Monday in January, when it’s back to normal life time.

BlueBelle Sun 28-Dec-25 12:24:14

Calendargirl 👋

GrannyGravy13 Sun 28-Dec-25 12:16:03

When the Christmas decorations are down and packed away, then its candles in the kitchen and sitting room along with LED candles in the hallway, landing and dining room.

Anything to brighten the gloom of mid-winter.

teabagwoman Sun 28-Dec-25 12:15:11

Mine will stay up until 5th January but only because my dgd will be here and taking them down is something we can do together.

Calendargirl Sun 28-Dec-25 12:13:30

No, it’s not just you BlueBelle.

Our two trees came down this morning. We have one in the sitting room, and one in the conservatory.

We usually put them up the first Sunday in December, but this year it was 30th November. I said to DH ‘they’ll be coming down four weeks today’.

I’m not a Christmassy person, don’t like putting them up or taking them down, but like to see them lit up on a dark evening.

But like you, Christmas is over and done with now, certainly always take things down before New Year.

A good hoover round, furniture back where it should be….

😇

Gingster Sun 28-Dec-25 12:11:35

Mine will come down when DS comes to do it and put everything back in the loft. His decs go up early and come down after new year. He’ll probably take ours down the next day.
I do like everything to be back to normal although I love the Christmas decs too.

nanna8 Sun 28-Dec-25 12:05:34

Looked at our back windows today. Gruesome. Must give them a wash ….

BlueBelle Sun 28-Dec-25 12:03:35

Just me then, I m not a very Christmassy person the older I get but go along with it all as I m not a ‘bah humbug’ but it’s lovely for me to get it all put away, and a big old clean / tidy up
It looks very fresh, clean, clear and all ready to welcome Spring…. yay roll on brighter nights and a bit of warmth and light

TerriBull Sun 28-Dec-25 12:00:33

No! Certainly not, family have arrived in dribs and drabs, final departures tomorrow. I like all the lights and stuff I'm part woman, part moth, so lights are essential to my existence!

Ooh far too early.

If I had my way I would adopt our late Queens routine and leave them up until 6th February.

Isn’t it 2nd February- Candlemas? I’m sure I read somewhere that snowdrops are also known as Candlemas Bells.

12th night for me. The tree still looks lovely and is not shedding the needles.

Our tree[not real] is getting so old, that even DH declared, @it is shedding so many needles just like a real one, so it needs to go.@
My speech marks appear not to be working.

Oh BlueBelle ours will be up 'till 12th night!
...but it only goes up immediately before Christmas day!

We are about the same.

We string[excuse the pun] it out as long as we can.
Helps to get part way through January.

I try and stay in a Christmas bubble until then.
Nice excuse to not do much.

nanna8 Sun 28-Dec-25 11:50:24

I’ll leave them up for New Year’s Eve because some friends are coming round and then we are going down to the beach for a week so they will come down after that. It all went very quickly this year, too fast.
