Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and cold outside with a light covering of snow on the ground here in Brackley this morning.
Hopefully plan to do my usual routine with a bus trip to Bicester and see people I know etc.
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from a bright very chilly Suffolk where we have a slight frost but no snow. There was a beautiful sunset last night with a sky of bright reds and purples.

I’m going to visit my dear friend having respite care later . Having started to walk round the home using a frame she is more confident about going home in just under 2 weeks and said in a message yesterday that her future looks brighter. I’m so pleased and relieved for her.

Hope those experiencing the worst of this wintry weather stay warm and safe.

Morning from a chilly S Hants, the first post Christmas bin collection has just been, a long wait.
Good to see you Marzipan pleased you’ve recovered ready for more adventures.
I had a better sleep, it does make such a difference, friend visiting this morning and I’m treating my staff (MrJ and son) to Chinese takeaway, it’s my son’s birthday too.
Have a pleasant day all.

Good morning all. Dry and sunny is the forecast for Glasgow today.

I am looking forward to meeting up with friends along with my cousin for lunch. We have been friends since primary school, all grandmothers now but we all find time for catch ups.

Lovely to see you back Marzipan and pleased to hear you have recovered well.

Best wishes to all for a good day and hopefully some respite for those struggling through difficult times.

Good morning from a snow-free Kent. Looks like a beautiful day with blue skies at the moment.
Yesterday was a lazy day. I got on with some knitting but unfortunately was too enthusiastic with pressing a little knitted doll's dress so I've ended up with a very silky garment rather than the more chunky type I wanted. That's my fault for being lazy and not blocking it properly.
Yesterday evening DH and I went to one of our favourite restaurants for dinner. Was surprised how busy it was.
I am going to take the Christmas tree down today and pack away the Christmas decorations.

Grandmabatty Fri 02-Jan-26 08:09:46

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -2° with a coating of snow which has frozen. The forecast is for more. Marzipan22 how lovely to see you posting! Welcome back.
I had a very quiet day yesterday with no visitors. It suited me as I had a bad leg day and spent a lot of time lying down in between watching Back to the Future films. I didn't have my steak pie either as I didn't feel like cooking.
My leg is still painful so I won't be going out today. I expect I might see the family at some point. So today I'll potter about the house. Have a good day all.

EkwaNimitee Fri 02-Jan-26 08:06:25

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark, freezing Carlisle. It's -2°C here currently.

Very pleased to see you Marzipan...I've been wondering what happened to you and hoped you were OK.

Yesterday was a busy day with laundry and general sorting out of stuff plus I finished my book. I ought to start another, I have received more over Christmas.
I also had phone chats with my brother and sister who I only get to see once a year. I am the only one of us who travels about and I'm the oldest!
I went for a walk mid-morning, there had obviously been a light frost and it was nippier than I'd thought. Quite a few dog walkers were about but also families with little ones trying out the bikes Santa had brought.

Today, there's still laundry to fettle and cupboards to revise. And Christmas cake to eat.....part of me wishes I hadn't made it, there's only me to eat it. It may be a small one but I need it like a hole in the head! Need to try and lose weight though it's practically impossible when you're on steroids. However, I've never not made a Christmas cake since I married and it's hard to think of stopping.

I'm another who keeps feeling it's a weekend, roll on Monday!

Best wishes to you all.

Gagagran Fri 02-Jan-26 07:58:40

Good Morning everyone from a 3c south coast. No sign of the white stuff here but it's rare that we see anything more than a bit of sleet.

The Tesco delivery is due imminently but disappointingly there are several items missing. They are usually spot on with everything but I suppose there were a lot of people in store yesterday, doing the same restocking that I am trying to do!
Might need to venture forth to the store after the weekend - when is that again? It's felt like it's been here for the past two weeks!

Nice to see you back here Marzipan and look forward to reading of your exploits in beautiful Cornwall. Have you managed to keep your mountainous garden in order whilst convalescing?

Kind regards to all on the sick list or caring for loved ones on it. May 2026 be a better year.

luluaugust Fri 02-Jan-26 07:51:49

Good morning from a frosty W Kent. Off to the supermarket asap as I am hosting the family on Sunday and DB is back with us tomorrow
Welcome back marzipan

Bellasnana Fri 02-Jan-26 07:51:03

Good morning from Malta where it looks damp, gloomy and the high is forecast at 16°C. It feels colder inside than out.

I’m late waking up after another very good night’s sleep. Since having the flu I have slept better than I have in years!

How lovely to see you posting Marzipan. You were missed.🤗

I didn’t do much yesterday and expect today will be more of the same although I ought to go to Lidl to restock a few things.

I had no appetite whilst I was unwell and so I have had to throw out a few things that had gone well past their best before date. I hate waste but am not risking making myself sick again.

I need to pay my car tax and insurance but it can wait until next week.

I’m also hoping the premium bonds come up with a nice New Year present. Highly unlikely but you never know! I didn’t do too badly last year but no big wins.

Hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing. ☀️

brook2704 Fri 02-Jan-26 07:50:56

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve snow and it’s very cold, more snow in the forecast for today
Yesterday we tidied away all the Christmas decorations, I’m sure we’ll find something we’ve missed today though! Not sure about our plans for today yet, we should really go for a walk but will see how icy it is
Lovely to have you back with us Marzipan
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Redcar Fri 02-Jan-26 07:46:17

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s cloudy at the moment, barely above freezing and I was surprised to see a few flakes of snow settling on the car! We have warnings of snow showers but the weather maps show clear skies for us. Who knows what it will do!
Thank you everyone for your messages of support yesterday . I kept myself busy most of the time. I went for my usual walk and spent a little time helping one of my dog walking friends pick up some of the mess left by the people setting off fireworks in the recreation ground. Some sticks from rockets and lots of cardboard bits from the big fireworks, probably not good for dogs to pick up.

Welcome back Marzipan22 I’ve missed your posts from Cornwall and am so pleased you are now better and able to resume your Lego wrangling! Looking forward to hearing about your bus journeys around Cornwall soon.

Like others, I’m finding it hard to get to grips that today is Friday, every day this week has felt like the weekend.
I’ll leave the Christmas tree up until the weekend but will leave the outside lights in the back garden as i like to see them sparkling in the dark.

Have the best day possible everyone, please take care if you have to go out, and stay warm.

cornergran Fri 02-Jan-26 07:35:44

Morning Mick, morning All. The window has rain spots rather than the snow we were promised. Forecast says the sun will appear later.

Quiet one yesterday, Mr C needed a rest after Longleat fun. I plodded on with this and that interspersed with phone calls.

Hope to head for town once we can see what the weather is up to, a watch needing a battery, a package to collect then back via a supermarket, The Range and Dunelm. Hmm. May need more than one coffee. I’d rather Mr C stayed home and carried on resting as we’re heading out along two motorways tomorrow to visit our son but he won’t, he likes shops.

Good to see you marzipan. Best wishes to everyone and a hope this Friday is kind to us all.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 02-Jan-26 07:31:10

The temperature has dropped to zero now and the snow has frozen.
My S has just left for work and the drive was treacherous as he walked to his car, he was sliding about.
I hope everyone stays safe today.

monk08 Fri 02-Jan-26 07:11:36

Good morning all from the Black country where we have snow.
Today's plan was a trip to designer outlet with DS and family will wait to see if they still want to go.
Good to see you back Marzipan22 👋 the good morning from Cornwall made me think of you then the Lego confirmed it.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Jan-26 07:05:29

Good morning from S E Essex it’s 1° we have a weather warning for moderate snow from lunchtime ❄️❄️❄️

I have to go and pick up a birthday cake for The Imp (cannot believe he will be 6 tomorrow 🙀) first thing, a visit to M & S Food Hall and local butchers.

Good to see you back Marzipan22 👋

BlueSapphire Fri 02-Jan-26 06:58:00

Good morning everyone from a still dark and damp Northampton, no snow here yet, but feeling very chilly.

It was a quiet day at home yesterday, enjoying music programmes on tv - Traitors at the Proms which was surprisingly good, and the New Year's Day concert from Vienna.

I also packed up two parcels to take to the Post Office today - a coat which turned out to be too big, and some BT equipment no longer needed.

Also wrote a sympathy card for family in Australia after the death of their father (late DH's cousin), which I shall take to the Post office after lunch, and then hop on the bus to the rugby stadium fans shop - a friend is after a Saints supporters bobble hat for her nephew and I volunteered to get one for her.
Then may go home via Matalan and Sainsbury's as they are all in the same area.

But first I am planning on preparing a chicken curry this morning for the slow cooker, which will just cook away all day.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

karmalady Fri 02-Jan-26 06:53:50

Good morning from s somerset, bright and icy today

I am glad to be getting back to normal now, glad it is over for another year and looking forward to receiving my smart watch, to keep tabs on my fitness, so I stay within my safe range, appropriate for my age

Personal aims for 2026, to try and get back to cycling fitness by march and to stash bust, I have a large amount of stash and will `shop` from my stash this year.

Have a good day

Pantglas2 Fri 02-Jan-26 06:52:21

Good morning everyone from a very wet north 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 coast where it has to be particularly bad everywhere else before we get sleet, frost or snow …for which I am grateful as I have a busy weekend after some lovely quiet days here at PG Towers!

The tree came down yesterday morning before a lovely roast duck a l’orange and finished off with my grenadine tiramisu 😋
I rather like clearing the decks of the old year ready to face whatever 2026 brings - I hope we all have some respite from the worries🙏

So… Lidl & Tesco today, Dad’s with duck dinner tomorrow, pack on Sunday ready for a Bingo winnings jolly with my friend to Swansea at the crack of dawn on Monday 🚂 - good job I pace myself isn’t it🫨

I shall pop in later and read of everyone’s bizzinesses x

RosesandLilac Fri 02-Jan-26 06:50:19

Good morning, it’s drizzling here on the hillside in south Glos, very cold too as barely above freezing.
I tossed and turned all night, I have no idea why so little sleep
I have the hairdresser first thing so I need to get the dogs walked as soon as it starts getting light.
Yesterday we did a regular village walk, it was lovely with so many birds singing and bright sunshine. Met a friend part way round with her dog so bigger dog and her Welsh sheepdog had a good chase around.
I tidied my cupboard that has food containers, I threw out a dozen lids that didn’t have any bottoms, most peculiar! Goodness knows where they went.
I did more of my illuminated alphabet too, it’s going well and I’m really enjoying doing the fine detail.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

Morning all from a chilly West Oxfordshire. Snow is forecast but I haven’t seen any yet.

Today is the final day of using antibiotic eyedrops. My left eye is much better but the right eye is still a little sore and watery. I may have to see the Pharmacist and see what she suggests.

Otherwise a quiet day for me. OH has a list of things to do. I have a stack of ironing as always. Tomorrow we will strip the tree and try and drag it through the front door withough being left knee deep in pine needles!

Have a good day. I’m especially thinking of MaryD and the FGT2S.

'The Lego wrangling in S Cornwall and Wetherspoons was a clue.'

More of a giveaway than a clue! 🤣🤣

Aldom Fri 02-Jan-26 06:34:43

Good morning Mick and everyone.
May I wish you all a peaceful New year, with good health and happiness in abundance.
Lovely to see Marzipan posting. I've often thought about you and wondered if you were alright.
I'm meeting my fellow Clergy Widows for coffee this morning. There are very few of us left.
I will do a bit of shopping whilst I'm in town.
My thoughts are with those who are finding life challenging for whatever reason. flowers

HelterSkelter1 Fri 02-Jan-26 06:30:56

I thought it must be you Mizuna/Marzipan. The Lego wrangling in S Cornwall and Wetherspoons was a clue.
Glad to hear you are well recovered. I look forward to your posts and envy your ability to hop on a bus to other coastal towns which I hope you can do now this Spring.

madeleine45 Fri 02-Jan-26 06:30:24

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark and cold, but not snowy North Yorkshire. I was awake from about 4am and tried in vain to get back to sleep so got up and did odd bits and pieces. I too am having trouble remembering it is friday not saturday, but hopefully after this weekend we can get back to some semblence of order.

Yesterday went right up Swaledale in the early afternoon and there was a little snow and sleet about. It got a bit heavier up round Thwaite and Keld, and wondered if it would be a problem for the fireworks later, but it eased off and it was a very good display of fireworks in Reeth. They are always well organised and the fireworks are on the side near the Burgoyne hotel all cordoned off and then there is the road and then the rest of the green where you can stand and watch. They were all very well done but even noisier than previous occasions. It is a square and you get reverberations and the sound is also magnified . As a trend fireworks everywhere seem to become more noisy year by year, it was a bit of a racket but done very well. Had planned to get fish and chips on the way home but the shop was shut, which I was rather surprised about. However it was a lovely day, which for me, any day spent in Swaledale is worthwhile. Today I need to go through cupboards and fridge and restock from supermarket and bakers etc. Then need to do things like ironing and sorting out drawers and as it is bitterly cold and likely to remain so all day will suit very nicely. No great plans apart from now writing up any appointments etc on the new calendar to make sure I get to the place I am meant to be at the right time and date.

Hope you get out as usual Mick and not too cold on the bus.
GrandMattie glad the teaparty went well Greyduster that wasnot a very good start to your morning. Hope the day improves as it goes on and perhaps you will have a bit of anap at some point in the day. Good to see you back Marzipan22, and hope that by next week we will all be more organised and know what day and time we are in!! I look forward to another year of interesting reading on Gransnet and hope it is a healthy and happy new year for us all

Melanie61 Fri 02-Jan-26 06:19:15

Hi from Sheffield, feels very cold.

I too am expecting a big win from the Premium Bonds. I don’t want the million but a few thousand is definitely coming my way, haha.

Back to work today, but as I love my job it doesn’t feel like a hardship.
Also seeing a friend that I haven’t seen since before Christmas so looking forward to a catch up.

Take care everyone flowers
