The usual plan with a bus trip to Bicester ,shop and chat to those i know .
Mind you its been very quiet shopping wise with fewer people on buses and in shops .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good afternoon all from cloudy Lancashire. I’m late today as MrB and I have been to Lytham. It’s very cold but no sea breeze, so we walked a bit further than usual. We called into the farm butcher and got a couple of their delicious pork pies for lunch.

Sending good vibes to all who are under the weather or facing problems. 🦩🦩🦩

Forgot to add, other son and grandson coming tomorrow instead of today - so I’m conserving energy 🤣

Good afternoon from a crisp but dry west of Ireland! I’m having a pj day, and ploughing through the washing! Last load is in, literally a queue for the tumble dryer, then I intend a nice long hot soak in the bath followed by a takeaway of some sort! There are four men (hubby and sons) in this house, they know they have to fend for themselves when they see me having a pj day 🤣❤️

Beautiful photos Stilllearning.
I shall be going to the Isle of Lewis next week, ferries and snow allowing, I hope it might be as beautiful as that.

Have just waved off DD, DSiL and DGD1 after a very welcome three night stay with DD taking over the kitchen and producing delicious meals from the provisions I had laid in. House is a tip but will gradually deal with beds and bedding over the next couple of days. Have asked a friend in this afternoon so only need to check the state of downstairs as only I can see the chaos upstairs and I can shuts the doors on it, though I might as well wash the towels today. When did having people to stay become such hard work?

Meanwhile am glad to read that Marydoll has been well treated by her surgery and hope all the sufferers are improving.

Stilllearning Tue 30-Dec-25 09:53:38

Jaxjackie, I meant to say I was very sorry to read about your setback, what rotten luck.

Good morning from a lovely bright damp morning on the East Coast.
I have just come home from my hairdresser after having my hair curled. It’s a big Shirley Temple but will drop over the next couple of days leaving light waves.

We leave for Luton airport about lunch we aren’t flying until tomorrow morning but would rather be at the airport hotel relaxing as you never know what traffic holdups there may be.
Neither Dh or I are feeling great with colds so I have new face masks to wear on the flight if necessary. I suppose with so many family and friends gatherings and little DGC kissing us it was bound to happen.

Enjoy your day if you can. Hope there are many moments of joy in your day. 💐

Try again!

Good morning from my bit of South Lanarkshire where apparently it’s minus 2 degrees. I’ve had a really lovely Christmas, moving between Connel and then DD4’s where the new puppy dominated events. Their last dog died a year ago and I am so happy that they have taken the plunge again, DD in particular really needed it.

Connel was glorious, very heavy frost everywhere and clear blue skies. Our Boxing Day walk was really special, I’ll try to attach a picture showing the island of Lismore and the tip of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Middle two DGC are great company, it was good to have time to listen to them as they head towards the next stage, DGS will be starting at Glasgow uni after the summer and his sister will really miss him.

That is disappointing about your husband’s operation being cancelled baubles, I hope a new date is fixed soon.

I got rather worrying news about my eyesight the day before my departure for DD’s but was able to suspend thinking about it till post holiday time, concern beginning to creep back now I must admit. I’ll be seen within the nest week or so.

Off tomorrow morning to DD5’ s to spend New Year with them, I’m so looking forward to being with youngest two DGC again.

It’s been good to catch up with all the news now and send special good wishes to everyone who needs them.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire,

We had a good time in Oxford yesterday. Granddaughter loved the panto and lunch at a newish huge Italian was delicious.

Today we are popping into our nearby town for a weekly shop. I must also order and collect de-flea from the Vet.

Son and his partner are staying one more night in Scotland so they’ll be calling in tomorrow to pick up our granddaughter.

Have a good day. Good news MaryD that you saw such a helpful GP. I have one like that too!

Have a good day.

Good morning all and it’s colder again.
DS1 has already been and gone after filling my car up with petrol.
I tried yesterday but the queues were too long. I shopped in Sainsburys, wondering why I had bothered as we could have managed. Tried twice to park near the pet shop for little dogs food and eventually gave up.
I always avoid busy times on the roads and in shops, why I didnt yesterday , I have no idea.

Dh was poorly yesterday with upset stomache. Too much rich food I suppose. He’s on starvation diet for a day or so.

GG and Marydoll I’m glad you got some satisfaction from your kindly GP’s.

Take care all

A late good morning from Shropshire.

We had a pleasant couple of hours in town and a good lunch at a lovely pub we have never visited before despite living here for nearly twenty years. It was very quiet in town which is how we like it.

A quiet day at home today. We will write everything on the new calendar. We already seem to have a lot of appointments and childcare booked and a couple of theatre visits and short breaks.I remember years ago writing all our work days for the year on as well and then doing the same in our diaries. It would take hours.

Hoping all unwell are starting on the road to recovery and that Jax had reassuring news from the orthopaedic clinic.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Morning from a cold S Hants, lovely post Ashcombe smashing pictures corner thank you.
Sounds like a good day out brook with your son.
Humdrum here, I’ll be glad when my knee brace comes off, MrJ has to remove it/put it on after ablutions, im not allowed to bend.
My daughter came in last night for a couple of hours, he escaped for a well deserved pint and chat with a friend.
Colder weather ahead, even down here. Have a good day all.

Good morning everyone from a grey damp Northampton, feeling quite chilly.

Another very quiet day at home yesterday, apart from the return of the cats, who seem happy to be home, and won't leave me alone! I caught up with a few recorded tv programmes after lunch.
And DD-out-law contacted me last night with the news that their fridge-freezer had died, and could I find room for some chilled food in my garage fridge. She has just messaged me again to say that they can probably manage.

Plans for today are to hop on the bus and go to the shops at some time; I fancy something special for tomorrow and New Year's Day. Will give walking group a miss today.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
After a very poor night, I got up at 4, made myself tea and buttered oatcake, back to bed and slept until 8.

I am on duty at the community store this morning.
I was in Edinburgh yesterday too brook
I went to the excellent exhibition at the King's gallery - with coffee after. The walk up the Royal Mile was my workout.

After wearing them in the house briefly, I returned some sale boots which weren't comfortable. I bought a warm coat too but can't believe it was ever the original price.

Love the photos corner. Amazed at your industry gMattie and Karmalady

Sorry you aren't too well GrannyGravy

I love your posts Madeleine 😁

Hope everyone has some joy today.

Good morning from the usual dull Suffolk where we seem to have been abandoned by the sun. There is no frost however so hope it won’t be too cold on our dog walk.

DH is planning to buy a new( to him) car. He has been thinking about it for months now and looking at all kinds of alternatives, trying to interest me in all his deliberations. As long as my car goes when I start it and is reliable I have never had any interest in the make, model, age ,colour etc.

I have however agreed to go down today to our local garage showroom to look at one….which is exactly the same model as his current one, just newer. Perhaps his regular questions about… what do Ithink of this or that one…..will cease.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Good morning from a chilly and grey Torbay.

Thank you for the kind comments about my piano playing. It brought to mind this quotation:-

Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God..
Leo Buscaglia

That made me think of the many talents of the grans on here, particularly grandMattie who uses her baking and hostessing skills to the benefit of others, Marydoll with her administrative skills and many of you with caring rôles, gardening, dressmaking and artistic skills.

May the day be enriching wherever it leads you.

Good morning all from a foggy Glasgow, where it is -3° and foggy.

Karma, that bread looks amazing!

The photo of the daffodils brings hope, but so early coming out.

GG, I'm so pleased you had a successful visit. You are correct, being old and asthmatic is not for wimps!
I too, saw a lovely GP, he is my favourite. When I became too ill to work, he supported me for a year, until I was ready to admit, I had to retire on ill health grounds.

DH said my appointment lasted nearly forty five minutes! Who gets an appointment like that nowadays?
The outcome, I have an infection in my right lung, my heart needs checked out in two weeks, and one of my heart meds is probably causing the grotesquely swollen ankles. A very thorough consultation.

When the first course of antibiotics didn't work, my own GP, should have prescribed a two week course, instead of one, as per the protocol for someone like me with COPD. Of course he didn't.
I am on prophylactic antibiotics for life and they usually dampen down any infection, but they haven't worked this time.
This infection seems to be resistant and persistent.

I was overwhelmed by his kindness, in taking the time to listen and check out everything.
I jokingly said, I was a poor old soul, he agreed, I was very unwell, but certainly not old!
On telling him, I was sure his heart must have sank, when he saw it was me, he responded with;
We GPs have a soft spot for some patients and you are one of my soft spots.
I was feeling vulnerable anyway, that finished me off.😭

We had just returned from the pharmacy, (where the staff burst out laughing, when they saw me yet again.) when I spotted four cans of beer sitting at the front door.
On checking the camera, we saw the postman leaving them.
Every year, a lady gives him four cans at Christnas, but he doesn't drink, He gives them to DH, because we are his favourite customers.
He goes above and beyond his duties, he is wonderful..

Just as I started to prepare lunch, the doorbell rang. It what DS with a distraught Babydoll,
She is being toilet trained and had an accident in the car on the way here.
She alerted DS, but he couldn't stop on the country road.
She was so upset and embarrassed. 😪
However, a change of clothes and some food and she was back to her happy self.
By the time she left, I was exhausted and rested fell asleep in the conservatory.

I wish you all the best of days, and best wishes for all, who are struggling.

monk08 Tue 30-Dec-25 08:21:36

Good morning all from the Black country curtains still closed so don't know what the weather is doing.
Need to pick up DH prescription if it's ready, the chemist has changed hands and refurbishing is taking place it is now a pharmacy and travel clinic with all new staff.
Those daffodils are a lovely sight Cornergaran and that bread looks good although I'm not much of a bread person I wouldn't say no to a slice with salted butter.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Gagagran Tue 30-Dec-25 08:18:53

Good Morning from a still cold and dull south coast. This winter is feeling like pay back for the glorious summer we enjoyed.

Yesterday our DD came over with her two adult children. They were the reason we moved south here in 2012 as she needed childcare assistance when she went back to work full time, doing cancer research. Now, our only grandson is a giant - 6ft 6ins and broad with it and his older sister is a well established primary school teacher. Seems like only yesterday they were babies, then toddlers and on through all the stages of growing up. Tempus fugit indeed!

We were disappointed with the pub where we went for lunch. The food was OK but the service was at glacial speed. We had to ask to order three times and even for the bill! There were lots of young staff about but they just hadn't been trained in service.

Starting to put decorations away today and also need a visit to the library to restock books. Might wait for it to warm up a bit before venturing forth!

Kind regards to all GNs an especially to those unwell, worried or caring for loved ones.

Good morning from a bright W Kent. A lovely afternoon yesterday as friends came for tea and cake. We have known one another for 55 years and it is always good to catch up.
Some difficult letters to write today following on from Christmas cards received, one in particular was quite harrowing.
Best wishes for today

Grandmabatty Tue 30-Dec-25 08:05:45

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -1° and frosty. It's to get colder. Karma your loaf looks good. I make bread occasionally but have never tried sourdough. GrandMattie I like marmalade but can't be bothered with slicing peel.
Yesterday I took down the tree and decorations and put them all away. That took most of the morning. In the afternoon dd and the boys visited, as I anticipated, but not with washing! I'll get that today. Marks delivered my new slippers and jammies earlier than I thought so that was good. I made duck a l'orange for dinner with a salad. It turned out nicely.
Today will be quiet again. I hope to get the pesky ironing done. I've been going to do it for days now. No excuses! I'll have the other duck breast tonight. The rest of the day I'll potter. Have a good day all.

Kalu Tue 30-Dec-25 07:53:56

Good morning all. -1deg at present in Glasgow, still dark and quiet and frost on the car roof.

Some light housework, a change of bed linen and a brisk walk for some exercise and fresh air is the plan so far for today.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

lixy Tue 30-Dec-25 07:52:31

Wow karmalady. The first loaf from a new starter is always fit for a paving stone, rather like the first pancake, I find. Your second one looks impressive. Hope,it tastes as good as it looks.

Wishing everyone a good day.

brook2704 Tue 30-Dec-25 07:48:11

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dark, very cold and frosty
Sorry to hear you’re so poorly GG hoping the meds help, not pleasant but necessary
We enjoyed a lovely day yesterday in Edinburgh meeting up with DS and his partner. They treated us to a really good lunch at The Ivy and then we walked round Edinburgh for a while taking in the festive atmosphere. A long day but very much worth it. Today I’m getting back to a little bit of routine by going to the gym for a couple of classes. It’ll be nice to see the gym ladies there again.
I’m with you on the sleeping Bellas I think I must have had a very similar bug to you with an awful cough and tiredness, pleased you’re on the mend now though
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
