Morning from a frosty S Hants, we had your share of fireworks here Gagagran I’ve never known so many, they didn't peter out until nearly 2am.
Anyway, a very Happy and Healthy New Year to you all, particularly Mick who welcomes us cheerily every morning.
No plans today, it’s my son’s birthday tomorrow, I must write his card, I think MrJ is taking down Christmas rather earlier than usual, sadly I can’t help.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dry and getting light but a chilly 1 degree.
Happy New Year to you all! I decided to sit up to watch the fireworks on television as I knew if I went to bed I’d be woken up by local fireworks. Certainly the local ones were very loud.

I saw my dementia friend during the evening, she was asleep so I chatted to her DH for a while enjoyed a glass of wine with him then came home!

A day of memories for me, my DH died of Covid five years ago today. I spent most of yesterday with my DDs and their families, so won’t see them today, but they’ll ring me to check I’m ok.
I may go for my usual walk this morning, depending on how frosty it is.
Thinking of those who are struggling in any way, may the day (and New year) bring you some relief.

Have the best New Years Day possible everyone, stay warm in this cold weather.

Good morning Mick and morning friends Happy New Year.

Thank you so much for this friendly daily thread Mick it has been the start to my day everyday for many years.

It’s 1° here in S E Essex, and according to my phone we have an ice and moderate snow warning 🤷‍♀️☃️❄️

No real plans for the day, which is good, just remembering to take all the bloomin medications (only another 21/2 months to go 😹)

Thinking of those with illness and troubles 🙋‍♀️

Morning all and Happy New Year from West Oxfordshire. It is fairly cold and there is a snow warning!

I kept awake until midnight but the loudest of fireworks must have kept the whole village awake! It was like being in the middle of a gun battle. The cats were terrified and in fact they’re still on my bed!

OH and I will eat lunch out today. When we stopped celebrating on NYE, we decided to have lunch on NYD.

My conjunctivitis is improving but my left big toe isn’t. The nail was getting a bit long so I trimmed it and now the whole thing looks like a Belisha beacon.

Have a good day.🥳

Good morning with wishes for a happy new year to all. Still dark but dry today in Glasgow. High winds have returned, the first thing I heard when I woke.

Apart from a walk at some point, I will be staying put, cosy indoors day which I am content to be doing now, crocheting and generally doing whatever or maybe not doing much at all, steak pie for dinner.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant, settled day.

Good morning Michael and all GNs and a Happy New Year to one and all. I failed to stay awake beyond eleven o’clock last night so missed what were some quite spectacular fireworks going off around us. I didn’t even hear them!

Yesterday I walked down to the pharmacy to pick up my medication and then carried on walking until I found myself on the Transpennine Trail that runs close to where I live. It was a lovely day with the sun shining through the trees but I overdid it a bit. The last half mile was a real slog.

Family expected today for a New Year’s Day lunch. DD is bringing dessert so that has saved me a job.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Happy New Year from what looks to be a cold and frosty morning here in Kent. May 2026 be everything you hope for, Gransnetters.
Had a glass of wine yesterday evening but didn't manage to stay awake until midnight.
This morning will be a day of housework after children and grandchildren leave to go back to their home. Then I might start a knitting project in the afternoon.

Happy New Year everyone! Health and Happiness in 2026!

We don't stay up to welcome the new year but fireworks woke me briefly at midnight. Not as many as there used to be though.

I need to finish my Tesco delivery order for tomorrow which will include some restocking as my stores are looking depleted. Todays meal is all from the freezer.

It's very cold again but we should see the sun. Can't wait for it to warm up which will ease my aching joints.

Special thoughts to all in pain, sorrow or worry. sunshine

Good morning and a very happy New Year to you all, may it be peaceful and enjoyable.
A very frosty day here yesterday, we walked the dogs as the sun came up and the hoar frost on the grass turned golden in the low sunlight, absolutely beautiful sight.
I carried on with my crocheting and watercolour painting yesterday, all very relaxing and enjoyable. I really don’t mind my very quiet life. After many years of working flat out I don’t feel guilty for doing what I want rather than answering the demands of others and putting others first.
My younger sister thinks I’m an old lady but she’s never worked, let alone done a physically and emotionally demanding job like district nursing and palliative care. I do wish she’d think before she dictates but she’s rather like our mother 🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyway, here’s to a lovely day, dog walks and crafts, perfect!
I don’t know what we’re eating today, once again it will be what I can pull out of the freezer. I might make a casserole, I have some lovely locally grown beef, so could do dumplings too 😋
I hope you all have a lovely day 🌹

It’s pouring down in Sheffield at the moment, but looks like a sunny day when it gets light.

Got severely fed up of sitting watching tv and crocheting all afternoon and evening yesterday .
I need to do something active today.
I’m looking after our DS two sausage dogs so will take them on a walk this morning and then I have a volunteer job to do at teatime for a few hours.
A more productive day.

Tak care everyone flowers

Good morning and Happy New Year from chilly South Lanarkshire.

Thank you Mick for opening up on the first day of 2026.

I’m unused to late nights but wanted to keep DH company as the bells rang in the New Year, now I’m still in bed figuring out the logistics of feeding thirteen of us today.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Good morning from s somerset, cold and crisp today

I`ll be on a walk in the sunshine this morning, not far but far enough to get the body moving and the blood pumping. Followed by a cosy day full of nice hobbies and chats with AC and my siblings.

The nicest thing about this cold weather is to wear my hand knitted cosy jumpers, I love pure wool and its properties, warm enough to nip into the garden to pick some sprouts and to see the visible signs of spring bulbs appearing through the soil

I wish you all the best for 2026

Happy New Year to you all. May 2026 bring only the things you need for your contentment and good health.
Boy, was it cold yesterday. Not bitter before dawn, it got very frosty indeed once the sun came up and remained so until the early afternoon.
There were 9 attendees at the FAB cafe yesterday, so obviously a need was met.
My afternoon was quiet, I made a delicious stew thing with the remaining turkey. I’ve got enough for at least three more meals. Fortunately I like turkey.
Unexpectedly, I received an invitation to dinner from DD. This is the first time she has invited me after Christmas, as she is normally too busy and/or at the in-laws. It will be a bit of a scramble as I have invited some of my fellow residents who, alone/lonely to tea.
The estate has 30 households, but I’m friendly with only a few, cordial relations with the others. Besides, my flat is too small for more than about 6 guests.
I hope you all have a good day. Carpe diem 🦩⭐️🦩🦩🦩❤️ ⭐
