Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -3° and frosty. I have the fire on til the central heating gets going properly. Brook safe journey down that road to Edinburgh. Jaxjacky I'm glad you had a good night. Cornergran I really hope your heating behaves itself. Marzipan22'a lovely photo.
Yesterday the family got together for breakfast, courtesy of my aunt and uncle who are heading to Spain on Tuesday for a couple of months. We had a lovely time. The boys behaved beautifully. The only issue is my hearing is deteriorating and I struggled to keep up with the conversation. I met a couple I know who I haven't seen for some time and had a quick chat. Then dropped off ds at the station and spent the rest of the day quietly.
Today I got up late after a disturbed night. I have no plans as all the housework was done and the Christmas decorations are away. It's too cold to do anything in the garden. I shall read and make the most of the peace as it's back to childcare tomorrow! I'm going to make a slow cooker pot of lentil soup and a pot of stovies to keep me going for the next couple of days. Real winter food. Have a good day all.

Good morning from -4 degree Cambridgeshire. We will do a walk this morning to the next village across footpaths and meadows. Decided to leave the Christmas decorations up until tmrw morning. Other than that a quiet day in and will cook a chicken in white wine recipe in the slow cooker later.

We had a £125 win on PB so happy with that.

Wishing a happy Sunday to all. Keep safe and warm 🌺

Morning all from a freezing West Oxfordshire.

I should go to church this morning but the paths are lethal and I have a tendency to slip on slippery pavements! Three incidents over the years involved a broken bone in my back, a very badly broken arm and a damaged shoulder. So I will stay in and cook a beef stew with dumplings and a gooseberry crumble.

I stripped the tree of all its decorations yesterday and packed everything away. OH hoovered all the pine needles and took the tree outside.

Have a good day. Thinking especially of the FGT2S.

Jaxjacky Sun 04-Jan-26 08:13:53

Morning from a very frosty S Hants, -4, I had a good night minus knee brace but will be very careful with all movements.
I hope your heating is sorted soon corner brrrr.
MrJ will change our bed today, children might visit, but all gearing up for work/school tomorrow. I won £25 on PB.
Have a pleasant day all.

Good morning from chilly Shropshire.

I had a lovely day in Liverpool with DD1 and DGD.We had kept the day a surprise from DGD.Her first surprise was that I was going out with her and mummy. Her cry of delight and the big hug were lovely. We enjoyed lunch, a little bit of shopping then the musical Matilda. The drive home was a bit scary with heavy traffic and very fast drivers.I had a disturbed night though as my blood glucose alarm alerted me to low blood sugar.I thought if anything it may be a bit high after lunch out but I presume all the exercise cancelled the extra carbs🤦🏼‍♀️It took a while to regulate it, then it went high, finally in range again this morning but meant not much sleep😴

Today we are going to Stafford to spend the day with DD2 and little family.

Thoughts with Aldom 💐and hoping Georgesgran is ok🙏🏻

Also thinking of all our mountaineers and wishing everyone a good day🌻🦩

Good morning. Very cold here in N.Bucks but clear skies and sunshine forecast.
Yesterday we decided in the end to take down the Christmas decorations and it was nice to see our newly decorated lounge as it should be for the first time.
Today we just have my miniature village to dismantle from the hall .
We are meeting DD3 and family for a walk and coffee this morning and I expect the boys will be hoping for a pancake at their favourite cafe.
We’ll see how the rest of the day unfolds, hope it’s a good one for you all.

Good morning everyone from Inverness, there’s lots of snow here and it’s very cold
Hoping you get your boiler sorted quickly corner such a hassle. We had a power cut yesterday evening but fortunately it didn’t last long.
Later today we’re travelling down to Edinburgh, we’ve a flight in the morning to Madeira, escaping from this weather for a week and to set us up ready for the new year. I’m looking forward to being there but not the journey, that’s usual for me these days
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from a cold but bright mid Essex. The garden thermometer says it’s -4 out there. I didn’t go out yesterday and probably won’t today either. I have some letters to post, but if I do it today, they’ll just sit in the post box until tomorrow, so I’ll leave it and hope it’s a bit less cold then.
Both DDs will call in today and will help dismantle the Christmas tree (I hope).
I hope you can get the boiler fixed soon corner. I’m pleased you had a good visit to your son and hope that his new venture works well for him.
I must check my premium bonds, I always hope for a big win and am always disappointed!
Hoping for an enjoyable Sunday for everyone, keep warm and stay safe if you have to go out!

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where there is a beautiful big moon and it's -4°C.

Yesterday my planned drive out in to the countryside didn't happen, not because of road conditions but because the inside of my windscreen had a thickish layer of hard ice on it. Trying to scrape it off proved difficult and, as it was obvious it was going to take ages, I gave up. I walked to the further convenience store instead but didn't get all I wanted, they were woefully out of things fresh. At least I got my paper and a good walk. The rest of the day was quiet, puzzling, photo-editing and reading that paper.

Today I may go for a walk later, the paths in the park are dry. The Pond is frozen so the birds are standing on ice. Yesterday, not a swan was to be seen, probably they've gone for a swim somewhere else.
My next job is to tackle the ironing followed by more caffeine.
I must also reduce the air moisture levels in my car so I'll start by removing the damp mats etc. However, I'm not going to disturb the neighbours on a Sunday by messing about with heating and air blowers, I see that it's supposed to warm up a tad later in the week so the ice should melt and then I'll have a twiddle with various settings.
My afternoon is to be spent reading plus a further look through my wardrobes looking for more clothes that no longer fit, bags are accumulating for the charity shops...

I hope you all have a pleasant day if possible.

Good morning from a -3 W Kent. A busy day ahead with 11 for lunch. I am doing an old fashioned Boxing Day type lunch so most of the preparations are done. It will be lovely to see the family together for a short while.
I hope you get the boiler sorted out Cornergran
Best wishes to all

Good morning from a very cold but beautifully moon lit N Surrey.

I felt this month was going to be a Very Big Win on the Premium Bonds. Sadly zero! Oh well maybe February.

Today I will hand wash a new roll neck tee shirt. I think my unpredictable washing machine may be a bit rough for it. And also chop up some carrots, onions and leeks ready for cooking a vat of minced beef tomorrow. Having the veg good to go makes such a difference. It all seems less of an effort when prepared. It has taken me 50 years to realise this. Better late than never I suppose
Take care all on the pavements

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a cold, dark and miserable day in north Yorkshire. I have had a rubbish night, little sleep, bit of a nightmare, and to cap it all flipping cramp, which has meant I am only now carefully moving about. Not at all a good start to my day. Have to hope that things will improve soon. My plans for a great sort and tidy of the lounge are being put on the back burner and it will depend on how and when I am able to move about well that will decide on what gets done today.

Yesterday I had a quietish day but got bits done and the washing dry and felt quite pleased with what was sorted and that I had had quite a good day , actually getting a few things done, and a bit rested. Ah well just have to see what I can manage. If it stays this cold I shant be going out, as I cant walk briskly enough to keep warm and so I shall have to hope there is some music that I want to dance to or exercise to. I had intended to really try and go out every morning for a short walk at least, but will have to give that up for today unless my legs improve quite a bit. It is so maddening when I cant do what I want to, and am not in charge of how my day goes. Oh well so long as I keep breathing!

Ah, an immediate improvement. Bach before 7 to cheer my day! I know mentally that the days are also getting lighter bit by bit, but no sign of light here yet. Well I need to get my calendar and diary brought up to date, which I didnt get done yesterday. This week I already have a few things planned. Monday is the course on the internet etc and hopefully I shall get up to date on the latest scams and be able to show my ways of dealing with them and have it all checked that I am as up to date as possible. On thursday I have my last christmas related thing as we have a meeting followed by a lunch that we chose to leave until after christmas as people were very busy beforehand. It should be very nice having a lunch in a quieter cafe with a choice of food. That will be something I wont have planned or cooked which will be good. I have to read through my instructions on my new buggy, now that I have started to use it , and hopefully all the instructions will now make more sense. I need to begin to use it regularly and gain confidence in the buggy itself and in my finding out how far it goes with no problems etc. I plan to choose a miserable day and go to a shopping centre where there is no available buggies of theirs and see how I get on. Need to think of what sort of lock I need to buy that will be simple and quick to use and get into the habit of locking it every time I leave it somewhere. Hopefully I shall then feel more free and able to go around at the time I want to. Not heard from my son yet and hoping that he has been able to get to the dentist and they have been able to help him sort the toothache out even if it means taking it out. It has been so miserable for him all over christmas, such a shame. Well still very dark outside, doesnt feel any warmer either, just have to hope the day improves.

A sensible plan for the day Mick , think we shall all be doing something similar. Hope you do well with your spanish homework grandMattie. Karmalady hope all the baking goes well.Marzipan I had heard of this asda offer for our age group but there is only a little asda here , which doesnt have a cafe and it is not in a convenient place so I dont tend to shop there. Must remember if I am near a bigger Asda to try it out. Bellasnana well done winning on the premium bonds. I have had premium bonds from about the age of 12 and only won one £25 in all these years. You will enjoy seeing the cat again I am sure. I could just do with a cat here now to stroke and improve my morning.

Well hope that the day goes well for everyone, keep warm and enjoy whatever you can.

cornergran Sun 04-Jan-26 07:15:19

Morning Mick, morning All. Alexa says it’s -1 outside, due to rise to 4 degrees. Maybe some snow late afternoon.

After an excellent day, successful shopping and an enjoyable visit to our son, we came home to gas boiler heating problems. It was off when we got home, worked OK for a while, then didn't. Wait and see time this morning. Fortunately we have electric heaters as backup if needed. Hot water is the major challenge. I truly don’t want to bother our boiler Mr Fixit on a Sunday but if we’ve no heating later I’ll send him a message and ask if he can come tomorrow. I know he’ll be busy though, someone’s law says boilers misbehave when the temperature drops. Wish us luck.

Other than fretting about the boiler I’ll be busy packing Christmas away. Most is waiting to return to storage. Just a few bits in the living room and the decks will be cleared. A roast to warm us later and I suspect many mugs of hot drinks along the way.

Best wishes to everyone and a hope Sunday is kind to us all.

Gagagran Sun 04-Jan-26 06:58:52

Good morning everyone. Brrr! It's -5c here on the south east Hampshire coast. Not to my taste at all! I am a warm weather aficionado. Nice to see the sun and endless blue skies though.

Household chores this morning and DH might do a bit more in the front garden. He doesn't mind the cold and likes fresh air. I put it down to him being a northerner and lifelong sports participant.

Wishing ease and comfort for all who need it.

Bellasnana Sun 04-Jan-26 06:34:05

Good morning from Malta where a dry day is forecast with a high of 18°C.

Spent yesterday cleaning my flat, it doesn’t take long but I did the windows and a few other jobs that only need doing every so often.

DD3, SiL and the boys came over at 5pm together with DD3’s godparents, old friends who we’ve known for years. Her godfather used to be our accountant and was a friend of late DH before I met him.

It was lovely seeing them and having company. The boys were on their best behaviour so made a good impression!😂

I checked my premium bonds and was very happy with the £250 win. Every little bit helps!

I think DS and his girlfriend are bringing the cat Winston for a visit today. I miss him so will be glad to see him again.

Hoping your day goes well. Stay warm!🤗

Good morning from a very cold NE where yesterday's snowfall has frozen.
The moon is shining through my bedroom window again and at first I thought it was daylight.
Nothing planned for today except for some tidying round, I took the Christmas tree down yesterday and packed everything ready for the attic.
I was worried about GD driving back to university but DS said she managed the journey without any problems despite the weather conditions.
Have a good day.

RosesandLilac Sun 04-Jan-26 06:29:25

Good morning, very frosty and -4° here in south Glos, another cold dog walk this morning, I will be well wrapped up! The dogs don’t mind at all and it’s lovely being outside in, hopefully, bright sunshine.
I have enjoyed doing some arty stuff every day, more today as I have sorted out my coloured pencils to try doing some ink and coloured pencils work, something new for me.
I’ll also do the next two letters of my illuminated alphabet, H and I.
Wishing you a peaceful day 🌹

karmalady Sun 04-Jan-26 06:22:54

I kept my snow trainers Allsorts and glad I did, for emergencies, when I might have to go out, The pavements into town are like ice rinks, in freezing weather. It might be ok this afternoon as high will be 4 degrees after deep freeze -4 all night. I need to post that letter, anyway cabin fever is lurking

Allsorts Sun 04-Jan-26 06:16:46

Good morning everyone, another cold, crispy start to the dayl I will attempt a walk later if the pavements clear of ice mid day, ours are dangerous, wish I had kept my snow boots.. Like Karma I will be doing the stairs many times.

Marzipan22 Sun 04-Jan-26 06:14:39

Good morning from a dark, still and coldish Cornwall. Was aiming for Lidl's yesterday when the Asda bus came along so I ended up there and took advantage of their soup, bread and refillable tea/coffee offer for over-60's, for the princely sum of £1. A trip to The Range assaulted all my senses and anyway they didn't have what I was looking for. Came home and hunkered down with sone sewing and had a fairly lazy day.

Later today I'm off to my eldest son's a short bus ride away, to see my youngest grandchildren and stay for supper.

The photo is my eight-year-old grandson harvesting brambles in the wilderness above my flat a few nights ago.

karmalady Sun 04-Jan-26 05:53:25

Good morning from s somerset, it will be very cold today, icy

I had been hoping to get out for a longer walk but not while it is so cold, I shall only go out to post a letter. I am missing the dedicated exercise but rebounding and running up and down stairs will have to suffice today

A baking/cooking session is beckoning today, I need some soups for my freezer and also want to bake a sourdough loaf. My last starter was a weak wimp so I have spent a whole week working with different flours to get a stronger starter for a good sd

I also want to be mixing up a large batch of hm muesli from what I have in my store -cupboard. All part of my 2026 theme of shopping from my stash. Plenty of mindful chopping for me today

In a minute I will go and put ingredients together for an einkorn wholemeal loaf in my breadmaker. I like to leave the flour in contact with the water for several hours before it mixes, the process is called called autolyse. All my bread is sliced next day and frozen and I use an electric slicer for that, to save my hands

So, plenty to do today as well as reading a book about spinning and getting on with my knitting

Have a good day

Good morning from cold and frosty South Lanarkshire.

I realised last night that I haven’t been outside for days, I think perhaps Tuesday was the last time. DH has been doing all the dog walking, I’m going to have to make more of an effort.

Mass this morning though so at least I’ll be out of the house for a while.

Have the best day possible everyone.

grandMattie Sun 04-Jan-26 05:24:03

Good morning from Bristol. I think that it’s less cold than yesterday.
There was a sprinkling of what looked like tiny hailstones, but the pavements were dry and definitely not slippery although it was very cold. One good thing was that there was no wind, and it was a beautiful clear day.
The setting moon lived up to its moniker of being a super moon, “wolf moon” apparently. Gorgeous too.
We didn’t expect anyone at the coffee and chat in church yesterday. To our surprise, 18 people turned up! We had to send them away after nearly two hours despite the church being unheated, therefore very cold. It was so cold that we heated the mugs before serving the hot drinks!
Only church service today. Nothing for the rest of the day. I must try to do my Spanish homework for Friday. I try not to leave it until the night before!
May our mountaineers (and everyone) have a blessed Sunday.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩⭐️🦩❤️
