👋 late greeting as I suspect Mick has trotted off as GN was down until now!

Hope you’re all ready to wave goodbye to whatever 2025 brought and looking forward to good news in all departments for the next year 🥂

Best wishes to everyone on this lovely thread x

grandMattie Wed 31-Dec-25 17:48:42

Happy new year, when it comes. It will be a wonderful year! 🤞

Litterpicker Wed 31-Dec-25 17:43:04

Have a good Hogmanay and Happy New Year ‘when it comes’, Mick and all on the Good Morning thread which gives much joy to those who read. So many uplifting stories of lives lived with courage and compassion.

Allira Wed 31-Dec-25 17:01:12

Happy New Year to everyone and wishing you all a peaceful 2026 🥂🍾

mamaa - are we supposed to clean the house today? 😲
I did try to tidy up a bit!

Hello neighbour, Jaxjacky, in south Hants. Just stepped outside the door facing the harbour and it’s definitely getting an incredibly colder, with the fog hardly lifting. So much denser, so have yet to say Good Day to the Naval shipping in port! Happy New Year! wink

A belated greeting from Torbay where we have had sunshine since this morning.

It's lovely to know how many people enjoy reading this thread each day. Perhaps you'll join in with it in the New Year. You would be made welcome.

We were late rising today after a super evening at Paignton Palace Theatre watching an excellent performance of a panto: Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates. We were particularly impressed by the dancers, some of whom were very young indeed.

DH has contracted a cold so we shall hibernate tonight, having ventured out to Lidl late morning to replenish our supplies.

Wishing you joy and peace in 2026.

mamaa Wed 31-Dec-25 15:31:27

HNY to all when it arrives 🥂 I’m from scottish descent so have done all
my cleaning; the calendars are at the ready as is the 1st foot basket- that’s out by the front porch waiting to be brought in later after midnight! All the best to you all xx

Maremia Wed 31-Dec-25 15:28:03

Good Morning all from a very chilly corner of Cheshire. Late to the plate but in my defence I did try first at 6am. Like others this thread is the first thing I look for in the morning so a big thank you to you all for sharing your ups and downs. Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Grandmabatty Wed 31-Dec-25 14:35:13

Oh Scapa, that sounds awful. I hope the antibiotics help.

Good afternoon from a sunny but cold Black Country.

After trying GN this morning, I gave up and went out to Merry Hill shopping centre, primarily to buy Mum a birthday present. Also bought a metal filing box for all my various admin, the last one was very tatty. So just finished transferring everything to that.

We are going out tonight to a local pub, where there is a band playing, and there will be a small buffet. Only a mile away, so will catch the shuttle train there, and walk back.

Wishing you all a good what is left of the afternoon, and enjoy your evening however you celebrate it.

Ziplok Wed 31-Dec-25 14:27:59

Good afternoon everyone.

It was a lovely bright sunny day (but very cold) until about an hour ago. It has now clouded over and the sun has disappeared. Still very cold though.

Just want to wish you all the best for the New Year.

glammagran Wed 31-Dec-25 14:27:03

Wishing all Gransnetters a very Happy New Year.

Redcar Wed 31-Dec-25 14:22:42

Good afternoon everyone from a bright and sunny mid Essex. Very cold again. This morning my DDs took me down to my late godmother’s bungalow and met up with the other executor. He’d left some more books and photos for me to sort out, and I brought quite a few things home.
My DDs came back to my house and we’ve just had a nice M&S party food lunch!
I’ll go to see my dementia friend this evening and spend an hour or so with her and her DH.
I may stay up to see the New Year in, but may not!
Happy New Year everyone.

Greyjoy1953 Wed 31-Dec-25 14:20:58

Another lurker here. Just to wish you all a happy new year and to thank you all for keeping me sane with the things that happen to our bodies, that they are normal and just part of getting older. You have me laughing and sometime crying but on the whole I find you all very uplifting especially since I lost my mum. So THank you from Essex xx

Gagagran Wed 31-Dec-25 14:18:30

Good Afternoon everyone and glad you managed to open up Pant - I was trying from 6.30am and eventually decided to wait until after lunch.

We had a long telephone chat yesterday with DH's oldest friend who still lives in the Yorkshire village in which they grew up, were best friends and they were each other's best men. Sadly he lost his wife 6 years ago.

It was so good to catch up and reminisce about the good times they had in their youth and that we had as young marrieds and the holidays we shared. Still chuckling when I went to bed! Make new friends but keep the old, as the Girl Guide song says.

Today, I have done a freezer inventory and realised I need to restock as my winter season plan to "eat from the freezer" has been a bit too successful!

Nothing planned for New Year's Eve but a nice meal planned for tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a Very Happy 2026 with good health and happiness.

Good afternoon everyone on this gentle thread.
Having a gentle day/evening at home after a hectic time over Christmas which spanned over a week for us this year. Wishing you a Happy New Year, and hoping for better times for us all.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 31-Dec-25 13:53:46

Oh I do hope you feel better soon Scapa1 not a good start to a New Year.
Diabetics do have to be so careful so I’m pleased the NHS was there for you.

Scapa1 Wed 31-Dec-25 13:45:52

Afternoon all. The first time ever I have tried to get on this thread at 5.3;0am and it was down. Had toothache most of the weekend but very easily got an emergency appointment ment on Monday. The dentist did X-rays and discovered two acute infections and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. Although they calmed the tooth pain down unfortunately later yesterday underneath my eye and right side of my face swelled up. Looked like I had been in a boxing match!!
As a Type 1 diabetic after testing my blood and for ketones this morning and after little sleep I decided I needed to see a doctor. Much to my surprise was given an appointment 30mins later and given much stronger antibiotics. Apparently my sinuses now have an infection causing me problems with my diabetes. Well done the NHS. I did not fancy being in hospital for the New Year.

Hopefully will feel a lot better tomorrow.
Best wishes and a Happy New Year to one and all, may it bring all you hope for and comfort to those suffering.

GrannyIvy Wed 31-Dec-25 13:37:22

Good afternoon on the Good morning thread on New Year’s Eve. It has been a year of ups and downs for many of us. I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. May it be a peaceful healthy happy 2026 for all ⭐️🍾🥂🎉

Oh, so it was. Thank younpant for opening up.

Shows you the extent of discombobulation! Thanks bellas; love the nails btw.

Bellasnana Wed 31-Dec-25 13:23:08

grandMattie ‘‘twas not I but Pantglas who opened up.😊
I do hope 2026 will bring you some better days ahead.xx

Grannydaisy1 Wed 31-Dec-25 13:22:33

Like everyone I felt at a loss this morning. I love reading all your posts. Wishing you all a Happy and healthy new year. Thank you Mick for your opening post every day

Michael12 Wed 31-Dec-25 13:06:50

This is the email reply I had from Gransnet
Hello

Thanks so much for getting in touch.
It appears that Gransnet is currently down due to technical issues. Thanks for raising it - we'll have it back up and running as soon as possible.
Mick

grandMattie Wed 31-Dec-25 12:59:46

Good afternoon from a gloriously sunny but very cold Bristol.
May I add my own discombobulation to the others’ this morning?
Thank you bellasnanna for opening up. I’m glad you had a sympathetic GP who actually listened to you, MD. Try to rest today (😆) .
My shopping day yesterday was successful if only to get a very nice pair of knee boots for under £20!
There were 10 attendees at the FAB cafe; so it was worth setting up. It was very cold in the church, sadly but it obviously didn’t put people off.
Quiet afternoon, carrying on reading my book “the story of a heart” which is fascinating, about the background to a real heart transplant to a 9 yo., from the time before the donor and family went on her terminal journey, via all the medical advance developments and so on. Harrowing but really interesting read.
May your day be contented, and the welcome to a new year be easy. (My last 5 years have generally been horrible, so I’ve decided that 2026 will be brilliant!🤩)
