Sparklers

Yes this has been all over the news since New Years Eve. Mostly young people. Over a hundred injured, many with severe burns. Tragic.

Have spent many NYE’s in European Ski Resorts, sparklers in drinks (any drinks) is a given.

Yet there was a ban on fireworks in those villages. My DD and family live on the other side of the Valley. Their children don’t think they know anyone there but some of their friends do. My DGD djs in a nightclub for pocket money. I’m hoping her parents will tell he r to stop.

What a tragedy.

The idea of any fireworks indoors sounds wrong but I'm sure we had sparklers at birthday parties etc.

I more question what the ceiling panelling was made of. If it hadn’t been so flammable, the people inside would have had more time to escape. Also, the building doesn’t appear to have any fire escapes.

I must admit I was surprised that Swiss Health and Safety would be so lax but perhaps someone must have smuggled
them in.

Pyrotechnics and nightclubs shouldn't go together. This isn't the first time such a tragedy has happened, I recall some band letting them off somewhere in Europe where another number of young people perished.

Such an awful tragedy.

They didn't look like the sort of Sparklers we have in Britain. I know some fireworks on the continent are far more dangerous than the ones we have here.

They were not the little sparklers of our childhood I don’t think
I don’t even think it was just the sparklers had they been say on the table, but they were big old sparklers in champagne bottles held aloft by a girl sitting on a guy shoulders with the low beams and some kind of sound proofing on low ceilings it was so easy for the fire to start so innocently
The party was in a basement with one small exit as I read it, basically an accident waiting to happen
It’s tragic an absolute total tragedy so many young people having a night of a lifetime so many killed and injured I think it was 49 dead last I heard,

A dreadful tragedy. I know we will find out what caused the fire once initial investigations conclude. It does seem though large sparklers caught a flammable ceiling

My family talked about this at our NYDay get together. Their parents took my four grandchildren aged 7 and ten to their first New Year’s Eve parties. Two separate house parties which included fireworks at midnight. Each host had provided sparklers for the children. Their parents are now forty year olds and grew up with sparklers. They all agreed the sight of excited children moving around holding sparklers is beyond their health n safety assessments

The one I was given was dangerous, had I known, I'd have binned it.

Yes, they're not the kind of sparklers you wave outside in the garden. I know about pyrotechnics because DH was a theatre lighting director and used indoor "sparklers" on stage.

Indoor flaming fountains are not necessarily hot, you can run your hand through them. They are fine when used safely. It appears it might be the foam material above them that was the issue in the Swiss building

I don't know what I was given but it burnt the worktop.

It's all to do with gerbs if anyone is remotely interested. The ice gerb sparks are cold burning, and perfect for stage work or close to performers. You see them at pop concerts.

I don't know what type the Swiss ones were, but from the photos they didn't look like random fireworks brought into the venue.
