I must have avery twisty bowel, as my colonoscopy was extremely painful. So glad that others' experiences were better!

I've had quite a few colonoscopies. The prep is definitely the hardest part. The person doing it was grateful I'd followed the laxative instructions as she said it helps them to see better. I've had polyps treated during the procedure & can honestly say I wasn't in any pain. I'm just glad these procedures exist. After all what are the alternatives?

Thanks everyone ☺️ Primrose it wasn't that bad and didn't take long. The powder to empty me out was worse and kept me awake for hours but its all done now 😊

I also hated the preparation medication, by the time I got to the hospital I was exhausted and very sore. I found the actual procedure very unpleasant, apparently part of my bowel was very restricted and it was a horrible sensation.

The laxative made me really sick too so I refused to take it the second tine. They did an enema which didn’t fully work but was Ok. The last time I had a virtual colonoscopy which is less invasive but still needs a laxative. However it was a different one and it wasn’t anywhere near as violent. The whole think was much better. Worth asking for in future. The only downside is that they cannot take samples for biopsy if needed.

That laxative powder is awful isn’t it? I’m not sure if I’ve already mentioned it but I had a colonoscopy in November (all fine) and was horribly sick with the laxative and I fainted too! When I mentioned it to the nurse she said I was the third person that day who had been sick, but no one else had fainted.

I am currently having treatment with blood tests and CT scans with a yearly phone call from a colorectal nurse, in final 3rd year.
