I have a new tablet and will message tomorrow.

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 15:01:51

Bellanonna, Will do. Many thanks to each and every one of you dear Kitcheners.

I am locking the door. I will see you ALL in Soop's Kitchen. Bless your hearts for being such super special peoples (as my grandson, when young) was known to say.

Bellanonna Sun 04-Jan-26 14:46:22

As a non-posting, but long-time Kitchener, I’d say yes, please, soop, go back to your lovely Kitchen and everyone will be waiting to give you a warm welcome x

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 14:31:09

Having just this moment discovered that the original Soop's Kitchen still exists, I wonder whether I should close this thread and return to the original. It seems to make sense. What say you?

Hello Soop it’s lovely to have you back with us. Your son and his partner sound so kind and caring, I hope they get home without any delays. We’ve lots of snow here in Inverness, the side roads are slippery but the main roads ok
I hope you’re doing ok kitty, take care

soop Sat 03-Jan-26 14:56:26

kittylester, I have sent a private message. Away now to read my book but will return a little later to read your response.

I have given my tablet to Mr Soop I have no need for anything that unduly tests my grey matter. I understand that many of my Gransnet friends find using the tablet a blessing. For me, it is the opposite and returning to the computer is the best way forward.

I am reading a Richard Osman book. It is fun and light- hearted.

I shall return later this afternoon.

My son and his wonderful partner have arrived at Scotch Corner which is approximately half way home. they have left the snowy roads behind them, thank goodness. The islands remain snow-capped, all very picturesque, but driving on icy roads is a different matter.

Yesterday we were able to video call our son's partner's parents. Her father is Swedish and her mother is Indian. They are delightful. Son and partner spent Christmas in Sweden with them before visiting us. Her parents are now en route to their second home in India.

Nannytopsy, how lovely for you to see such handsome feathered friends. We often see a woodpecker, a tree creeper and every tit under the sun in our back garden. Also green finch, chaffinch and dozens of cheeky sparrows visiting the feeders,

TillyTrotter The asparagus scented piddle urine has deserted me. tchwink

soop Sat 03-Jan-26 14:17:40

Oh dear! So sorry, kitty, it has been such a long time since I last pm'd. I have forgotten how to do so. Please pm me if you wish to share your problem.

soop Sat 03-Jan-26 14:14:27

Hello dear kittylester, I shall private message you.

Nannytopsy Fri 02-Jan-26 18:17:37

Fenugreek in curries is another culprit! Of course you must come back to your kitchen soop!. That’s where you belong, comfortably settled by the Aga.
We don’t have your seascapes but cold, clear and sunny days over Suffolk countryside. Between here and the supermarket I saw 2 kestrels, a buzzard and 3 red kites. It all makes the move worth it!

kittylester Fri 02-Jan-26 15:14:47

Hi soop, I needed a bit of cheering up today and you've certainly achieved that.

So glad you are back with us!

TillyTrotter Fri 02-Jan-26 14:06:11

Hi soop .
Your sense of humour is still wicked and intact 😁 It’s beetroot with me IYKWIM.
How lovely that the sea and sky are giving you such a hypnotic show from your window. Nature at its most flamboyant.
Stay inside with your dear man, keep snug and enjoy all visits.
What kindness from your family?
‘Bye for now 👋 🌊 ☀️

soop Fri 02-Jan-26 13:40:34

Boy, oh Boy! I am at the computer and have been "locked out" for almost half an hour. Don't ask me the whys and wherefores 'cos I am bamboozled.

Once again, the sea is a sight to behold...mountainous, white-capped waves, scudding clouds across the islands of the inner Hebrides and sunshine illuminating the rocks on the sandy beach.

My son will be here with us very soon. He and his lovely fiancee will be leaving Kintyre on tomorrow's ferry. Their visit has lifted our spirits sky-high. They have shopped, cooked all our meals and washed the dishes. In between, my son has been patience personified regarding giving me umpteen lessons (none of which has been successful) on how to operate the pristine tablet.

Thank you Stansgran, Allira and countless Kitcheners for your friendly guidelines with the wayward tablet. Heartfelt THANK YOUS to those Kitcheners who have welcomed me back to the fold since my long absence after my bone cancer diagnosis. Your gentle, kind natured encouragement has set me on the road to visiting our kitchen forum using the computer. Should I not become familiar with using the tablet, then I can reassure you that my absence will not continue.

In fact, once this forum is complete, we will open a new Soop's Kitchen, unless you suggest a different meeting place. Your preferences matter.

On a completely ridiculous matter...I am about to enjoy a wee that smells of asparagus. No kidding. We enjoyed asparagus with our supper and was told that 40% of people can smell the vegetable in their urine. I happen to be in the 40%. Just sayin'! Daft as a brush...me.

Take good care of yourselves and I look forward to joining you again tomorrow. tchsmile

4x Granny - The 'Search' facility can be a bit dodgy at times, but the notification for 'Private Messages' (PMs) is pretty robust.

If you have any questions or problems, use the 'Site Stuff' forum to post. There's always plenty of willing help there!

Allira

Some tips for using a tablet - put it on a cushion, or you can buy special cushions/beanies to prop them on.

Use a stylus, it might not help with your spelling as it often hits the wrong keys 😀 but it does save the fingers and thumbs.

I use speak to type feature to stop fat finger mistakes.

Hello Soop! I have just found you again, and am so happy that you are back 😍

4xGranny Thu 01-Jan-26 22:28:01

CrazyH and Ixion thank you very much for your replies. That is very helpful.

Allira Thu 01-Jan-26 22:22:49

Mine does have a tendency to tell me what it feels I should say
Definitely!

I hope Soop you get the hang of your tablet. I find it much easier than the computer moreso having to sit up in front of it . You can rest the tablet on your tummy in bed especially if you have a cover which props it up. Mine does have a tendency to tell me what it feels I should say but we will have a good working relationship one day. Bless you for your welcome return.

ixion Thu 01-Jan-26 19:22:29

4xGranny, I use the Search facility.

crazyH Thu 01-Jan-26 19:02:14

4xgranny just in case ixion hadn’t seen your question - You get a little bell 🔔 sign on your Inbox

4xGranny Thu 01-Jan-26 18:56:50

Ixion also how would I know if someone replied to me? Do we get notifications like on Facebook?

4xGranny Thu 01-Jan-26 18:48:17

Ixion how do you know how long someone has been posting?
I look at Gransnet every day but there are some things I don’t understand.

The painting which Soop did of my cat Milo, is in pride of place in the Spare Room.
