In a couple of hours my lovely husband is going to take a dog to our daughters(long story)!

I have opted to stay behind, in preparation yesterday I washed, ironed, made beds and cleaned, the fridge is full, the laundry basket empty and the fire laid.

After 10 lovely days of hosting people I want to sit and be very quiet.

Usually when I have such plans something comes along to scupper them.

Keep your fingers crossed please.

Enjoy your peace. We do need quiet times.

I am doing the same- I have all my clearing up to do but this morning it can wait...

We all need to recharge our batteries. Savour every second.

Make sure you don't have a wobble and end up doing any 'little jobs' Sago! Enjoy!

all i have done is run around after people too. I'm taking the tree down today and I have two days rest before i go back to work!

The car has gone, the gates have shut, kettle on and the sun is shining through into the living room.

I have an audio book for today and a viewing list for this evening.

My car is staying put.

This is better than any Christmas gift!

Enjoy every moment of your peace Sago. We have grandchildren visiting us for 5 days and I know we will be exhausted at the end of it, even though we love them to bits and enjoy seeing them.

Everyone gone here. All the decorations and tree down. Nice clean house but trapped in it by snow and ice. Tried to go out for a walk just now but icy pavements and roads. DH had a couple of falls in previous winters and despites big shoe/boots with tractor tires he is very nervous. I have a horrible feeling he wanting to teach me backgammon this afternoon- will need liquid support for that.

go and lie down on your bed so visitors can be ignored. get a good book or watch your favourite series or film, if you have some lovely goodies left enjoy yourself

That's my favourite escape Iabazs glad I'm not the only one.

Sometimes I take my coffee things and book and drive up to my special place in Swaledale rather than stay at home. That way I am not in , if anyone calls and cannot be lured into just doing that one other job. (I also "forget" to turn my phone on for an hour to ensure my total freedom from the world) Watching the birds through my binoculars in peace and quiet restores balance to my life and the ability to carry on.

Love our families as we do it's a treat sometimes to just have some hush. I hope you wallowed in the moment Sago

Oh it was sheer bliss, I read, watched films, just sat and had a lovely time.

Madelaine45 How I love Swaledale, there is a certain view, all the little fields and barns, my heart skips a beat when I see it.

We will be at our holiday let in North Yorkshire next week, I’m hoping the crisp dry weather continues for walking.

I must admit that when DD, SIL, and DGD left a week ago, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I love them but 12 days stay was far too long. One to nip in the bud next time.

Was it Pliny who said, "guests are like fish, they stink after 3 days"?

Fallingstar Mon 05-Jan-26 16:50:30

Yep family visiting is so sweet but so is the day they pack to go. Then things can go back to normal. Sigh of relief.

Sago I thought the thread was about yet another war that DT had managed to stop! 😆
Yes a bit of peace and quiet is magic isn’t it? Time alone at home with nothing to bother you.😃

Norah Mon 05-Jan-26 20:14:50

Peace.. sigh of relief!!!!!

TillyTrotter Mon 05-Jan-26 20:16:50

I think like you on each day my DH is due to play golf,
but in winter the weather means that often the game is off, and my quiet morning is anything but 🥹

This was me yesterday after 10 days of family staying. Much as I love them really this year it felt too much.I'm conscious of the fact that in years to come grandchildren will be older and doing their own thing so don't like to grumble. But oh the relief of a peaceful and tidy house. It's one of the reasons I love January. Quiet, calm and a new beginning.
