Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -1° and snowing lightly. There's not much coverage but it looks icy too. Sar I hope you feel better soon. Blue Sapphire my son did a glitter bomb thing for my sixtieth birthday and is still finding glitter and that was over seven years ago! It maybe says more about his hoovering though 😂
Yesterday I achieved little. I pottered about in the morning but went back to bed in the afternoon for a long nap. So my kitchen cleaning didn't happen. I've definitely been hibernating this winter. My body shuts down in the cold. I have an under active thyroid and changes in temperature don't suit me at all.
Today I'm trying to thwart my natural sloth tendency and I'm going out with dd for a coffee. She's picking me up after she's dropped off the boys at school so I'll have to get a move on. Then, depending on how I feel, I will clean those kitchen cupboard doors. I shall water all the house plants too. I have two poinsettias which were given as gifts. Sadly they are dropping leaves. I've never been able to keep poinsettias for long, despite my best efforts. Have a good day all

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark, but we have snow on the ground. At ten o’clock last night it was really coming down, but it must have turned to rain at some point as I can now see the car again. I shall keep a watching brief as to whether I go out to do my stint at school this afternoon. Hopefully it will have mostly gone by then and be better underfoot.

Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning from Shropshire☃️

Yesterday we drove to Llandudno, watched Miss Saigon and then drove home.Thank goodness we drove straight home as we had just pulled onto the drive and there was an explosion of snow.It is quite deep but rain forecast today so may clear.

Miss Saigon was one of the best productions we have seen although I found the story emotional.

Plans for today are on hold.We usually have the children for a sleepover on a Friday but the snow is too deep for us to get off the drive let alone the road.

We had a call last night to say mum has deteriorated.I am waiting for a call this morning and praying we can get there if we need to.She has rallied before.I will pack a bag and then if we can get there can stay with her.

I am glad olddudders is on the mend and hope others are to.I hope Marydoll is feeling better today🙏🏻

Thoughts to all mountaineers and wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻☃️

Good morning from a very wet but now snow free Suffolk where we seem to have escaped from most of the storm last night. I hope those of you in other parts of the country,in spite of what looked like awful predictions, are safe and without any damage to your homes.

We ventured out yesterday afternoon in my car,the first time since last Friday and the lanes were ice free. Our cleaners came as planned as did S who is a computer problem solving genius and life seemed like normal.

I hope to visit my dear friend later this morning getting towards the end of her stay for respite and looking forward to going home next week. Her fears about how she will manage are lessening as her mobility improves and her confidence increases.

Thinking of those who are coping with illness themselves or caring for others.

Good morning all from the outer Hebrides.
I am still on holiday here. Had another lovely day yesterday. My friends took me to see the Callanish stones and a beautiful beach where we picnicked in the sand dunes.
Hardly another soul around.

Today is my last full day. I think it will be the museum.

Sorry to hear that parts of the country have been ravaged by the storm. It's cold here but calm.

Sorry you are still in pain Madeleine.
Stay safe and cosy everybody.

Morning from a damp S Hants, it’s 3 feels like-8 according to my phone, we escaped any really ferocious weather.

I have physio this morning, mainly for my reassurance, this whole hip palaver has dented my usual confidence.
MrJ will be making a pie, not shepherds or cottage as it’s pork mince 🙂

Good morning from a 5C northwest coast. I felt better yesterday and got on with jobs around the house etc which had been left whilst feeling off colour. I’ve still got a stiff neck (I’m a pain in the neck) but it’s easing by moving about.

I’m off to the first art session of the year today, taking painted New Year cards as I missed seeing everyone before Christmas.

DD is driving up from the south today and is aware of the weather. I hope her journey is trouble free. After art, I will stock up on some groceries and later cook the beef casserole I prepared yesterday.

Last night I watched Edith Evans in a film from 1949, Queen of Spades recommended by my sister, excellent.

Thoughts to Susan56 FGTs and all🌺

Susan56 I'm sorry to hear about your mum. I hope it's just a blip. We had a number of those calls about mum and she always rallied.

Susan56 Fri 09-Jan-26 08:34:32

Thank you Jax and Grandmabatty. Its a rollercoaster and very mixed emotions all round😢

Susan56 Fri 09-Jan-26 08:36:17

Gingster Fri 09-Jan-26 08:40:00

Good morning all.
Wet and a little breezy here but nothing to shout about, here in Essex.

Yesterday I re-joined our bowls group and enjoyed seeing them all again. Came home and got down to some much needed housework.

We won’t meet our Friday pals today, so a day at home, pottering.

I hope everyone is safe whilst the storm continues across the country.🙏.

Take care 💨💨🌨️

Good morning all. A dip down to -2 in Glasgow this morning with a wintry mix of sleet in the afternoon.

Plan for today is a rummage in TKMaxx with my cousin who is on the hunt for cushions and I will have a nosy around after which, coffee and cake somewhere.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant, settled day.

monk08 Fri 09-Jan-26 08:58:09

Good morning all from a snowy Black country.
Looks quite pretty out while it's still fresh and not been walked on.
Have sorted my wellies out to take myself to local shops but our other plans to visit a friend will change as we will be unable to get car out of garage.
Will now get a cuppa and catch up with everybody's happenings.
Have the best day you can everyone take care and stay safe out there☀️

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 1°C.

I am shocked at the strength and ferocity of the storm, those poor people affected by it. 😪

GM, you sound so upbeat this morning.♥️

We were expecting snow yesterday, which never happened.
DS phoned us to bring Babydoll home earlier yesterday, because it was snowing, at their home. There was no snow here, but fifteen minutes into our journey, the streets were covered in snow. It was quite strange, as if someone had drawn a line on the weather map.

Fortunately, DH suggested a visit to the garden centre after checking the weather forecast many times It is situated beside the River Clyde and it was even colder there, than at home.
This extreme cold is playing havoc with my joints, especially my left hand, which despite my compression glove or splint is excruciatingly painful and useless. Think raging toothache.

Babydoll had a ball in the garden centre. As soon as she got there, she dragged us to see the fish, insisting we buy her a very large carp.🤣
The customers in the almost empty café were entertained by her impersonation of Spiderman, her latest obsession. She had two spiderman soft toys with her and I was anxious the whole time, that she would lose them and there would literally be tears at bedtime.

We picked up a fair number of Christmas decorations, reduced by 70%. Great joy! I found some expensive glass baubles at a fraction of the price.
The number of decorations for the tacky tree, (my adult children's 😄) with Dollie's name on it, outweigh the number with Babydoll's, so the balance needed redressed.

You may remember our multi society crib, where every year, our children hide figures in it, relating to their lives. DH and J had decided to emulate them and put in our own figure next year.
We found it. A figure of Darth Vader (they are Star Wars fans, as is Babydoll)
We had to secrete it in the trolley, or she would have given the game away. She cannot keep a secret.😄

We were home in time for lunch and a rest. BabyD fell asleep on DH's comfortable stomach 😍. Don't tell her parents.
The only way to waken her was to tell her we would bake.
She loves to bake and can tell you all the ingredients required for making a cake.
As usual, we had to make indiviual mini ones for mummy, daddy, nana and granddad. The other nana makes wedding cakes and I am always worried I will not meet the gold standard.😉
The result, a lemon cake with coconut lemon icing, was delicious. (I am not one to boast.🤣).
I couldn't be bother getting the Kitchen Aid out and faffing, so threw all the ingredients in the Magimax. It was ready in minutes. #Lazybaker.

Today, I will do my usual foray to M&S foodhall. Their bread keeps so much longer.
Other than bread and milk, I don't need much, except a few baking items.
BabyDoll was quite concerned yesterday, when I finished the flour, not like me at all.
She insisted that Papa write it down, in case I forgot. 🤣

Grannygravy, I am reciprocating your virtual hug. You never complain, but just get on with it.😘
DH was advising me yesterday, that I was so lucky to still be alive, despite so many close shaves. I was feeling a bit fed up! 😄
I explained that unless you have experienced chronic asthma and a life threatening attack, you have no conception, what it is like to live with it. It is terrifying.
GG, I hope the devil's potent pills, are starting to do their black magic.💕

I wish you all a pleasant day and stay safe, all those affected by the storm.

As always, my best wishes for all the mountaineers.

Good morning from a snowy Black Country, where it snowed overnight, but now seems to be melting.

At least our walk yesterday was snow, ice and rain free. Then a coffee and chat in the Park Cafe.

No real plans today, but I want to walk into town if possible as I have 2 birthday cards to buy for birthdays this month.

Then pop round to see my friend who made it back from Madeira a day late on Tuesday. Monday flight was cancelled there due to high winds.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

I hope that marzipan is ok down in Cornwall, horrifically strong winds quite near where she lives.

Good Morning from a sunny and warm Madeira. It’s our penultimate day today then tomorrow fly home to the freezing cold.

It’s been a nice holiday the weather was stormy for the first few days but we have a full sea view and a huge balcony so could still sit out without getting wet. I had a birthday a few days ago but my husband was in bed all day with a bad IBS flare up and felt so poorly so I relaxed around the pool and in the spa alone but listened to a lot of my audiobook so lots of relaxation. He felt so sorry he couldn’t enjoy my birthday with me. It was awful to see him ill. We are having our second day on the open topped bus today and enjoying our final day though tomorrow we have a late flight so we have most of tomorrow too.

Thinking about Susan I really hope you get to your mum to find she has rallied again. I have an elderly mum and it’s such a worry sometimes. 💐
Thoughts to everyone affected by the storm today. 💐
Hoping today brings moments of joy in your day. 🌺

A late good morning Mick and everyone.
We had a fair covering of snow yesterday evening. It fell suddenly, following a day of rain.
I have postponed my coffee in town with a friend.
I'm expecting a delivery from John Lewis today. A knitted throw for the guest bedroom.
Yesterday I took delivery of a heated throw. I was glad of it during the evening, kept me cosy.

After all my careful preparation awoke to a calm sky and no snow or wind, so we have been very lucky and my girl guiding was for nothing. My sympathy is with everyone trying to get about in the areas where the weather has been more forceful and I hope travel plans work successfully for those on the move.

Not much to report though I am going to a bridge lesson this afternoon, certain I have forgotten what little I knew. Learning new things in one’s eighties is much harder than expected! Thoughts with everyone having an anxious time.

Hello from crisp, icy Perthshire. Waiting on the grips for my shoes to arrive so I can get out and enjoy it.
Hoping all is well with everyone on the Isles of Scilly and in the South West.
